I don't know about other teams, but the Red Sox make this impossible for most. By the time the gates open they are mostly done and the road team has the field. Never understood why that's a good move from a marketing perspective. When I was a kid, my dad wouldn't even bother taking us to the game if we couldn't get there in time for BP and, more importantly, infield practice, which is now an artifact of a bygone age.
Agreed, it's bizarre. Perhaps I'm just disillusioned by the general lack of interest in Boston at the moment, but it really seems as if MLB has dropped the ball in appealing to a younger generation of fans.

It is a common practice on all levels of baseball that the home team takes BP first and the road team gets BP second.

A little late, but I absolutely loved the reruns of the 1960's HR Derby shows when I was a kid. My brother and I would play our own derby in the yard then race inside to watch it in the afternoons during summer break in the 80's.

"I don't know what this means so you can sabermatic this one."

Holy fuck.  Someone slip him a roofie and toss his unconscious ass in a luxury box to sleep it off.

They were fun, but they often made you wonder whether the video of the swing, like that Mantle one, and the flight of the ball were really related.

"Back back back back and gone.  That was just a two backer."

He applied sabermatics to his home run call and adjusted for the unnaturally fast pace.

Wouldn't it be fun if baseball took the WORST home run hitters per PA and made them the Derby contestants? I'd actually watch that.

Berman is a total embarrassment. Doing more harm then good. Used to be funny to laugh at him but this is stupid. ESPN has to ease him out of big ticket events like this.

I'm pretty sure Old Spice just raped my mind.  That was one of the most bizarre commercials I've ever seen.
I'm not sure I want you to get off.

ESPN Idiots didn't account for how annoying the catcher's helmet cam would be when he glances left after every pitch to toss the ball away.

I was trying to think who ESPN has that would be good at announcing this thing, and the best I could come up with was, maybe. John Anderson. Among former employees, Eisen could do it.
