Figured we should get this one going with the season starting in 2 days.

A million players on waivers today. Some notables:

Loui Eriksson and Sven Baertschi (VAN)
Tyler Johnson and Luke Schenn (TB)
Oliver Kylington (CAL)
Matthie Perrault (WPG)

I never got the Milbury hate. Local kid. Serviceable defenseman. Lots of holding penalties. Decent coach. Mediocre GM. But he has forgotten more about hockey than we will ever know. I don't care who is in the NBC studio.

#tblightning GM Julien BriseBois said they’d be really close to $81.5 million cap by tomorrow, when start using LTIR. Well, looks like through some Jedi cap maneuvering, Tampa Bay could be $334 shy of $81.5 million, when Boo Nieves contract ($708K) is added.

I looked up his stats and they seem fine. 3 more years is a lot but perhaps the Bruins can get Florida to retain a couple million per year.

If the young guys fall flat over the first month or two, he could fill a Krug role as power play specialist for the Bruins.

Maybe Florida would also take John Moore in such a deal to help fit Yandle under the cap. The trouble is, Yandle’s not good defensively and so it probably would be better to save the cap space for a deadline deal.

It's not so much the cap hit as it is the years left on Yandle. He's 34 years old and is signed for 2 additional season at $6.35 AAV. Maybe if there was retention or Moore going back it'd make some sense but I'll have to dig into Yandle a bit more. He's local and I typically enjoy him on Spittin' Chiclets so he's got that going for him.

And Tampa's LTIR comes in at $16.975.000. Gaborik and Nilsson are done but if/when Kucherov returns for the playoffs they'll be playing with a $91 million roster in a league with an $81.5 millin salary cap. I know it's legal, but ugh.

Yandle also has a NMC. If he didn't waive it, the B's wouldn't want to have to protect him in the Seattle expansion draft.

I'm up for some hockey today! First game up is Penguins and Flyers, but I have circled Montreal at Toronto for my first game of the season, with a side of Canucks-Oilers to end the daay.

I know it can't and won't happen, and he took a step back last year, but I've wanted Laine on the Bruins for a while now.

PLD would be such a great fit on this team long term. The bruins don't have the spare assets to get him but a boy can dream.

Evander Kane is filing for bankruptcy with $26.8M in debt.

I put my post in the wrong thread, cut and modified here a bit

More at ESPN

I'm shocked this guy ended up having money troubles, seeing as he posted shit like this back in the day

To be fair, I think it was fairly well known he had gambling issues. Found a more indepth story here

https://www.citynews1130.com/2021/01/12/vancouver-hockey-player-kane-bankruptcy-gambling/
Doesn't look like he's going to have fun for a while, unless he can get help with his gambling addiction

Per today's Globe the NHL is ditching the new pucks over performance issues. One coach said they didn't seem to slide on the ice as well as the old ones. I was wondering when we would get feedback on them.

I listened to a discussion of this on the NHL channel on the drive into work. The debate was whether or not a fine to the team sufficed or should the players be suspended. My contrarian take that nobody asked for: The team did nothing wrong so I don't know what the point of the fine is, and the players share a locker room, bench, ice, bus, and plane, so what is the harm in 4 of them in a room after the game? Yes its against the rules but they are supposed to be in a bubble.

I don't know the full details, but it seems they were in some sort of social situation and weren't masked. It just lists the players, doesn't mention if anyone else was around.

They fine the team because they want the team to be on top of their players and ensuring the protocols are enforced. Plus, the max fine for players is like 3 grand. The players punishment in this situation is they can't practice or play while on the COVID list. The Capitals are supposed to play tomorrow and will probably be without those guys.

Well, Ovechkin's wife has taken this up a notch. From her post, seems the players in question were just hanging out in a hotel room together. That's a no-no from the league. According to the leagues release, the players were unmasked.

There's no sure fire way to minimize the risk entirely, but all the league really asks is the players maintain social distancing and wear masks everywhere when they are off the ice.

Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Orlov and Samsonov are out a minimum of 4 games (Bruins play them in 5!).

Lavi said there was a positive case among Capitals players and then the NHL did contact tracing which led them to this.

The Rangers put Tony DeAngelo and his $4.8 million cap hit on waivers this morning. Something more must have happened behind the scenes with his politics because he's averaged over 20 minutes per game recently.

He has to be absolute clubhouse cancer. Which, as PSK linked to, is not hard to image given his history as a dogshit human being. I could see another team giving him a shot because the talent is obviously there and the NHL, much like the NFL, tends to extend continued opportunities to terrible but talented people, but he may find his way to Russia...I'm sure his beliefs would play fine over there.

EDIT: And TheAthletic reporting DeAngelo got into it with Alex Georgiev...you know, the Georgiev who put MLK on his mask for the bubble, and who has been openly pro-BLM. I guess DeAngelo chose the wrong Russian to run his mouth with.

There is also a rumor in the fight with Georgiev that Kreider stepped in and punched DeAngelo in the face. If true, Kreider just became my favorite player.

I want this to be true so badly. Deangelo is a garbage human so hopefully he ends up playing for Omsk

Shockingly, he's also been harassing his only black teammate, a rookie:

https://www.blueshirtbanter.com/2021/1/31/22259125/report-deangelo-georgiev-allegedly-had-altercation-following-loss-vs-pittsburgh-new-york-rangers
Furthermore, three separate sources independently confirmed to Blueshirt Banter that there was concern at various levels of the organization regarding DeAngelo’s treatment of rookie defenseman K’Andre Miller. Sources did not wish to go on the record with specific examples but indicated that it was an issue that caught the attention and ire of multiple players in the organization. Additionally, sources say tension has been building up in the locker room prior to the incident on Saturday night.

If that story is true, I'm pretty sure I just won the RMPS real fantasy cup because I have Kreider on my team.

Who are the possible partners for a trade? The dude is an asshole - and a shitty defender - but 53 points is 53 points.
