He's no Time Lord but then who is? He's not a turnstile and can use his quickness to recover quickly.

Thibs has been misusing him for 3 years, refusing to play Obi alongside Randle for any meaningful minutes.

I'm a Dayton grad and would love for him to don the Green.
He's a league average player on defense and offense. Trash is unfair, but he's definitely a JAG.

I was being silly man.

His defense stinks, it's why he doesn't play much.

I haven't seen any details like that...the recent language that game out from the CBA made it seem harder (minutes requirements), not softer. Possibly Lowe had it reported wrong?
It came from ESPN’s Bobby Marks, who seemed to know what he was talking about, but we’ll have to wait for the terms sheet, I guess.

I have no way to really rationalize it, but I've grown to enjoy games where star players are inefficient, but they keep shooting anyway because they know their team needs them to score to have a chance at winning. Jaylen didn't have his shot tonight but he knew with Tatum out he needed to stay aggressive and he ultimately got it done.

I’m similarly fond of Jaylen in the 4th in game 6 against GSW when he’d had the same realization.

Agree, it's a fun challenge to watch, more interesting in some ways than watching a guy just be on a total heater.

Toronto's length robbed JB of a couple of layups. Can't believe the Raptors aren't better then .500

I came away from last night like I have all season.
1. Brogdon is that 3rd scorer/ball handler this team desperately needed in the playoffs last season
2. Derrick White is fukn solid. Back-to-back 40 min/gms. 80 games played so far.

Brogdan could probably score 25 ppg in this NBA if he absolutely had to. You could tell over the last two games when the respective J's have each sat a game that he has that in him to take more shots and be a bigger focus point on the offense.

Something he said before the season started was interesting; that in Indiana he was asked to be a star on the team and just physically, his body couldn't handle that grind night-in-and-night-out. The big question for him was health and a reduced role for him in Boston would be better for him to stay healthy for an entire season. That has played out, and he's still very capable of scoring a lot of points if they need him to.

I know that the voters are supposed to consider the 65-game thing, but it is going to draw attention of some voters to games sat. There's a lot of top players who took a ton of time off this year. And as lovegtm noted, a lot of them are on struggling/borderline teams (Kawhi, PG, Steph, LBJ, Dame, AD).

I’d like to see Jaylen have an efficient game tonight, after that awesome stretch post ASB, his TS has been fading quite a bit. 56.5% over his last 10 games, and 52% over his last 5. The three ball especially, he’s 6-33 over the last 5 games.

I doubt any starters play Sunday, so I hope Jaylen goes like 5-8 from three tonight, and goes into the playoffs feeling good about his shot.

Hollinger leaves JB off his all NBA ballot

The other player worth talking about here is Jaylen Brown, just because I’ve seen a lot of mentions for him in one of these spots, and he has a supermax riding on it. Frankly … I don’t see it.

Brown is the second-best player on a team that might win the championship; yet, by virtually any metric you would want to choose, his performance falls well short of the players under consideration above. Brown has been a high-scoring two-way wing for a great team, but he’s also shot inconsistently (33.5 percent from 3, 76.5 percent from the line), been relatively turnover-prone for a go-to option and has a weirdly low free-throw rate for an attacking player. I’m nit-picking, obviously, but these distinctions matter when you’re talking about the top 15 players in the league. I don’t think he’s been any better than Siakam or Randle on a per-minute basis, for instance, and those two stacked up a lot more minutes without making the cut for me.

Hollinger picks (he doesn't have a vote).

My position quibbles:
Luka Doncic, SF? Because of his height?
Jayson Tatum, SG? clearly didn't watch Boston start Smart/White all season
Anthony Davis, PF? Thomas Bryant started 25 games at Center, but AD has been their Center for 54 games

Load management poster boy, Kawhi Leonard, 50 games? If you're going to select a lifetime achievement award player, may as well go with the King (Bron has played more games, with legit injuries) or KD who has suited up for 47 games.

