Does anyone have a recommendation for a very simple app for checking scores in real time on games (major sports and college)? I don't need anything fancy (I don't particularly care about "watching" a game online), but just want to see what the score is. I see there is an ESPN one, but don't want anything too bloated. It would be great if I could focus it down to favorite teams, etc. Thanks!
Yahoo! Sportacular does the job for me. Simple layout, and can customize by favorite teams. There's a free version with ads and a paid one ($1.99) without.

Agree with Matthew M.. If you decide to follow the stats of the game, it's very user-friendly with tabs, etc.. It's as close as I know to an equivalent of watching on a game-tracker on a desktop.

Anyone up to 30x on tiny wings? I'm up to 26x and the only objective I have left is 175k and I JUST got 172 and practically smashed my phone to the ground.

Edit: Finally got the 175 (actually got 185) and the new objectives are crazy. 20 cloud touches without a fever, 9th island, and fly through the 4th island on fever. I have a feeling the hardest is going to be the 4th island.

The toilet.
Yeah, I can't do the 4th island on fever. I actually just reset the game and started over, because that was killing me. The 20 cloud touches was pretty tough, too.

I just took out 22x, 24x and 26x in about an hour. Great run, I ended up getting 214,000 when going for 175,000. I just missed the 4th island fever by one jump, I hit it just off on the 2nd to last hill. FUck.

The HBO GO app is out today for iPhone and iPad. It looks amazing. If you're an HBO subscriber with certain specified cable carriers (including, in my case, DirecTV), the app provides on demand access to virtually everything HBO has produced in recent years (including, for example every episode of The Wire, The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc.).

I just downloaded it, it is amazing.

Not only does it have every HBO show on, but it appears to have every single movie HBO is showing that month. Awesome.

Not fucking awesome if you have Time Warner Cable and the irony is that they have their own iPad app for watching some basic cable shows.

Has anyone tried TuneIn? Its awesome you can listen to virtually any radio station anywhere. I am listening to Francesa on the FAN here in KC. If you buy the app ($1.99) you can also record programs. Great App.

For baseball sim fans, iOOTP is going to be released tomorrow (5/5, should be in the store at midnight tonight).

Three good weather apps that don't suck balls like WeatherBug or TheWeatherChannelLite or whatever are typically the top weather apps in the App Store.

Wx Alert USA - I used to have a launcher for my local NWS page in Safari, but this app culls the National Weather Service forecasts. Nice and tidy to have all that info in one app, even if you only care about point forecasts (and therefore only use the first tab). Also has forecast discussions, graphical products, radar, satellite, etc. My one gripe is it downloads the entire package of data first (rather than on the fly) which can be kind of a pain if you don't have awesome up/down rates.

Fahrenheit - An app that tells you temperature at your nearest official reporting station (usually an airport). The cool thing about this is it pushes a badge (if you allow pushing) to your phone, so the icon itself shows the temperature without having to open any apps. Easy to see how warm it is outside when I get up and check my e-mail/etc. from bed.

RadarScope - This one most weather geeks have heard about, but it's the top radar app hands-down. Stupidly simple for those that just want to see "where is the rain?" and it even locks in on your GPS coordinates so you can pinpoint exactly where you are (obviously, a couple miles makes a huge difference if you are staring down the barrel of a supercell). Also gets data from rest of NEXRAD servers for all other radar stuff (velocities, vertically integrated liquid) if you-- are you know-- into that kind of thing.

Buyer beware: both saved files of mine have corrupted and I can't get them to recover when cued to do so.
I can't reproduce that although I have only simmed a couple days in a couple seasons. Jailbroken 4.2.1 i4 on AT&T.

Submit a ticket with OOTP-- the guy who is deving the app has been pretty quick to look at things in the beta; which is a nice refresher from Markus, sometimes.

The game lacks the true depth of OOTP (you only get a "skeleton" minor league roster, and you can demote anyone freely since there is no option system), but this should be VERY playable on flights or other times when you have a half hour to kill but don't want to whip out the laptop. And Papelbon blew a save after Lester went 8 scoreless in the only game I've managed so far, so realism isn't a problem. ;)

My issue is if I answer a text (or anything), the game shuts down and if it hasn't saved, it corrupts and I can't get past the screen to continue from the last save point. Am I doing something wrong? My should I have to reload the game each and every time I switch to another app?

I'm jailbroken as well, on Verizon (4.2.6).

I'll have to check on this later, as I'm heading to meetings in a few.

BTW, HBO is working on adding the hold out cable co's (TWC and James Dolan's Cablevision being the biggest) to offer HBO Go. Negotiations are fluid, but I suspect they'll cave eventually.

the HBO Go iOS app has been a massive hit so far this week so I expect that will pressure the others to get with the program and offer it. Call you cable provider and bitch at them if you want to add pressure.

It's a really awesome interface. It's virtually the entire HBO original programming library at your fingertips.

Thank you for this - tried it and it's way, way better than what I had been using (a combo of Weather Channel & Outside). I also like Mercury - kind of conceptual, but cool. Fahrenheit is by far the most useful, though.

Screen locked and caused a database error again. Not happy with this game.
I tried fast switching and then killing the game without reopening in sbsettings. Nothing. I tried locking the screen during gameplay- nothing. In fact I'm surprised at how resilient the game is given that I've tried to mess with it in ways I won't typically mess with apps (I even did a hard reboot in game).

