Steve Lyons or Dennis Eckersley will work the games Remy does not.

Steve Lyons and Dennis Eckersley will also serve as analysts, occasionally joining O'Brien and Remy in a three-man booth.

More from NESN - Dennis Eckersley and Steve Lyons will join Remy and Dave O'Brien in a 3-man booth for a "significant" number of games #wcvb

If I had to guess, it will be Eck at home (or on short trips, giving his dislike for travel) and Lyons on the road

when was the last time that NESN tried a 3 man booth for the whole game?

No idea what NESN sees in Lyons.  I hope this isnt an extended tryout for when Remy is done.

A three man booth with Eck sounds pretty good, though.

I saw SNY's postgame crew for the Mets game last night had Bobby Valentine.

TV execs seem to be out of touch, all of them.

I was hoping for Eck for 81 home games and someone else from outside the current NESN lineup for 81 road games. Oh well.

Lyons is worse on broadcasts than in the studio, and that's quite an indictment.

I don't hate Lyons as much as others, but hope it isn't just a two man booth with him for big games.  The three man booth thing is what I had been hoping for, for a while.
Eck can hopefully loosen up O'Brien a bit and let him have his 20 minute snack breaks.

Lyons is one of these guys who over-analyzes (i.e. bullshits) every second of the game to make it seem like he's smarter than he really is or that he's earning his paycheck. I usually listen to music anyway but the idea of him calling Red Sox games for the next decade is brutal.

I don't know if it's over analysis per se...I think he just can't shut up.

Regardless, I'm glad we'll get more Eck.

Apparently a big part of the announcer gig is schmoozing with sponsors/potential sponsors, and guys like Harold Reynolds and Steve Lyons grade high in those areas?

Honestly I don't get the hate for Lyons. I think he's really good, and considering the stable of potential contenders second only to Eck for color. To me, Lyons is everything that Remy isn't in term of analysis. He's got the perspective of a former player but a guy who also isn't afraid to be critical, either of players or the team generally. And he doesn't wait to be prodded by DO to offer commentary or analysis. Sure, he doesn't have Remy's "personality." But if all we cared about was personality and yucks, Orsillo would still be here. To each his own, but I really enjoyed listening to Lyons. In fact when he and Eck were on post-game, I would keep it on NESN after the game. Rice or Wake, not so much.

Full disclosure: I am not related to Steve Lyons.

Lyons has the stench of national broadcaster on him. Pointing out the obvious with the air of describing nuclear physics to 5th graders. Basically trying too hard to be insightful and ending up saying really stupid things (like David mentions) because he thinks he's speaking to a baseball ignorant audience.
