Yeah, the only way this deal works out for Houston is if the situation gets so toxic so quickly that Durant walks out after '22. Because if it works out for the Nets the Rockets just entered a generational rebuild. They could possibly have/get decentish firsts in '22 and '23 before losing their draft for the remainder of the decade (more or less). I guess with a bunch of picks in the 20s they can always hope to strike on the next Jimmy Butler.
Jarrett Allen is 22 and was blossoming into an absolute stud this season. Oladipo is a great dude and borderline superstar when healthy. Love this deal for the Rockets.
I love KD, but will literally root hard for LeBron in the finals against this loathsome edition of the Nets.

The Cavs getting Jarrett Allen - a very useful player both on the court or as a trade asset going forward - for a Bucks first-round pick is possibly the most impressive part of this whole thing.
Guys, this is a disaster. Brooklyn has no size. Brooklyn has no depth off the bench. To make up for all of that they need to have their three stars to be locked in and working extremely hard to contend. This is not the Heatles, it isn't the Warriors, it's not LeBron on the Lakers. It's Durant, a prickly personality who has been frustrated when he was in good situations, Harden, who has never come up big in the playoffs, is at least 20lbs overweight and just shot his way out of Houston, and KYRIE, who as we speak is AWOL from the team and apparently already mad at Durant and didn't want Nash to coach the team. Nobody has to worry about these guys.

Nets now have lost Dineiddie/Allen/LeVert which have been the reason they could have won the East. Their 8-9 deep was the best in the game. Now not so much.
The number of unprotected picks and swaps is obviously bonkers. Huge uncertainty with those but can't imagine the Rockets could ever expect anything better from an overweight, out of shape, unhappy James Harden.
Don't really get the move to get Oladipo portion of the deal for the Rockets. One season before FA in an obvious re-build. I would rather have LaVert at reasonable money over the next 3 seasons.

Alas, they didn't get Allen, they moved he and Prince for other roleplayers and a bottom five '22 #1.
It might not matter much, but it actually could matter as the Rockets get the lowest of the their own, the OKC, or the Miami #1. And Miami could well outperform the Nets this year, meaning that the swap might help the Rockets move up a few spots at the end of the first.2021 swap isn't an issue but the rest
I think the front office is making the short-sighted decision to fight for a playoff spot this year in order to justify Morey's horrific CP3 trade. They're going to keep him this year, and then likely nuke the team in the summer in order to get high lottery picks in '22 and '23.
Am just relieved any slim chance of Jaylen getting traded for Harden has now been fully extinguished.
Yep, when KD and Kyrie first signed with the Nets the consensus was “wow, adding KD and Kyrie to that promising core makes for a really dangerous team.” Now there is no promising core, really.
To play Devil's advocate, the playoffs don't care too much about players 8 and 9 on the bench. But yea, they can't afford any injuries and have no bigs off the bench.
I haven't been monitoring Nets situations as closely as most in this thread, but I guess their thinking was, "With Kyrie AWOL, KD will bolt unless we bring in another superstar, and then this whole thing was for naught."
In a weird way, if you just mentally eliminate Kyrie from the picture altogether, Durant and Harden are a pretty awesome duo. While the negative reaction to this trade is mostly merited, I think some of it is an over-extension of the whole "OMG, Kyrie is toxic" narrative.

I'm guessing that Morey made Simmons and Maxey untouchable and Houston just didn't like any of the Harris/Thybulle packages.
I was going to ask if Pierce and Garnett are part of the deal.
I wonder if Morey's role in Philadelphia made a deal with Houston harder or, alternatively, if his unique insight into the Harden as well as the Rockets caused him to walk away. Hopefully we get some independent reporting on the follow but its typically just spin from a source.
Kyrie is going to hit his decline phase by about 2022. Nets will be tough until then, but after that the bottom could fall out. Still, the ring chasing vets will have another destination this coming offseason.
The Mr. Chemistry and fat Harden jokes are all fun and games until Harden gets in shape and Kyrie pulls his head out of his ass. Best team in the East on paper and it isn’t even close.

Yes he is. So yeah, the first 3 off the bench are Green, Shamet, and ??? Brooklyn has easily the best 1-3 in the league, but are there any legit playoff teams with a 4-8 nearly that bad?

What is Cleveland going to do with Allen and Drummond (and Nance for that matter)? They have to move one, right?
They might trade Nance if they get a good deal, but otherwise, they probably just hold them and let Drummond walk, he's in the last year of his deal

Embiid will be happy to see Allen get out of his hair, so to speak. Joel always had trouble defending Allen or keeping him off the boards.
As a technical matter, he doesn’t have a no-trade clause as far as I am aware. The question of whether anyone else would want him at this point or, if they do, how much of value they’d be willing to give up, is a different question...
Fat Harden also had a 44/17/4 game before he remembered that he was supposed to be sulking.
The things people are saying about this deal are the same thing people always say when a team puts together a group of superstars- there’s only one basketball, their depth is bad, we don’t know if the personalities will work etc. All of that is true, but top tier talent wins in the NBA. This is a pretty amazing trio. They are going to be dysfunctional as hell but they could be very good.
Kyrie was against trading for Harden. I think him going AWOL pushed the Nets to make the trade.
It took the Heatles a year to work everything out, and they only had two ball dominant guys (Bosh was ball dominant because the Raptors needed him to be, but his game worked well off ball too). The '77 76ers were the poster child for the "there's only one basketball" teams.
