Jets might start a getting good. We are at the level where our fans are getting funny enough that the universe could reward us. I like Sam but this is funny

That doesn’t preclude them from drafting a QB high, but I don’t think I burn a high pick on acquiring Darnold just to turn around and draft another guy.

So funny that Rhule, Sam, and Robby Anderson could have all been together in NY

Great trade for the Jets. Hopefully they can do with this new QB what they couldn't with Darnold.

The new regime is off to a good start.

I don’t like this trade for Carolina. If Darnold turns out to be a good QB, then it’s a good trade, but what are the odds that happens?

I am also particularly surprised they parted with a two plus given that Darnold’s rookie scale contract ends after this year, and Carolina has to decide whether to trigger his fifth year option THIS offseason. This means have to decide whether to give him a fully guaranteed salary in excess of 18M for 2022 within weeks. If they trigger the option and Darnold blossoms, then it’s fine. If they trigger it and he has a mediocre (or worse) year, then his contract is eating up almost ten percent of their 2022 cap and he is untradeable at that salary. If they don’t trigger it and he blossoms, then they’re gonna have to franchise him or hand him a large extension, all on the strength of one good year. I hate where this leaves Carolina strategically. It may work out, but it seems far more likely that this investment blows up in their face.

Conversely, this is a great trade for the Jets. The Darnold pick and development was a total disaster, but they recouped good value for a sunk cost even though everyone knew Darnold wasn’t in their plans and he hasn’t shown he is a good NFL player.

Panthers parted with next year’s two. Seems the discourse isn’t discounting like it should be. Total trade works out to ~ 43rd pick this year for Sam.

By making this deal, Carolina is committing to Darnold for 2 years. They currently have about $16m in cap space, so they could try to rework Darnold's deal and more evenly distirbute the $22m he's due the next two season.

Teddy has a $23m cap hit this season, so a trade is unlikely. And cutting him before June 1 only saves $3m. Cutting Bridgewater before next season saves $20m on the cap.

So the plan must be to roll into this season wit a Bridgewater-Darnold competition with an eye on trying to develop Darnold as much as possible. If Darnold can be de-Jets-ified and made into a quality QB, great deal. If not, he's a the bridge QB in 2022 while the Panthers continue to explore the market.

Committing to Darnold for what? Like he's on the roster, this year and probably next, but I wouldn't write him in ink to be the starter or anything. They made a bigger commitment to Bridgewater just a year ago and are already moving on.

This is where the league is. The QB has become so important, a viable strategy is to churn until you find your guy. The alternative to not picking up the extension is ending up like the Bears and getting stuck with 2 retreads that you know aren’t a long term solution. If Darnold is bad, then they bring in competition next season via the draft, free agency, or promoting a later round QB pick from this season.

I agree. And I wouldn't even rule out Carolina taking a QB at 8 if someone does wind up being available. They aren't banking on it, but that doesn't mean they won't consider it.

Or, it's BS

The guy hasn't clarified which first-round pick was involved and no one else has this report.

"Earlier this offseason" clearly implies this was before the SF trade up from 12 to 3. So it seems pretty obvious the offer was Darnold + 23 for 12 (if the rumor is actually true)

The tweet is confusing. Saying the Jets were concerned with WIlson's shoulder but are now confident he'll "go" #2. Weird to say "go" there when referring to the Jets thought process. Why not say "comfortable in taking him at 2"?

Not to mention the "what might have been" in a tweet that's talking about the 2nd pick... like, is this guy lamenting the fact that the Jets kept #2?

I can’t remember the source so maybe luckiestman can confirm or deny this, but it seems that ZW’s mom is pretty active on social media, to the point where ZW asked her to stop. If that’s the case, all the parts are in place for an epic disaster unfolding. ZW gets off to a slow start. Twitter trolls start in on him being a bust. Mama swoops in to rescue her baby boy from the bad internet people and boost her own signal.

More than stop, ZW allegedly offered to pay her to get off Instagram. I do not blame him one bit - the last thing the Jets need is one more distraction at the QB position.
Speaking of which, Wilson's contract still isn't done, so he didn't report to camp today. The first practice is tomorrow. I SUSPECT this is mostly a creation of drama by writers and the deal will be done tonight, but we shall see. Also, TIL that the Jets' QB room as currently situated has zero QBs who've thrown a pass in the NFL. Bold strategy, Cotton.

Wilson's latest post has him on a plane. That Cali weather post is worthless in terms of whether or not Wilson will sign tonight.

Note, he will sign tonight.

Zach Wilson did not practice today and is the last remaining unsigned first-round pick.

I'm going to let you in on a little fact. I have never made an over/under bet for a team in the NFL. But this year, I have laid a very, very large stack on the Jets over. I love Saleh and I think he can bring a winning culture to this team of formerly disreputable morons. Gase is really the devil. Getting rid of him is going to bring massive changes.

So I believe. I am a Jet fan.

Their over under is enticing on its face, though they really lack talent.
