I haven't been following much the past few weeks, and this was the last I heard of Buksa.
I tuned in last night to find out he was sold last week.
I realize getting $10 million for him is good business and he was going to leave sooner or later, but he is a huge loss to try to deal with in the middle of the season, and I hope they can get a replacement in ASAP.
The Revs found their Buksa replacement and the details are extremely promising. The Revolution finalizing deal to sign Juventus striker Giacomo Vrioni for USD 3.8 million. He tied for the Bundesliga golden boot last season on loan for Tirol. He is an full Albanian national team member who was previous capped for Italy’s youth teams.

Looks like a possible end to the Jozy experiment.

https://theathletic.com/3457901/2022/07/28/jozy-altidore-liga-mx-loan/

Paywalled but:
New England Revolution striker Jozy Altidore is close to joining Liga MX side Puebla on loan through the end of 2022, a source confirmed to The Athletic on Thursday morning.

The news was first reported by Fabrizio Romano. Revs sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena indicated that the deal is close to being completed in a press conference later on Thursday.
The article indicates that it's player-initiated out of a desire for more playing time, and a chance to pot some goals and earn a spot on the World Cup squad.

Is there any realistic scenario where Jozy ends up on the squad?

Is this the Revs doing a favor for a guy that served his national team well? It seems like they’d be better served keeping him for depth.

Rumors are he is not being the world's best teammate about his lack of time, so it appears to be sending out a locker room problem.

I say no. Jozy is done as a high level player. He’s physically broken down and hasn’t showed his previous level in years now.

with the expanded rosters I bet he thinks he might have a shot as a late game sub. I doubt it would come together but it’s his last chance so I can understand his hope.

I think that is the first time I've seen the VAR official call for a check and the field referee decline to overturn. Particularly terrible night for him, I thought. That no call at the end on Gil seemed to be pure vindictiveness because he was staring right at him.

I don't have a link but I saw something about a Lleget to FC Dallas trade, for some TAM or GAM allocation.

I wonder when Omar is going out, given the "give up on national team alums" trend.

Lletget didn't work out, but I thought it was a reasonable bet.

Omar was never a good bet.

So I zoned out for a few months and zoned back in and the Revs suddenly have a bunch of homegrowns who are getting decent minutes off the bench and Rennicks is a starting 9.

How much of this is a legit youth movement bubbling in and how much is just due to injuries, rotation and the sales the Revs have needed to make?

Much more the latter, though that isn't to say these guys might not turn into something.

Absolute horseshit no call led to the corner that led to the goal (basically any touch on a defender goes the other way there 99 percent of the time), but what a second goal for TFC.

It wasn't as bad as some of the stats looked. Revs played five at the back out of possession and were content to absorb tons of pressure the whole game, which they did effectively. They led in xG from open play after all. Scored two kind of soft goals and conceded one on a dubious penalty and one on a goal of the year candidate. A draw seems fair to me.

Would be nice to have Kessler available for Montreal, but you know.

Between the injuries and the midweek game, they never had a chance tonight.

Another laughable VAR moment though in case you stayed til the end!

@67YAZ tonight you get to watch the best young goalkeeper in MLS… and Gaga Slonina!

Anyway, a solid first half by the Revs, but a draw would be hugely disappointing. Revs are on death watch.

That was some ugly football and a point does little for either squad.

Good luck to the Revs - hope you catch some breaks and make a run into the playoffs. Time for Chicago to break in some youth.

xG says Chicago didn’t do much outside of its penalty attempt offensively which feels right. Revs had some chances that they couldn’t finish. It’s just not a talented attack outside of Gil right now with all the injuries.

Slonina is a great shot-stopper and an elite time-waster.

When Slonina went down during stoppage time, Terens & Meola were saying that there’s no way Gaga would waste time because Chicago needs the 3 points. And then Meola said the booing New England fans sound like they get their information form Twitter. So Terens asked Meola if he actually read Twitter, and Meola laughed that he didn’t. I’m going to miss these guys.

