Jaylen Brown continues to solidify his hold as my favorite current Celtic. He’s probably not the team’s best player, it with Mookie gone, he could be the guy the city just galls in love with.

Jaylen is awesome. Such a great character and the skills are catching up to his character as well. Rooting for guys like him is what makes sports fun for me.

Meanwhile, probably worth a separate thread but god forbid a guy like MJ step up and join in stuff like this. All we have are athletes who post some thoughts and prayers on twitter but don’t do much else. Guys like Jaylen who walk the walk are too few and far between.

Just imagine if you’d have guys with greater visibility and following like MJ leading the charge as well. LeBron, to his credit, seems to be more active on this front. But I really wish MJ would step up for once here. When he talks, people listen, as we just saw with that documentary. This goes the same for famous white athletes as well.
This was MJ's response.

Good to see MJ have a voice on this. I respect that he has not wanted to be a political person, but one does wonder if he’s reached the point where he needs to be clear where he stands. Much like Mark Zuckerberg, but that’s for a different forum....

Do any of the big box stores that are open currently carry Jaylen Brown jerseys? I am overdue for one.
I have high standards for the pro jerseys I wear. I've had a Russell, Bird, KG, and a Brady. I've got only one current Celtic, Jaylen Brown.

I'm so damn proud of Jaylen Brown. Is there anyone else in US team sports who has the sport cred and off the field Renaissance man cred of JB?

Bronson Arroyo? Marty Bennett? Serena Williams?

Justin Tucker is an opera singer and can sing in 7 languages. There's this guy.

Would make a fun thread all on its own.

Brown thoroughly out-played Siakam, particularly defending him. He also is starting to make more passing reads and be comfortable as a 1b ball-handler. The dude's ceiling is so freaking high.

He has also played with the highest consistent motor since the games started back up. He's all over the floor on both ends, even in the games when a lot of other guys were clearly not fully engaged.

He's still a work in progress in many ways, which is really encouraging to me. The mistakes are fewer, decisions are better, shot is better, confidence is up, and explosiveness is in full view of everyone. And there seems to still be a decent amount of upside. I'm stoked.

I've stopped trying to project a hypothetical upside for Jaylen. Do I think he can be a primary ballhandling option/initiator of the offense in the half court? No, not really. But would I be totally surprised if he hits his age 25 season and his passing and awareness have leveled up to that point? Again, not really. His ball-handling, strength, finishing skills, body control, etc etc etc have improved so much that I'm just at the point of sitting back and waiting for what's next (while enjoying the present immensely, of course).

And just because it's fun to look at, here is Jimmy Butler's age 23 season: 8.6 points and 4 rebounds in 26 mpg.

His shot was no good today, but he did everything else pretty well. Like with Tatum, it's great that he doesn't need to go for 20 to be valuable.

Meanwhile, JB with the Remedy is sitting at 20.3/6.4/2.1/1.1/0.4, at 38.2/54.3/72.4, and his improvement in ball-handling, and finishing, particularly with the left, has been a revelation that has made him an dangerous weapon when paired with his first step. Also a great, versatile defender.
Cross posting from the Tatum thread.

Brown has been a joy to watch in the bubble. Although he had a poor shooting performance yesterday the things that have most impressed me are his court vision, decision making and passing. I am hopeful that he can continue to build in those areas and would expect his assist rates to increase going forward. His defense and rebounding has also been excellent. He is a continuously improving complete package.

By my informal calculations, JB shooting 74.3% from the FT line in the bubble, which includes going 12-12 in the first two playoff games.

Thought crossed my mind tonight - wonder how many GMs might have passed on Tatum because they had just picked a wing #3 the year before? I can think of one team that passed on a wing because they thought they already had a franchise wing . . . .

Great sequence but I could really do without an unnecessary 360 jam. Those are ticking time bombs for knees.
Agree, but if you watch Jaylen in general, he does a good job landing under control when he goes up. I think he earned himself one there.

Since the bubble started, the chemistry between JB and JT has been considerably better. (Not that it was bad before).

I have rooted for a lot of great Boston athletes in my life. I will never forget Pedro's appointment watching starts. Manny and Ortiz back to back. Tom Brady, nuf said. Paul Pierce and KG! Protect the Civic! Even Isaiah Thomas and Brad Stevens willing me back to the Celtics. Through all that, I think I am proudest to call myself a fan of the team that employs Jalen Brown.

This dude is going to be a Senator someday. I’d follow him anywhere.
Hes awesome. I love his mantra (FCHWPO) and the speech he gave at Harvard was fantastic. Not to mention driving 16 hours and organizing a peaceful protest.
Not just my favorite basketball player, my favorite athlete

Really glad he is on the Celtics. I don’t expect athletes on the teams I root for to be positive role models but it sure as hell makes me happy when they are.
