Hayward will be 30 next summer, and 31 reaching UFA if he opts in. It's remotely possible he could take the Al Horford route and look for a longer term deal at lower AAV than the max. A lot depends obviously on the season he has and the situation with the cap next summer. I'd say 80% chance he opts in and forgoes free agency for a year, but things can change.

If he has a good year, very high chance he opts out imo.

Agree with the sentiment, but wonder what makes GH's year "good." From preseason stats, JT is going to have the most shots per game - 21.6 per 36 minutes in the preseason - and JB was second out of the starters (14.0 per 36). Brad is playing JB and JT a lot together and giving them the star rotations: breaks at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters: https://www.celticsblog.com/2019/10/18/20918667/gordon-hayward-primary-ballhandler-jayson-tatum-jaylen-brown-play-together-boston-celtics-rotation/.

Kemba will certainly be shooting more than the 12.9/36 that he shot in the preseason.

So I wonder how many shots will be left for GH.

I think GH will be handling the ball a lot so his assists should be at or over his career high (5.19 per game). But if he's averaging 12 ppg and 6 apg, I wonder how the market views him.

I think if the team is winning and he's clearly a big part of it, the market will price that pretty accurately.

The NBA has come a long way from the "OMG this guy is a 20 point scorer!!!" days. Al Horford got 2 max/near max contracts in his 30s while putting up 15/7, 15/7, 14/7, 13/7, 13/7. Draymond Green has been maxed multiple times, and no one blinks an eye (nor should they).

Replacement level - you are saying Jaylen Brown last year was replacement level?!

Heild signs for less than $100 mil, that's gotta set the market on Jaylen bit, right?
I would think so. In a world where everything is equal. I'd take Hield over Brown but I'm guessing that's an unpopular opinion on this board. Hield is 4 years older too though and more of a finished product.

It definitely the Celtics a lot and resets the market somewhat. Also shows that players are probably taking the China thing seriously. The thing is, as others noted, Jaylen has much more of a chance to go to another level, just because of age, so he may see this as irrelevant.
This is why I'd rather they just wait to sign him. This is a huge year for Jaylen Brown. By the end of the season, you should have a pretty good idea of what you have.

I'm also on board with trading him for Myles Turner or Sabonis too. Turner would be the defensive anchor for many years to come while I think Sabonis is a very underrated passer and will be respectable from 3 this year or next.

I get why people like Jaylen though. He's a freak athlete and a hard worker.

deep inside Guido territory
With the rookie extension deadline looming on Monday at 5 p.m., the Celtics are still in the midst of negotiations with Jaylen Brown about a potential new deal. Brown's newly hired agent Jason Glushon was at the Auerbach Center at the conclusion of practice on Monday as the 23-year-old swingman worked out on the floor after the session. Danny Ainge and Mike Zarren were also in the building, setting the stage for a final negotiation push ahead of the Monday deadline. If Brown does not reach an extension now, he will hit the restricted free agent market on July 1st.

I'm a bit surprised, as it seems like anyone with any ability at all was getting the max. Hield's production is definitely superior to Brown's, although I get the age difference. Didn't Siakam also get a max? Does anyone have a list of the players from that class that have signed and haven't signed?

I'm a JB fan. The only real reason I'd like him to sign now is just so that he can focus on winning, and not have to think about that contract and the need to put up numbers this season. I know he gives the impression of being a mature person, but the playing for a contract thing would be in anyone's head, no matter how mature you are.

Siakam: 4 year max
Simmons: 5 year almost max with incentives
Murray: 5 year max
Hield: 4/86-106

The age difference with Hield vs Jaylen/Simmons/Murray isn't a minor thing: it's an "other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" type thing. Obviously Siakam is also old, but he had less basketball playing experience and is also better than Hield.

I like Murray and would have gave him the max too but Denver pulled the trigger on that signing way too early.

Yeah, if your plan all along is to max the guy, and he's not a clear, 100%, no-doubter (Murray isn't imo), then you wait until next summer and offer him the 5-year then.

I'm pretty sure waiting would have given them a bit of money to work with in 19/20 FA too. I"m not sure how all that works though. Millsap (30 mil), Mason Plumlee (14 mil) are off the books and I could see Jerami Grant (9.3mil) opting out of his contract too. They already exercised Porter (3.5) for 2020/21 too. Hernangomez (3.3) could also potentially come off the books. Beasley and Morris too.

It was stupid. They could have went into next season with only Jokic, Harris and Barton on guaranteed contracts at roughly $58 mil. Like I said though, I'm not sure how it all works with holds and everything and I'm sure they want to keep/try to keep Beasley and Morris. Probably even Hernangomez.

Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has agreed to a four-year, $115M million contract extension, agent Jason Glushon tells ESPN.

I like Jaylen a lot and would've been thrilled at 4/80, but that is a huge number. Since it's from the agent the guaranteed number is likely smaller and 115 is with incentives, but fuck me.

Edit: Whoops, I see the new thread on it now.
