So I requested an invite directly from Google on Friday, but still haven't received it. Those of you that have gone this route, how long did you have to wait? I'm perfectly fine waiting on it. Just curious.

I requested one right after they announced it on Wednesday, got it Thursday night.

I'm with canderson ... I tried and deleted it. Frankly I found it to be cumbersome, stuff bundled so I couldn't find it.  Looks like a lot of clutter with emails getting buried and becoming hard to find.  I like the layout of gmail and didn't see a need to change.  But maybe that's the crotchety old man in me.

Any luck yet? I sent my request the same day you did but still haven't heard anything.

Nope. I've even made sure to keep an eye on my spam folder, but still haven't gotten anything.

The "I don't click through links" version (via Verge):

Between 6PM and 7PM ET today (i.e. Wednesday, 11/5), Google will provide invites to any and all users that request one. Just like before, you'll have to emall inbox@google.com to get in. But once you do, there won't be long to wait; Google says all Inbox invites will be delivered by 8PM ET (5PM PT).

I got mine around the same time. It's ok, but at first glance I can't see myself dropping Gmail for it. Some of the search functions are really nice though, so maybe Gmail can integrate them.

I installed the app and it essentially took all my inbox mail from the past two or so weeks and put it in "all mail". Uh, thanks?

The top emails now are old Amazon purchases and a hotel reservation for May 2015. Think I'll go stick to the default Gmail for now.

Happened to me too, when I checked off the "Social" and "Updates" bundles and so on. A bit jarring at first, but it's nice to look at a clean inbox now.

I requested an invite on Oct. 24 and still haven't heard a peep from Google, so I just went ahead and paid a buck for one on eBay.  Am I understanding this right that I need a separate invitation for every gmail account I want to add to the app?

EDIT:  Never mind.  The app wouldn't let me add additional gmail accounts because I closed the account that received the invitation before activating the other accounts.  As long as the initial account is open, it lets me add all of my other accounts.  It looks great, but the lack of a unified inbox is the deal killer.  I'll probably stick with Mailbox.

I'd like an invite please. If you're friends with me on the book of Face, I'm first name dot last name at gmail.

Thanks!

You guys should check out Mailbox, the product that Google is basically plagiarizing with Inbox.

That's my jam.
They look and feel very different. Not sure I see plagiarism here, unless "clean" is now an idea to be stolen.

Just got mine too. Bummed it won't support my work email, but it's nice to have a clean inbox in just a few swipes.

I got my invite today. Still trying to figure it out. I didn't really find the old gmail to be all that troublesome so this extra layer of organization...Not sure I "get" it. But I'll keep playing with it. So far I am just using it on the phone.

I think a big difference is that Inbox attempts to help you clear messages, while Inbox is meant to surface the most important/relevant messages and stash away the noise.

I didn't like inbox in my test run. By the time I got it I had already heard horror stories from friends and coworkers that it does so much rearranging and recategorizing of messages that when they dropped it their inboxes were fubar (I never used it long enough to verify this to any degree).

I got an invite to inbox a few days ago. I didn't deal with it. Now it's buried a few pages back in my inbox.
Well played.

I think the long and short of it are if you had put the work in with Gmail to keep things organized then you probably are not going to like Inbox.  If your gmail was just one giant list of crap like mine then Inbox is a godsend.

I am not sure I like it. I already had my mail pretty well sorted with filters and labels.