All-NBA First Team
PG: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City
SG: Jayson Tatum, Boston
SF: Luka Doncic, Dallas
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee
C: Joel Embiid, Philadelphia

All-NBA Second Team
PG: Dame Lillard, Portland
SG: Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland
SF: Jimmy Butler, Miami
PF: Anthony Davis, L.A. Lakers
C: Nikola Jokić, Denver

All-NBA Third Team
PG: Steph Curry, Golden State
PG: De’Aaron Fox, Sacramento
SF: Kawhi Leonard, LAC
PF: Lauri Markkanen, Utah
C: Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento

Hollingers opinion has some weight behind it. Hopefully he's in the minority.
I’m not so sure about that. Wast he heavily campaigning for Rudy Gobert to win the MVP 2 years ago? I think people respect him for everything he’s done but he’s also kind of a punching bag.

Anyways, Hollinger is a slave to the numbers (to a comical degree) so it’s not a shock that he doesn’t have Jaylen on there. I expect other voters, who don’t use advanced stats as the be all end all, won’t share his vote

EDIT: I guess Hollinger doesn’t have a vote. And he probably doesn’t deserve one of those are his positional choices (referring to @benhogan’s post)

"advanced"....the guy takes PER and TS and calls it a day, for the most part.

I don't blame guys for putting a lot of weight on TS, but PER is garbage. And Doncic at forward alone should disqualify a guy from water cooler talk let alone a national platform or vote. Like if I were waiting in line somewhere and talking hoops with a stranger and he mentioned how much he liked Luka, Dallas forward, I'd pretend that I got a phone call.

The Ringer's Michael Pina has Jaylen as second team All NBA at F on his official ballot.
Good writeups.

I agree with most of his takes and think he nailed all NBA

I would go Markkanen over SGA for most improved though. I know making the leap to superstar is more difficult, but Markkanen was pretty much a throw in in the Mitchell trade and he turned himself into a borderline all NBA guy.

I also would go White over Caruso for first team all defense. Gap in number of minutes is too large to ignore.

Not only that but putting Tatum at SG? Like in what universe is Jayson Tatum a shooting guard?
It seems like the kind of thing you do to get attention or try to prove you’re smarter than everyone….both of which are par for the course for Hollinger

I literally stopped ready the article when I saw Tatum as the first team SG and Luka as the first team SF. That one issue was enough to discredit anything else in the article. That's a mic drop level demonstration of incompetence.

This really sounds like a cover story, but who knows.
Ha, I was just coming to post the same thing. It sounds implausible but I suppose it could be true. Still, it reminds me of those true crime stories where the killer is trying to explain why he's got scratches all over his face and arms and mumbles something about the cat. In any event, it's JB's personal life, and whatever happened, it's up to him how much he wants to disclose.

Maybe it happened when he was washing his truck. #jeffkent

Edit: Just read that Jaylen said he was watering plants. As funny as this shit sounds it is not funny that it’s on his shooting hand if he’s not ready for next weekend or compromised by the injury.

Irving Fryar, old Patriots WR, came to mind to me right away: 'Irving is at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston) right at the moment,'' Sullivan said. ''This morning, he was putting a kitchen knife back in the drawer. It slipped and cut his hand. ''He has a torn tendon in his right little finger."

Cs making a push for Jaylen as forward. I knew JB was eighth in the league in scoring average but hadn't noticed he was third from the forward position.

A key point was at the end of this article. Averaging an efficient 26 ppg besides a lead scorer isn’t an easy task, especially one at a similar position . Only five other duos have both averaged 26+ ppg in a full season, Harden-Westbrook, Shaq-Kobe 2x, Bird-McHale, English-Vanderweghe 2x, West-Baylor 3x.

That is only nine other times in 76 NBA seasons.

Basketball Reference has Jaylen as 9th in scoring. But, yes, behind only Giannis and Tatum as a forward (and B-Ref lists him as "SF").

As a random sidenote I just noticed, Mikal Bridges, assuming he starts today, will set the rare feat of starting 83 games this season.

Finishing with 56-57 wins and the best net rating should help him here: it feels better to give two guys on the same team All-NBA when that clearly translated into team success.

I also think the mask will help, almost mnemonically. "Did Jaylen Brown have a good year? Oh yeah, I remember he was already having a good year, and then he put on the mask and finished strong post-ASB."

If JB can average 26 ppg on a squad with a 30 ppg scorer, what could he do as an empty stat gathering leading man on a scrub team? Hopefully, we never find out.
