I was reading the "Given the current reality" thread the other day and started thinking about how nice it was and what a hell of a change it's been since the "dark" days. So I went back to the beginning of this forum and started reading some old threads. How far we have come. :)

2006 training camp
I was excited about how good Mark Mowers looked!
There was a "be a bruin" competition to have a guy invited to camp (it wound up being Billy Tibbets)
Statsny! Jurcina! Dempsey! Primeau! Tenkrat! - your 2006 Boston Bruins!

Tim Thomas - a play in many acts begins

Chia discussion

Who is this Soderberg guy?
A solid goalie prospect like Hannu is so much harder to find than a forward with "good skating ability" and "quick feet."
Chiarelli has officially dipped from "average GM" to "poor GM".
This is abominable.

Claude hired

Marchand signed - 0 replies

07-08 - playoffs?

Game 6
Got chills reading through that again

07-08 retrospective

So yeah. This is pretty fun stuff, eh?

How about the thread with the comeback against the Leafs:  http://sonsofsamhorn.net/topic/77609-513-bruins-vs-leafs/?st=0

Game over. Season over. Era over.

Can we fire BOTH Claude and Chia?

Bruins and Celtics back to being boring and mediocre

No kidding. We heard all sorts of happy horseshit about how the last 25 games of the season didn't mean anything. Well, they did. That's who this team really was. They're shitty.

AND THEN:

t begins.

AND THEN:

Well, it's interesting now.

AND THEN:

HOLY SHIT!!!!!

AND FINALLY:

Nah, the treads threatening firearms on Chiarelli for trading Boyes to St. Louis makes for better comedy. Back then, more than a few of us were convinced the organization was going nowhere slow.

I'm glancing at those old threads desperately hoping I don't see my name.

It's amazing how much our attitude has changed given the last few years, and how bad our own expectations/attitudes were back in 2006 or so on the basis of the previous 13 years or so. The team's long stretch of mediocrity had really beaten us down.

The username-post content irony here is off the charts.  From Obscure Name:

Can't say I know anything about Steven Soderbergh, but I'm certainly sad to see Hannu go. He was horribly mishandled last year, and I don't see the wisdom in trading him when his value has to be its lowest, for a guy who's injured and probably won't be playing for the team for at least a year. I hope nothing happens to Rask.

In other news, I am very glad I didn't start actively posting in this forum until the '08-'09 season.  I can't imagine how much bigger of an ass I would have made myself than I already have.  Those were some desperate times.

Oh don't worry, you're in there. But it's okay. We're all in there. :)
