Another one of my binkies and a player you won't find on any lists... yet. He'll probably be on some deeper lists later this season, or maybe he's already on some I'm not aware of. I don't see him shooting up the rankings like Bello, though.

Jaxx has decent bat speed, average power, and is a slow runner. Defensively, he moves well behind the plate but has a lot of work to do. His arm is decent but inaccurate. He probably won't be able to stick at catcher, but if he does, he should hit well for the position.

He's off to a hot start this year in Salem and with another few weeks to a month of solid play, could earn himself a promotion to Greenville. This year in 90 PA, he is slashing .314/.456/.514 with 19bb/17k, 5 doubles and 3 HRs albiet on a healthy .373 BAbip. A player having more bb than K is a really good sign that the player is too advanced for the league. He's 23 in July so Greenville might provide more of a challenge. He has no real splits L/R this year either.

In 2019, he had 23bb/34k in 174 PA in Lowell. He hit .216/.314/.345 on a .246 BAbip with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 4 HRs.

Quick update: He now has 21bb/18k in 103 PA. Also hit his 4th HR of the year. .284/.427/.494 on a .317 BAbip. A 20.4% BB rate and 17.5% K rate.

FWIW, his younger brother Jordan Groshans was the 12th overall pick in the 2018 draft. He's currently in AA in the Toronto system.

3/4 with a double and HR #5 yesterday.

.316/.442/.537 for the year in 120 PA. 23bb/20k.

Greenville has 24 year old Kole Cottam at C who is also a prospect (2018 4th round pick) and having a good year. (.250/.377/.417, 106 PA, 16bb/37k) Portland has Ronaldo Hernandez. So Jaxx is a little blocked.

Since the last update: 23 PA, .400/.565/.400, 7bb/5k.

At .327/.462/.518 for the year in 143 PA with 30bb/25k. I don't remember anyone walking as much as him since Kevin Youkilis, who had 73bb/31k in his first 276 PA. (.308/.504/.446).

His current walk rate is at 21.0%. Youks was 26.4%.

On a side note, it's odd how often the sox promote players while they are in a slump. His last 5 games in low A was easily his worst stretch of the year. In 24 PA, he hit .130/.167/.130 with 1bb/9k. Prior to that, he had 30bb/26k in 151 PA.

He finished low A with a .298/.417/.454 line on a .356 BAbip with 31bb/35k, 12 xbh (5 HR) in 175 PA/141 At bats.

Jaxx was 0/4 with 4 strikeouts in his first game last night with Greenville. All 4 strikeouts were swinging. Heh, I've been calling for his promotion all year thinking Salem was too easy for him to due the BB/K ratio but he's been in some type of funk lately. Hopefully he breaks out of it.

Sox prospects now have him listed at 42 in the Sox system. As I mentioned before, his brother Jordan is in the Jays system and is one of the top 40ish prospects in all of MLB. He's a year and a half younger than Jordan and already in AA. He plays 3b/SS while Jaxx plays C/DH. Considering Jaxx comes from a baseball family and his age, he should have (and did) dominate low A. It'll be interesting to see how fast he adjusts to High A. Unless he completely bombs, Jaxx should start next season in Portland at a much more age appropriate level.

Struggling in Greenville to start off.

8 games, 30 PA, .214/.267/.250 with 2bb/7k.

It doesn't help Kole Cottam is mashing, either. Jaxx hasn't gotten steady playing time since the promotion.

Cottam was promoted to AA so that should help Jaxx get regular playing time, anyway.

He's faired better recently and Jaxx is up to .250/.286/.400 in 42 PA at the A+ level.

Had his first HR at the level yesterday, going 2/4 with a HR and a triple.

First 11 games at A+: 39 PA/37 AB, .243/.282/.270, .333 BAbip. 2bb/10k. 1 double
Last 18 games at A+: 70 PA/64 AB, .297/.343/.593, .320 Babip. 4bb/12k. 4 doubles, 3 triples, 3 HR.

For the year at both levels: .291/.381/.467, on a .343 BAbip. 37bb/58k. 13 doubles, 3 triples, 8 HR.
For the year at A+: .282/.324/.485.
For the year at A: .298/.417/.454.

Worth noting he has 6bb/23k in 111 A+ PA, and 31bb/35k in 175 PA at A. Stark difference. Though he's been better of late in that department and an adjustment period should be expected.
