Aside from the glare issue earlier, seems like these are pristine conditions. Good pace to the game.
Why is the NHL so in love with the configuration that places the rink across the diamond 1st to 3rd, especially at stadiums with a deeper, narrower foul territory back behind home plate.
If the rotated LA and NYY rinks 90 degrees and pushed them as far down towards home plate as they can get, you'd make a lot more REAL hockey seats, while making some already shitty seats slightly more shittier.

Yup. The Devils looked like the Island of Mismatched Toys today. Their best skilled players are too old and too slow to match up with a fast team for 60 minutes while their younger and more energetic players make too many mistakes. A fast team playing with high energy exposes all that. We saw all the cracks today. What a mess.mikeford said:

The Sharks and Kings are a lot more fun to watch when they are playing against each other and not the Bruins.
Flyers with a tidy 5-0 win at home vs. the Wings. Granted that's Detroit minus Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, and Bertuzzi. Also the Monster in net, though I'm not sure how much of a break that was, I've never been too impressed with Jimmy Howard.
Now it's off to California...1-2 wouldn't bother me at all. Damn that's a brutal trip.

Warts and all, there is simply no denying that Ovechkin creates offense. The Caps are 2-0 since he's returned, scoring 5 goals in each game. Ovechkin has put up 1+1=2 and 2+2=4, serving as a spark plug to awaken the offense. Ovechkin has had two nice assists on 2-on-1 players in the past two games where the defender (and goalie) were so committed to taking away his shot that Wellman and Green have had slam dunks. Ovechkin has also done a nice job selling the shot before passing.

And she had at least 2 false starts before they introduced her.
Edit: On a hockey related note, I'm not sure the Islanders are making a wise decision in starting Nabokov tonight. First start back from injury, it may not be wist to play him on bad ice and in freeze cold temperatures. Seems like they're asking for trouble.

He's skating a lot better than he did earlier in the season too. It's not just wheeling around the ice looking for his shot.

Yup, I totally agree. The only guy on the team that knows how to play in the offensive zone. Imagine what he could do if he had ANYONE to play with on the first line.mikeford said:

I'll pop champagne but it'll cost more than $5 a bottle. It'll be cause for celebration. I'm done with Deboer....and Lou as well, actually. The same limitations that got Deboer fired in Florida are manifesting again in Jersey. Players are not getting better. The team seems unable to progress beyond mediocrity, which, right now, still seems like a step up. Lines are constantly being shifted to try to catch lightning in a bottle but nothing is clicking. The young guys are not progressing but are being juggled between Newark and Albany. The old guys are just too old...period. They can't close out games because they have no extra gear to go to anymore. When the other team start pressuring, the puck always seems to be just out of reach of the Devils' old-timers. Just see what's happened in the last two games, losing regulation wins in the last minute because they simply can't get the puck out of their own end.mikeford said:
Jagr is the only reason to watch this slow-motion train wreck. The guy is just so strong on the puck, even as he's about to turn 42. He's a great passer, too. He puts goals on everyone else's sticks but most of his teammates are not expecting the pass or can't put it in the net once they get it because their reactions are just a tad too slow. It's frustrating to watch, really. I doubt that Jagr is going to want to stick around for another year of this.
Khudobin has been an absolute beast for the Hurricanes. He is now 12-4 and the 'Canes beat St. Louis 3-1 last night.
