JFC. Amazing run by Buchanan, so savvy and strong. And then Gil….pffffttt.

Last night's result with a rotated squad on the road was has real "we're going to win the Supporters Shield" vibes. The Sounders have three games in hand on the Revs; if they win them all, they'll still be five points back.

There's a SIXTEEN POINT GAP at the top of the standings.

Okay, so the Revs have played more games than anyone else in the league, but KC and Seattle aren't going to run the table — and in fact, they are playing each other tomorrow, and again in October. I'll take a draw, please.

Chicago has played better against New England than just about any other squad, except maybe versus RBNY.

That was the largest Revs crowd in my recent memory: 28,414, plus Gillette Stadium was selling Tree House Julius. Conceding that late equalizer was rough, but Seattle lost to last-place Houston, so the Revs inched closer to the shield tonight.

The Sounders drew with Colorado.

The Revs need either a win, or two draws, or for Seattle to not win all four of their remaining games to officially clinch the Supporters Shield. Exciting times! This is the biggest trophy the club has won in 26 years of existence.

I turned this on around the 60 minute mark. The Carles Gil goal was quite nice. The six minutes of stoppage time, that expanded to eight in practice, was a bit much.

SKC just went up 2-1 in Seattle with a little more than ten minutes to play.

The Supporters Shield beckons...

All the western conference truthers told me Seattle was good; I don’t see it. Kelyn Rowe is on the pitch with the Western Conference bye on the line.

Amazing accomplishment, now time to get just the right amount of rest and finally win an MLS Cup too. The (I think) sold out final at Gillette is one of my favorite in-person sports memories, despite the ending. Would love to see something like that again.

I was there! Revs were a crossbar away from maybe changing the entire trajectory of soccer in Boston. I truly wonder whether a the team could have parlayed that championship into a culture of success (mirroring what the Pats were doing) that would have changed the public readiness and incentive to get a city stadium done.

Will be interesting to see how Bruce plays it. Full B squad midweek, maybe, then the starters to close it out on 11/7? Won't play again until 11/30.

Bruce said on the Sports Hub to expect a rotated side for both tonight’s Orlando match and the midweek match against Colorado, then a full strength XI for the season finale. I think that means close to a B squad again for the Rapids, maybe even Knighton too.

If they care they need 3 points in their last 2 games to set an MLS record for most points in a season

Revs rally down 2 goals on the road with 10 minutes to go in Orlando to nab a point. Buksa scores twice. Win the final two at home.
First game I got to watch this season. Revs sat 9 starters until subbing around 45th to 60th minutes. B squad played pretty well and had a few chances.. but they were pretty dominant with more of their starters.. the passing up front was pretty nice.
Nani is a pretty unlikeable nemesis/ fake tough guy who spent more time on the ground in the first half than upright.

The points record is nice-to-have, but I wouldn't go out of my way to prioritize it. The SS is in the bag, now being as prepared as possible for MLS Cup is the #1 priority.

A home game with a full strength lineup to close the season against an Inter Miami team that will probably be eliminated by then seems like a good a shot as any.

I'd put Turner and the Big 3 into bubblewrap until the playoffs start
The first Revs playoff match isn’t until November 25 or 30 (and rumors are pointing towards 11/30*) so that doesn’t seem like a great option. It’s pretty sensible to play the first team XI at least one more time before then.

*Looking at stadium availability, the Revolution cannot host on 11/28 (Patriots) or 12/4 (MIAA) and the Sounders cannot host on 12/5 (Seahawks). Therefore, it looks like the Western Conference semifinal games will be played before the East and Gillette ought to host a semifinal on 11/30.

Is there any history that suggests a five week layoff is bad for players? I ask as I don’t know, but I do understand rust. I just think this team has been quite fortunate injury wise and I’d hate to see an important piece go down in a leaning less game. And I don’t know Bruce Arena beyond reputation, but my guess is he feels winning the Cup is 100x as important as setting points records is.

It’s hard to find precedent for something like that, as the circumstances surrounding meaningless regular season games followed by important single elimination playoff matches is pretty rare outside North America. Liga MX has a similar structure with the regular season ending on the same weekend as MLS, but the top seeds will play no later than 11/25.

A fitting comparison may be Chelsea who had 17 days between their last Premier League match and the Europa League final. They played a friendly at Foxboro and Loftus-Cheek suffered a gruesome injury on the temporary grass surface.

Revs win. We have a new all-time points record.

This team deserves to have more of a buzz around them.

The flag and the musket logo are way better than the one they ended up choosing. I do like the "not another FC" line.

Very irrational take: I hate this so much, even though I've braced myself for it forever. The "Not Another FC" line is exactly what the Revs are and always should be, but it is completely neutered by the immediate reveal of the decidedly Another F.C. crest. The corny-ass name and crayon logo (maybe not the stadium) standing pat all this time have come to define this weird franchise for better or for worse. A decade-plus of Kraft neglect have accidentally let this branding gleefully sail through the uncanny valley from "wildly outdated" into cult status (similar, if inverted, I'd argue, from the goofy Patriot logo becoming iconic due to Kraft-era success).

This rebranding effort (which started no later than 2019 according to the Globe and surely was a low-hanging fruit boardroom decision to pump credibility back to the team) culminating at the end of this historic season, after which I feel like the Revs' shoddy identity has been completely vindicated and re-claimed, just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I know it's a dumb reaction, but this makes us just like everyone else even if we don't have to fight to keep the name.

I mean, look how insane this thing looks in context. That's the kind of brand differentiation you pay a design firm millions to bring you! We have it, almost completely by accident. Boring, easy, undeserved for the team to run away from it once they find some success.

I do feel like this was inevitable and just like Boston City Hall, many fans still hate it to this day and always will, but ah well. I'll pour one out for the crayon.
