Not quite getting part of it, or maybe not at all. Shirt in roof is buy a Jaylen jersey and frame it, but don't you hang it on a wall? Garbage bum horse I totally get. :redwine:

My youngest son went to Cal and still follows Cal sports. When the Celtics drafted Jaylen so way high, he asked me why and I said darned if I know. I guess we know now.

The thing that makes me most confident right now that the Celtics will pull through, if and when they face some adversity in these finals, is Jaylen's mentality.

The dude is a killer on a mission right now, and he's done a great job of focusing the team in key moments and then raising his own energy.

This Jaylen-led team feels a lot nastier and more resilient than the old Smart-led teams.

For most of the game, I want Tatum driving the offense and doing his thing. Whenever Boston needs a bucket I want the ball in Jaylen's hands. He is so locked in right now and has a physical advantage over everyone on the court.

A sneaky thing that we don't talk about much is just his ability to elevate, too. I went to game 2 against Indiana sitting floor-level, and there was this one rebound that Brown clearly wanted and I couldn't believe my eyes when he jumped from a standstill and got higher than any human being should be able to. It was the kind of thing that just doesn't come through from an elevated vantage point watching a game on TV. Anyway, we see Brown do this on jumpers sometimes, and it not only gets him above defenders but we've also seen him use it to hang in the air and wait for a hand in his way to go away. I prefer to see Jaylen elevate so much more than I like seeing Tatum fade away, and have much more confidence in Jaylen making the shot.

The only issue with going to Jaylen when we really need a bucket is whatever the hell is going on with him at the line.

Alternatively, we might never have gotten Al back or kept the assets that ultimately got us Brogdon --> Jrue if we had instead held onto IT4, instead of trading him fractionally before his expiration date as we did.

(I realize you're praising Brown moreso than slagging the Kyrie deal, but I think there's an argument even retrospectively that that was the right move for Danny to make. To take the other side of it, you'd have to argue that Ainge definitely would have picked better at #8 in 2018 than what Cleveland did with Collin Sexton - like taken Mikal Bridges or SGA or something - and while we did brilliantly with #27 that draft by getting TimeLord, there were a LOT of duds picked in the top half of that draft.)

That's a great point. Maybe I should say that I want him to have the ball when we need to end an opposing team's run, in which case slowing things down and making 1/2 FTs still accomplishes the goal. Or at the end of quarters, him missing a FT isn't a big deal. But yeah, I don't want him on the line in the late 4th with the game on the line.

Hmmmm. Well, more than anything, I was expressing annoyance about Kyrie putting some stupid ass ideas into Jaylen’s head and hooking him up with Kanye. But you make an interesting case… I really like Jrue, and I of course really, really like Horford…

It was well-called.

I'm not that surprised that Jaylen blossomed in Marcus's absence. There was definitely a big brother/little brother thing going on between the two, perhaps not always wanted. And Jaylen has always displayed leadership skills. But what we're seeing from Jaylen a significant step up in the boss department.

As I said up-thread, Jaylen's mentality is what gives me the most confidence that the Celtics can weather storms. This was as stormy as it gets, and that dude is a motherfucker.

I think it still depends on Game 4. Tatum and Brown both had big games tonight, and Brown of course had the big Game 1. If they are similar in Game 4, it’s Brown, but if Tatum has a huge game, could be a toss up

Tatum had a good box score tonight. He played a very good game for a little more than 3 quarters.

however, actually watching the game, I really don’t think it was that close in terms of impact. Whenever they needed a play. brown was the one who made it (other than the play where Tatum caught the errant White pass and dunked it)

I agree, and I didn’t love Tatum’s shot selection. Brown is in the driver’s seat for sure, just saying if we see Tatum clinch it for them on Friday it could be close.

Jaylen definitely the favorite right now, IMO.

It’s pretty fickle though, just to give an idea, Tatum was -2000 to win ECFMVP at halftime of game 4 lol.

I've watched this multiple times now just focusing on Luka. It would show more integrity if he didn't make any pretense of playing defense as Brown goes by him... but instead he gives this slight flap of his arms like a chicken.

Seriously. Was posted in another thread but they scored or assisted on 36/38 made buckets for celts. One guy is leading the team that is 15-2 in the playoffs in points/rebounds/assists (and a solid asst/to ratio)...while the other won the ECF MVP and the odds on favorite for finals MVP. A joy to watch indeed.
