Prediction: it’s going to be really bad.

I can’t imagine it’s going this much to shit over anything remotely borderline. Like not criminal, but clearly intolerable.
This is where I am. It's going to be bad.

There seems to be a large swath of the fan base that thinks the Celtics are over reacting and dragging Ime's name through the mud for the fun of it.

Do people really think the C's want to do this? The organization is focused on trying to win a championship! This was their year! And Ime was the coach that was going to lead them. It's far more likely he did something so egregious that he forced the Celtic's hand with this.

Feels like what we have heard has stressed that it was a consensual relationship, what horrors are y’all imagining?

Great but then why leak yesterday? Why not make the deal and not create a bleep show crisis?
It’s getting ahead of the story.

There is some poor dude out therewhose immoral wife was banging this piece of garbage. How do you know he’s not on the phone with every newspaper and tv station within 2500 miles of Boston?

It’s not perfect but sometimes you need to take some damage to mitigate a nuclear blast.

that’s assuming a controlled leak of course

Or, and stick with me, maybe IME ruined his own career by prioritizing an inappropriate relationship over his team and players and colleagues and maybe that’s not the kinda fella you want or trust to drive your Ferrari.
Yeah man, the team was put in a horrible position by Ime. They've probably been scrambling the last few days, as Woj alluded to.

I’ve seen one former player comment on the actual situation, it was Evan Turner, who’s very familiar with our players, and VERY close with Tatum. Just thought it was interesting, is a line from a Future song, but common sense says it’s about Ime lol.

I have more confidence in organizations that handle bad situations like this appropriately (professionally and ethically) than those that don't. And that confidence also extends to generating good results on the court or whatever profession they're in.

Obviously we don't know very much to understand how well the Celtics are handling this, but I suspect Brad Stevens is doing the right things. If so, good on him and I think the organization is in fine hands.

Story was going to come out in the next few days and they tried to get out in front of it probably.

From an earlier report the players knew for a few days. They'll only stay quiet so long...
Or they didn't stay quiet and one of the players was the leak yesterday

Piece of garbage and immoral wife are way over the top, absent additional facts maybe flawed human beings would suffice?

Agreed. There is a near 0% chance this is some random low level female staffer he had an affair with. It's going to be multiple women and/or people with ties high up in the organization (or players).

I don't know if we will ever get the full story and perhaps the Celtics FO is overreacting, who knows. But I would be shocked if there are not some more layers to be uncovered here.

Probably the most consequential decision Brad will make as Pres/GM, just because it likely has so many after effects. He better be sure. (This assumes it’s his decision and not an edict from Wyc and Pags.)
I would be pretty surprised if this decision is not entirely (or at least primarily) from ownership.

Brad may have to be the face of it but these are not the kind of things you can delegate.

Its always hard when its "your team" - but doing the right thing is never easy.

You cannot have a respectable organization that turns a blind eye to their head coach having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

We don't know what info Pierce has or if he feels compelled to speak up for a fellow peer/acquaintance/friend. This Tweet certainly has the potential to age poorly too.

Until we have the full story - if we get it at all - its hard to tease out legitimate commentary from signalling. Its entirely possible that players/contemporaries may say one thing publicly but have a different perspective in private.

We just don't know enough yet.
The way things are shaping up this thing seems like it may end abruptly with a settlement agreement in the next day or two. Between Ime’s refusal to resign and the Celtics lack of comments they would appear to be negotiating a separation settlement. This doesn’t smell like anything but.

I don't know if the Celtics are considered generally PR savvy or not, but they haven't had a good day today handling a situation that while messy, didn't need to be almost 24 hours now of people trying to figure out who the head coach was screwing around with and what he could have been done to be worth what seems to be the worst team rendered disciplinary penalty in sports history.

The story has clearly been internally known for a period of time now. How could they not be prepared at bare minimum to do basic crisis management rather than let the media world do nothing but pass judgement at Ime or the team for overreacting (to something they likely don't have details on)?
What do people expect them to say? Even when this is wrapped up and they make a statement, it's not going to be, oh Ime was banging that trainer over there, and that's against our policy.

It's going to be vague, and people are going to speculate same as they are right now. A statement early, or late, will mean nothing.

The only way the other party(or parties) to this besides Ime will be revealed is if they file a lawsuit.

Great but then why leak yesterday? Why not make the deal and not create a bleep show crisis?
I can't imagine this leak is from Celtics brass. Besides that seeming very unlike Brads MO, the leak isn't really helpful to them.

And the people in this thread trying to downplay what Ime has done here, assuming these reports are true, is fucking embarrassing.

Gilbert arenas got significantly less for bringing guns in the locker room.....13 yrs ago but this penalty is absolutely insane if it's just an inappropriate relationship.

Since I don't know more, I will wait with all of you to see what falls out.

My understanding is this is all Steve Pagliuca’s overreaction and he’s the direct leak to the media to ruin Ime’s career as payback. I’ll let the rest come out over time.

Your understanding based on reading tea leaves, or some source? Not asking you to out the source, just wondering the basis.

Damn, this news makes me sick. A year seems like a lot (of course I don't know all the details). All I can say is the Celtics better have gotten this right. They've got a bunch of guys in that locker room who might just wonder, "Would a white coach get a one-year suspension if he did this?"

Do they? Do they have a history of racism? If I recall correctly, the Celtics traditionally have been one of the least racist organizations out there.

he said they “might” wonder. I think that’s a legit take especially if the Pags rumors are true.

That is, at least, a different reason the delay might be happening---perhaps rest of org wasn't behind the one-year suspension plan. If so, they'd need to buy Pagliuca out and then figure out how to manage through with Ime. That would be a hell of way for this to be going behind closed doors

Or just calming him down, trying to find a less disruptive way through this (again assuming no more odious facts come out). If it’s personal for Pagliuca, maybe his initial reaction isn’t what will determine the final outcome.

Obviously, we all need to take a deep breadth and wait for actual news instead of rumor, innuendo and speculation, but I'm shocked at the number of people eager to blame ownership or the front office for overreacting (especially the insinuations of racism in the decision).

There's a whole thread with several hundred post decrying (rightly) the scumbag Browns organization over the DeShaun Watson situation. We should be proud to root for a franchise with principles and a willingness to do a difficult thing even if it might cost them a shot at a special season.

So, take a deep breath and wait for news...but be proud of the organization for making the right decision. Got it.

No, for making what they think is the right decision and not wussing out of it because the only thing that matters is winning.
How do you know it’s the right decision without any of the facts? I get that you’re saying proud of the franchise for the franchise making a decision they think is right… but that would apply to say the Bills for not immediately cutting their punter as well, using your logic.

Total guess here at what might raise this to the level of cutting the cord; but possible he coerced or threatened the woman to be quiet and she reported it to management. An angle I haven’t heard yet.

If that's what happened, Ime should throw a god damn fit, and scream it from the top of the Garden... But I think it's really unlikely that's its something like that.
Anything is possible, but I agree that it seems unlikely.

I'm curious where the leaks that this is all a Steve Pagliuca overreaction are coming from. Could be straight truth. Could be from someone carrying water for Ime.

It may take a while, but I'd guess there will be enough media types digging that most of the details will eventually come out.
