Love the deal for both sides. It's a good challenge trade - hopefully for Johansen and Jones it ends up better than the Kassian/Hodgson challenge trade

I know he's a big part of what's worked in LA the last 5 years, but with the possibility of a sub-60¢ loonie in 2016, that could be a team-killing contract sooner rather than later.

That'd be the third highest AAV in the league behind only Toews and Kane. I love Kopitar's overall game but that seems like an overpay.

Maybe they overpaid by a million, but Indont think it is egregious. Anaheim fucked up the center market with the Kesler extension. Kicks in next year, Kesler's age 32 season, @ $6.875 million, and Kesler sucks.

I don't think there's any way they'll be able to re-sign Looch in that case. Not sure what his asking price will be, but likely in the range of $7million/yr?

Have the economics in the NHL changed so much in the last few years that I shouldn't think $10M/yr for ANY player is nuts?!

CHI and the ducks screwed up contracts for everyone. There was no chance in hell that Kopitar was getting way less than Toews . As a kings fan I think it's a slight but neseccary overpay. If we didn't pay him he sure as hell would have gotten a similar contract on the open market.

Yeah that looks like an overpay to me, but overpaying $1-1.5m for elite talent is OK. Definitely agree that Kesler's contract is worse.

I get that the NHL ASG is a joke to begin with but the idiotic fan campaign to get John Scott there, which has succeeded, is beyond ridiculous.
There has to be a way the NHL can rescind his fan selection. If you want to have some fun and select a 38YO stay at home defenseman I'm fine with that. But rewarding one of the worst NHL players of all time who is simply a heavy weight boxer on skates is ridiculous. He was just demoted by AZ but sounds like they will call him back up before the ASG so he can participate. AZ should do the right thing and keep him down.

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
Who cares. It's an exhibition for the fans, if they want him in or want to make a joke of it, then let them.

You know what's worse than fans voting Scott into the ASG? People complaining about it.

McKenzie is speculating Elliott may already have been traded by Montreal, so perhaps more to come.
“@TheFourthPeriod: Per @GagnonFrancois, Elliott going to Preds and D Victor Bartley to Habs”

Shithead has never pummeled anyone. Kessel had more of a "fight" with Scott than Shithead will ever had. Assuming Scott actually dresses, I don't envy Randell.
Yeah, "pummel" was the wrong word. I really meant "destroy each other with cheap shots".

The NHL got a franchise they still have their fingerprints all over to trade the guy so he didn't appear in the ASG, even though the fans voted him in. Obviously he shouldn't be in it, but the fans voted him in. Don't want that to happen? Get rid of the fan vote.

Best game on earth, worst league running the game on earth.

This is exactly what I meant by the NHL being a joke sometimes. Well put.

All they had to do was claim all his votes were fake like they did with Rory Fitzpatrick years ago. Instead they publicly say he can play while covertly encouraging transactions to make him ineligible. Amazing.

The Drouin saga has kicked up a notch. He apparently is a no-show for the Syracuse game tonight, and the Lightning have apparently suspended him without pay.

Drouin's agent, Allan Walsh, responds back (Paraphrasing)- "Tampa wanted him to go down for conditioning due to his prior injuries and to prove his health. It has now been two weeks, hurry up already. Bolts told us a trade was close, so we asked if Drouin could practice with Syracuse but not play any games, so as to not risk an injury in a game derail any trade. Bolts said no, but we said fuck it and Drouin won't play anymore for Syracuse."
