Looked up to see whether there were any matches today, and other than a few Eredevisie matches it's pretty slim. However, those Dutch matches include PSV vs. Go Ahead Eagles. There's got to be a decent story behind that club name!

Wolves will have 9 days between matches when they play Arsenal on the 28th.

Arsenal will have about 36 hours.
In a lot of ways, having matches cancelled in this period is actually a big advantage. You have to make it up later, of course, but its easier to figure out how to play one extra midweek in April than to figure out how to play three matches in five days with a depleted squad.

I think Arteta will need to just rotate nearly the entire team and hope for the best. The thing you really don't want to do is overplay anybody, get them injured, and just make the problem worse.

Everton now have an outbreak after a player was found to have contracted shortly after their last test, been asymptomatic, and spread throughout the squad in their trip to Chelsea. Toffees have only 9 outfield players and 3 keepers available but their request to postpone their game against Burnley has been denied.

In addition to the paramount concern re: player health, the integrity of the competition is being debased. Some teams are going to have makeup games in double and even triple game weeks, while others will not - which cuts both ways, some teams will have more games later but will avoid having to play with ravaged squads right now; some teams now have to go deep into their academies and U23s to get enough bodies, while others do not; and worst IMO, as with so many other things PL, the application of the rules is uneven, leading to charges of bias in favor of some clubs/against others that aren't so easy to dismiss.

It's a mess. Shut it down for a month.

Yeah, as long as guys aren't actually getting REALLY sick and getting long term damage, this definitely feels like it tips the scales in favor of the team with the outbreak. Especially in cases where they don't have European football.

If Leeds and Everton end up a point off for a European place (or for the drop as seems more likely at the moment for both sadly) how is this not a huge issue at season's end?
Well, some semblance of fairness has been restored.

Agreed. This is so, so stupid.

Probably not as good as you'd hoped.

They were founded as Be Quick, but were forced to change their name by the Dutch federation when they began competing at a national level because there was another team called Be Quick in Groningen. They added "Eagles" in the 70s when the professional club split from the amateur part of the organisation, to differentiate. The eagle is from the badge of their home town, Deventer.

Marc albrighton and Luke thomas as a full-backs...City should have fun
They are.

So .. VAR intervenes and “recommends” Tierney check the monitor … gee .. a penalty is awarded.

first .. it was a PEN
second … the monitor check is a joke … I have seen exactly one check since it was brought in where the initial decision wasn’t overturned. The camera showed what Tierney could see.. A cursory slo-mo replay and voila .. overturned.

As constituted its strictly PR. And a complete joke . Get rid if it. Get rid of VAR altogether. It’s ruining (has already ruined) the game.

edit: as a counterpoint I give you the Leicester-Pool League cup game which was mercifully not cursed with the presence of VAR. The heightened level of anxiety and excitement was palpable. What you saw was what you got. No ” was that offside“ no “was that a foul” …

File this under me not understanding the rules…

Was that always legal by Moura? He came over the back and leveled Anderson on that goal.

Fake edit: Dumb by Zaha…brutal flop but you can’t do that while on a yellow

When you get a yellow for a soft foul on Sanchez, going and giving him a harder foul is not the wisest strategy.

Honestly don’t even think it was that much of a flop by Sanchez. What a stupid clear push while on a yellow.

I was wondering about this too. Often that’s given as a foul but Anderson didn’t help his cause by turtling and not trying to play the ball.

he looked like he was just waiting for the ball rather than getting up for it and it obviously cost him…that said there seemed to be no mention or complaint about Moura when that seemed similar to others I’ve seen called.
Whatever.

With all of the postponements and resulting abundance of officials, there’s no reason for Tierney to be on a pitch.

I went off the deep end and captained Trossard, which somehow worked.

I don't think I've seen Raphael Varane play worse than he did today

More games start today; Spurs play Southampton, both teams on just two days rest. My hamstrings hurt just thinking about it.

Lucas Moura, arguably Spurs best player since Conte took over, on the bench to start the game. Dele gets another chance to either show Tottenham what he can do, or showcase himself to a prospective buyer.
