These guys deserve their own thread after going into the Troll Center and winning Dusty May's first conference game on the road in Madison!

The headline are the two bigs and their pick and roll game. Both Wolf and Vlad went off for 20+ points, and Wolf in particular had a boxscore reflecting his superlative game:
31 mins, 7/11 (2/4 from 3), 4/4 FTs, 7 rebs, 5 assists, 3 steals (!), 5 blocks (!), 1 TO, 3 fouls. Just unstoppable.

Vlad played 33 mins, going 9/16 with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Tre Donaldson had a horror show and I kept hoping May would try someone else at the point but it never happened. 31 mins, 0-7 (passing up open 3s for contested drives), 7 rebounds (good), 3 assists (just OK), and 2 turnovers.

I love me Roddy Gayle but he had a rough night too--32 mins, 3/6, 6 rebounds, 5 assists but 4 turnovers, and had a lot of trouble defending and rebounding--things I normally consider his strengths.

Nimari Burnett was probably the third best starter and I really like his game. If he makes 1-2 more 3s this game Michigan probably cruises, but his D was outstanding and he's just a smart player. What an improvement from this guy!

Rubin Jones led the bench in minutes with 16, but was anonymous as was most of the bench. Will Tschetter probably had the best minutes from the bench, bringing tons of energy and really impressive D. Another amazing turnaround.

I already love Dusty May and can't wait to see what he does with this program. He's already doing so well and it feels like we're starting another Beilein-like era.

The underlying stats love Michigan too, we're currently 17th in Kenpom rankings. Purdue, IL, [Michigan is here] UCLA, OSU, and Oregon are in the same vicinity.

What a week for Michigan sports. IT'S GREAT, TO BE, A MIIIIIIICHIGAN WOOOOOOLVERINE!!!

Another game where Michigan played poorly and shot poorly, but still nabbed a W. They start the Jimmy V Classic tomorrow at MSG vs. Arkansas, who's ranked in the top 50 on Kenpom.

Big wins out West for the Wolverines, as they clobbered ranked UCLA last night after blasting USC earlier in the week.

Goldin went for a career night, 36 points on highly efficient shooting and FTs. Tre Donaldson also had himself a game, going for 6 3s on 10 attempts, 7 assists to only 2 turnovers, and adding 2 steals. Wolf was the catalyst again for many of the good things on offense, but he had 7 turnovers to go with 6 assists. Nimari Burnett continues to be quietly excellent--he went 3/4 from 3, had 4 assists, and 2 steals. Those 4 guys (Vlad, Wolf, Tre, and Nimari) accounted for 90% of Michigan's points!

The only other thing of note to me is that Sam Walters got real minutes off the bench (21), had some good looks (4), but has cooled off considerably from 3. He's down to 34% on the season, after shooting 39% last year. He was 1/4 last night.

Michigan has 3 easy conference games (Washington, @Minny, Northwestern) before visiting Purdue.

If this team can get their turnovers under control--16 last night (gross)--they could really push for a league title and top 10 ranking come March. Go Blue!

Michigan steamrolled Washington yesterday afternoon. Not any huge headlines. Burnett stays hot going 4/4 from 3. Walters going 3/6 from 3, hopefully showing signs of getting out of his slump. Gayle was back and played 25 minutes and poured in 15 points. Very even scoring spread out--Vlad led scorers with 19 on 6/7 shooting in 26 minutes. Probably the biggest thing was only 11 turnovers as a team--Wolf with 4 can hopefully get better, and Nimari had an uncharacteristic 3. Tre had a cold shooting night but was the lead creator with 6 assists.

Michigan visits an abject Minny team on Thursday night. Hopefully Michigan makes some hay against bad competition these next 2 weeks and they climb up the rankings. This team is really top 10-15 nationally IMO.
