Jeter & Jeb Bush group win auction to buy Marlins.

A group led by former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter has won the auction for the Miami Marlins baseball team, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.

The person requested anonymity because the sale contract hasn’t been signed. The person declined to say how much the group paid for the team, which is owned by New York art dealer Jeff Loria. The person also wouldn’t name the group’s other investors, though Bush’s network of donors to his unsuccessful presidential campaign was vast.

This is strangely enjoyable. So much for Yankees fans claiming Jeter as their exclusive property for eternity.

Derek Jeter, Mr. Marlins.

From an actual ownership stance, it's got to be a small stake. Jeter is rich, but not "majority stake in a $1.3 billion purchase" rich.

Management is another matter. My guess is that he can have a significant, even leading role if he wants it.

where I was last at
Jeb abd Derek probably have a 3rd partner with dough, probably a hedge fund guy

I would think the guy who puts up the dough is the majority owner.

Jeb gets to be the politician/owner guy who's not a hedge fund guy

Jete's gets the role of "Magic" Johnson, and will smile a lot and get richer.

Chric Rock:

Shaq is rich; the white man that signs his check is wealthy. Here you go Shaq, go buy yourself a bouncing car. Bling-Bling . . . . I ain’t talking bout Oprah, I’m talking about Bill Gates. OK!. If Bill Gates woke up tomorrow with Oprah’s money, he would jump out a …window. I’m not talking about rich, I’m talking about wealthy—Chris Rock