I'd post on the ootp forums, doesn't look like there is a majority with this bug.

It's one of the most polished & useful apps in the store. Very well done, and it's going into my article of "Must Have iPhone Apps" that I'm finishing up today for Digital Landing. It's just like a Netflix for HBO subs, which is frickin' fantastic. I just worry for your sake that HBO might be losing $$ on this, since I already know of people sharing DTV & HBO-GO login creds.

Maybe the short term loss in those stealing content will result in many new subs long term. Soon those folks won't be able to go without their new favorite shows, and they'll get tired of watching on the 'little screen', so they'll subscribe.

Is there a way to see what cable providers are participating? How do they sync the name to the account/app?

What I learned is I probably should have rebooted after installing the game. I feel pretty dumb right now, but I got it to load, switch between apps without shutting down, and killed the game and reopened and got my saved file to load.

current providers

As for the sharing of log-ins... it's gonna happen to some degree and I think the idea is it's preferable to bit-torrenting, etc. I'm sure there's the same amount of shenanigans with Netflix, MLB, etc.

WHAT? OOTP has bugs? This must be unique to the Apple IOS version.

Seriously though, development issues and changes to the game were the reason I quit my OOTP league. Certain bugs ruined game play in an online league and then each new version (which fixed previous bugs) either changed gameplay considerably or introduced new bugs.

BTW, it also has Skinemax stuff on there. LOL
I know, I am surprised that was included actually.

My wife was playing around on the app and clicked on "Late Night" thinking it would be stuff like Bill Maher. I've kind of been busting her chops about it since because it looked like she was checking out naughty sites.

HBO Go makes me so happy I have U-Verse instead of Cablevision. I'm watching it as much or more than Netflix.

Also, I just shattered the glass on mine; anyone have a spare ATT iphone?

Anyone use any of the MBTA bus tracker apps that they would recommend?

I had been using "OpenMBTA" for about a month, but the last couple of days it isn't picking up realtime bus location data... Or do these break down once in a while?

I just saw this. Let me try to help you out:

Can you give me a few information? I know you have iOS 4.2.6 and jailbroken. What type of device do you have (e.g. iPhone 3G or 3GS or 4)? Do you have the new 1.0.1 update installed (check out the Credits to see the actual version)?

If you have a Multitask device then the App should not close when you switch to another App.

It's Verizon, so it's the iPhone 4. I got the message for the update, then it disappeared. Though I'll note while the issue went away, then came back, it's currently working fine once again.

Any suggestions for apps that offer free texting? I currently have kik* which offers free texting among members, but I'm reading some potential issues regarding privacy, 3rd parties, etc.. Any safer texting apps that people can recommend if I decide to go with something else?

*For those considering kik, it does have some nice features. You can see when your text is sent, delivered, read (past tense) and when the person you texted is typing to text you back.

I haven't seen PhotoSynth mentioned anywhere. It is a free app that allows you to easily take panoramic (or wider) photos. It's super simple to use. You can even take 360 degree shots of a room or anywhere, floor, ceiling, etc.
It's a pretty cool app. It is similar to what you see when you go to street level on google maps. I have found that it works best in large spaces. Here is a photo I took last Monday at Fenway.

Texting or messaging in general? Kik is a BB messenger style format, and slightly better than traditional text. There are other formats that offer similar functionality for free as well.

Check out Voxer. It's a free messenger app that allows for any and all of either instantaneous voice recordings, picture uploads, and optional texting, all within one thread-style conversation. It's pretty ingenious.

It's a great app. I tested a few panoramic apps, and I found Pano to be the best. I took some really beautiful pics in Hawaii with it. Another one with a different approach is VideoPano. With that one, you take a simple steady video of the landscape you want to cover for the panoramic pic, and it creates the photo from that. The only downside to these is that they save all photos and videos in your camera roll, separate from the panoramic created from them. Therefore, you have to delete them each time you finish a new panoramic photo.

Thank you. I'll elaborate. I text so infrequently that I pay per text. Meanwhile I have a couple friends who have iPhones who sometimes text me even though I tell them I pay per text. I tried to convince them to get kik so we could text each other for free. One of them won't do it because he has unlimited text. The other won't do it because he's concerned about security, privacy, etc., which is the main reason I asked the question. How is Voxer with security concerns?

Almost every single app that utilizes social push notifications for free messaging collects user data, and will have access to your address book. Most of them automatically display address book friends with the same app, as well as notifying those friends that you now have that app, which aligns with the fears of the Kik flaws.

Voxer collects most of the same, but does not automatically search your address book and notify other friends within that you now have the app. It asks you to specifically select users to communicate with. They may or may not have the app, and also have the right to choose not to partake, making it more secure than Kik and it's flaws. All texting and other messaging done within is free also, as well as the app. I'm actually very shocked there is something so useful, fun, and polished in the app store offered for free. I wouldn't be surprised to see them charge for it soon.

So I have an Iphone 3GS with IOs 4.3.3. I just sold it on Ebay as Unlocked, I'm an idiot when it comes to this. I was reading an article online that says you'd have a better chance of selling if you include that in your title. I don't actually know if the phone is unlocked, do I have to jailbreak it to unlock the phone?

Anyways I ended up selling it to some guy in the Ukraine, I'm a little weary of shipping it since they prohibit mobile phones unless you get cleared first. Does anyone have similar experiences?
