These guys deserve their own thread after going into the Troll Center and winning Dusty May's first conference game on the road in Madison!
The headline are the two bigs and their pick and roll game. Both Wolf and Vlad went off for 20+ points, and Wolf in particular had a boxscore reflecting his superlative game:
31 mins, 7/11 (2/4 from 3), 4/4 FTs, 7 rebs, 5 assists, 3 steals (!), 5 blocks (!), 1 TO, 3 fouls. Just unstoppable.
Vlad played 33 mins, going 9/16 with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Tre Donaldson had a horror show and I kept hoping May would try someone else at the point but it never happened. 31 mins, 0-7 (passing up open 3s for contested drives), 7 rebounds (good), 3 assists (just OK), and 2 turnovers.
I love me Roddy Gayle but he had a rough night too--32 mins, 3/6, 6 rebounds, 5 assists but 4 turnovers, and had a lot of trouble defending and rebounding--things I normally consider his strengths.
Nimari Burnett was probably the third best starter and I really like his game. If he makes 1-2 more 3s this game Michigan probably cruises, but his D was outstanding and he's just a smart player. What an improvement from this guy!
Rubin Jones led the bench in minutes with 16, but was anonymous as was most of the bench. Will Tschetter probably had the best minutes from the bench, bringing tons of energy and really impressive D. Another amazing turnaround.
I already love Dusty May and can't wait to see what he does with this program. He's already doing so well and it feels like we're starting another Beilein-like era.
The underlying stats love Michigan too, we're currently 17th in Kenpom rankings. Purdue, IL, [Michigan is here] UCLA, OSU, and Oregon are in the same vicinity.
What a week for Michigan sports. IT'S GREAT, TO BE, A MIIIIIIICHIGAN WOOOOOOLVERINE!!!
