iCloud storage doesn't add up

Anyone ever had an iCloud storage issue where the cloud and what is in the devices doesn't match?

Mine as you can see says I'm using 2.4gb yet I have only 1.3gb total backed up (I deleted my phone backup to see if it made it better, it still has the discrepancy). Any clues how to get back my free space?

And I've never been able to delete the 5.1mb Mail storage and have no idea what it even is.

I do, I lived in and saw it had 4 emails - I assume that will, take care of that mail icon.

But doesn't helps/ the unaccounted for 2gb or so.

Did you have anything in iCloud Photo Library? I believe if you remove it rather than actually deleting the photos specifically that Apple saves it for ~30 days before actually flushing it.

Don't use it. I have 1.1gb of a backup I can't see the source so I'm assuming it is some old backup of a phone I no longer have. Have a call set w/Apple tomorrow to see if they can clear it out.

So I have a similar but different issue. Not iCloud storage, but iPhone storage. My phone tells me I am using 9.2 GB and have 2.2 free, but when you look at this, the usage only adds up to like 4 GB. Thoughts on what is happening??

So this is legit. I just used it and went from 2 GB free to 6.

'I have an iPhone with 16GB so I'm always dealing with low storage,' Reddit user eavesdroppingyou said on the original post.

'A trick I do to get back some storage is to try to 'rent' a movie with a big file size.'

He used Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers as an example.

Users can check their current used and available storage space by going to Settings, General and Storage & iCloud Usage.

For the trick to work, the user attempts to rent from iTunes must be larger than the amount of storage left on the iPhone or iPad.

It only works if there is less free storage space on the phone than the movie in the iTunes store.
