iPhone 5 Issues

Starting on Friday night my iPhone has been having a ton of issues.  The first is that when I plug it in to charge the percent meter doesn't move.  I have to turn off and on the phone for the meter to update.  Starting on Saturday the percent meter doesn't move at all, plugged or unplugged.  I was at 100% all day until my phone died (when I plugged it in and turned it back on I was at 3%.  And then starting tonight, the phone constantly reboots itself when plugged in.  I am also having the issue of the phone rebooting when I'm on a call.

This all started happening randomly and not because of a drop or water damage.  I had the latest version of iOS 7 installed as well.  I've tried resetting the phone to factor settings and starting as a new phone, thinking it could have been an app that messed things up.  Nope.  Still having the same problem.  FWIW, I got the phone in December of 2012.  Has anyone experienced this before?

Did you do an actual restore by plugging it into a computer and using iTunes? Or did you just reset the settings from within the Settings app on the phone?

If you didn't try a restore via iTunes, I'd do that next.

It's weird, because I had something similar happen to my iPhone 5 in November 2012. It out of nowhere started going into a reboot loop, and of course I had a phone interview that day, and it did that about 5 times during the interview. I didn't end up getting that job, but 6 months later got another (even better job) that I applied for at the same company at the same time. How did I fix the issue? I didn't, I brought the phone with me overseas (I was leaving for vacation two days after), and it resolved itself. Totally out of the blue, but went away on its own. Had I not been pressed for time before my trip (and had a backup 4S for the trip), I would have brought it to the store and they likely would have replaced it. Try bringing it in at least.

So I took it into the store yesterday afternoon and they basically told me "nothing we can do."  So I tried reinstalling directly from iTunes and the problem persisted and in some ways got worse (would shut down when in lock screen for 5 minutes).  So I took it back today and said "what can you do to get me a new phone?"  The guy ran some diagnostics on the battery and said that it was at replacement level.  So he replaced it and told me to see if that works.  So far, no crashes and its charging fine.  Hopefully that is it, as $80 is much better than $260.
