Pretty sure he was joking, just a throwaway line in a puff piece which is why I didn't post this on the main forum, butttttttttttttttt if Big Papi is still getting it done, and we get deep into October, and look primed for another playoff run next year, and the Red Sox drop 7 figures on the guy.... maybe? Could we see the big guy come back for one more?
Hard to believe he wouldn't still have something in the tank.
Hard to believe that if he did, he wouldn't be willing to at least keep himself in playing shape.
Hard to believe that a guy like that who loves this town and this sport, would just hang it up and leave it hung up with a team begging him to come play again. And now he's dropping hints like this knowing exactly what wild guessers like me are gonna do with it.
Sounds like he could be persuaded. Maybe he can. Would be great if.