Meola had a nice discussion of Gaga’s indecision on a late high cross and how he’ll learn to make better decisions. Half the fun of watching Slonina develop has been listening to Meola call every match and give fans expert insight into what makes Gaga great and how he’s growing. A very lucky match between player and commentator.

I don't know if we have to win out to make the playoffs, but at least it seems clear that three points are required tonight against a bad Houston team.

Yup time to call it. I would say it's been fun, but has it?

Tommy Mac may be one of the dumbest players in MLS, giving away two game-losing penalties in consecutive weeks for no reason at all.

Petrovic is an absolute stud.

With Miami's late winner last night, the Revs have been eliminated from playoff contention with two games to play. From Cup contenders to this in a year.

I probably ought to type out some longer thoughts on this, but this has been one of most disappointing seasons in Revs history (and boy do they have a lot to choose from). Everyone knew it was going to be impossible to replicate 2021; not meeting that standard was to be expected. Last year almost everyone in the regular XI stayed healthy and played the best season of their careers. Furthermore New England had roughly $25 million in outgoing transfers over the next two windows.

That being said, this level of regression was not anticipated. Pretty much none of the incoming players were impactful, except Petrovic who was even better than Turner statistically. Altidore and Gonzalez seemed ill-advised in foresight and downright disastrous with the benefit hindsight.

There were many opportunities for points, and the Revs squandered them. The below list doesn’t event count the travesty on March 16 in Mexico City.

The Revs traded up to select Bobby Wood with the first pick of the second stage of the reentry draft. Presumably they'll get a deal done as New England must have traded some allocation money to get the pick.

We are determined to salvage at least one USMNT striker from the mid-2010s as a useful MLS forward. Maybe it will work this year.

I didn't realize that now every single game is only available on TV through Apple TV+ and the MLS package. No local TV coverage at all.

This won't cost me anything, as I have T-Mobile and just accepted their free MLS package offer.
But I doubt I will watch as much of the Revs this year. In recent seasons, I have automatically recorded all games on YouTube TV and would be reminded when one was on and could catch the game while "flipping channels" and seeing what was on. That won't be happening now. No more stumbling onto games randomly when I forgot the Revs were playing. And so far I can't get the games or even the highlights to play on Apple TV+. Maybe because the game ended just a little while ago? Whatever, annoying.

By the way, the Revs beat Houston 3-0.

You can immediately access the game replay on the AppleTV app, but the current design is terrible so it's very hard to do so without instructions.

1. Go to the main MLS Season Pass screen, scroll to the bottom where it says "Past Matches" and click on the Revs game.

2. Scroll to the bottom of THAT page and find "How To Watch". Click the icon and then click which of the formats (recap, English, Spanish) you want.

I have to imagine they will make the app easier to navigate sooner or later. It's clunky right now.

17-year old Arlington, MA product Noel Buck with two starts now to start the season for the Revs. I interviewed him when he was 15 and signed his first contract; cool to see him climbing the ranks.

Hard for me to see the logic in eliminating all local tv games. I was looking forward to watching my usual 20-30 minutes per game.

To me, the worst thing is I can't take my son to a game until the very finality of the season because there's no games that start outside of the 7:00 p.m. or later slot

I think it's a really bad idea not to have games on locally. My oldest son and I watch a lot of soccer and would always watch the Revs games. And every year we end up going to a couple games to enjoy some games live and soak in the atmosphere (or what serves for atmosphere at Gillette). But this year we haven't watched a single game and feel separated from the action, and likely won't buy any tickets to go see games.

Local ratings in most markets were total trash (basically negligible) and generated zero revenue, so the league wanted to consolidate all games into a single package that they could sell.

Around 40% of the games this year are free on AppleTV, plus the usual number of games on Fox, so if you don't want to pay for the package there will still be plenty of available MLS games and a decent number of free Revs games.

I wish the games were a little more spread out across the weekend — that would give families earlier kickoff times on occasion, and spread out the viewing. But the league has also been trying for more scheduling consistency so people know when to tune in.

I don't really blame the league for shaking things up. The old status quo was not seeing any TV ratings growth.
