Before putting the crayon flag out to pasture, MLS is forcing all American clubs league to wear it as a warmup shirt.

In other news, Carles Gil was named player of the week today, after Matt Turner received the same honor on Monday, which gives me a chance to complain about MLS conflating "match days" with "weeks"
Throwback to the 94 USMNT jersey. I own one of these beautiful monstrosities and am not allowed to wear it around my wife any longer.

Might add that to my 2021 collection along with the much-maligned white away. Important to have shirts from the year they finally win an MLS Cup!
It appears to have already sold out from the online MLS Store. When I checked yesterday evening they were already down to just smalls and larges. The Pro Shop in Foxboro got some, but I already bought to make sure I got one in my size.

If you’re interested in getting MLS apparel, Kellogg’s is running an easy promotion where you can get a $50 gift card for buying 5 Pringles or Cheez-It products.

Revs putting in a sloppy performance on the road, and are currently down 2-1 thanks to a brace from future USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi.

Lot of games in a week, plus the travel, but they looked slow tonight. And I want him to succeed, but Buksa looks horrible (tiredness not an excuse for him).

Not sure how Carles Gil can play the full 90 in that heat and still nutmeg Dallas substitutes.

That was pretty toothless from the Revs attack and yet they could have easily earned a point or three if it were not for some awful defensive play. Jon Bell has graduated from Revs II and has earned Arena’s trust at left center back, but he had a rough night. Farrell is probably a below average right center back in MLS, but I don’t think Arena trusts anyone else there. I feel like that’s a big potential liability come the fall, unless he wants to experiment with a Kessler-Bell combo.

Also, I thought it was bold for Dallas to start parking the bus with about 20 minutes left, but it was pretty effective. The Revs didn’t have any stellar chances after falling behind 2-1.

The Revs signed Noel Buck to a USL contract. He has been playing regularly for the reserve team in USL League One this year and has reportedly been doing well, though I haven't watched any of the games. I know he's scored some goals.

Buck is a young midfielder — an '05 who just turned 16 in April — from Arlington (also home of USMNT hopeful Miles Robinson).

So I work a newspaper reporter in the metro area, specifically covering Arlington. A month ago when you shared the Hikaru Fujiwara news I passed it on to my colleague who covers Lexington, and he interviewed Fujiwara. At the time I remember saying "I wish they would sign someone from Arlington" so I could do the interview. So a month later, my main source for stories, Titan's Bastard, let me know that they DID sign an Arlington kid.

I spoke with Noel on Friday, very impressive interview for a 16 year old.

Nice story! I think a strong academy is a good way for a club to establish a deeper connection with the local community. The Revs academy has been living off Diego Fagundez for a long time, who signed over ten years ago, so hopefully the pipeline flows more steadily going forward.

This new Crew stadium looks good on TV. Hopefully the Revs can ruin the moment for Columbus fans.

2-0 via Bou. Revs definitely not dominating the game, but I'll take it.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an own goal quite like that before, but it seems spiritually appropriate that Gyasi Zardes was there in the middle of it.

Outplayed, but to cough up a two goal lead - especially on those goals - leaves me feeling very unsatisfied with the road point.

Well that was easy enough. Buksa looked the best he's been in a while, but still didn't score. Gap between Turner and Knighton is enormous. That will be something that needs to be fixed whenever Turner goes to Europe. Defense still scary even against a totally toothless Atlanta team. Ho hum, best team in the East.

With Kessler gone and another midweek game, I expect Revs B tonight against Miami. Maybe we can outscore them?
Jon Bell and Andrew Farrell are a perfectly cromulent MLS center back pairing and they’ve played a handful of matches together already, so I’m not seriously worried there. Knighton is a solid backup.

I haven’t had a chance to watch the Atlanta match yet, but Bruce finally tried to get Bou and Buksa on the pitch at the same time, so I’m not sure how effective they were. I’ve always thought all three DPs starting was the key to unlocking their full offensive potential; I hope to see them together again tonight. Arena has promised a lot of rotation in the midfield.

You're more optimistic than me. I feel like Bell had looked a bit lost before losing his spot, and Farrell (whom I have liked a lot in the past) has perhaps never looked worse. And Knighton gives me no confidence either.

But I do love the front three when they're on, so I hope we see them again too.

The lineup is out and the Revs have decided to rotate out their starting fullbacks, with Mafla and DeLaGarza replacing Jones and Bye respectively, so my concern level is definitely rising. They’ve combined for roughly 120 minutes of action thus far, and DeLaGarza is starting opposite his preferred left-side position.

Concern levels have somewhat declined.

The plucky Revs are certainly holding their own on the road against the team with the biggest payroll in the league (lol).

Safe to say your concerns about the defense turned out to be unfounded.

Wow, I’ve honestly thought the Revs defense has looked just OK, but shaky at times and Knighton’s distribution has been mediocre, but it hardly matters against humid FC Cincinnati. Rodolfo Pizarro should leave for Mexico at halftime.

Traustason has looked great playing a little more centrally in Bruce’s 4-4-2 diamond, although that may be too aggressive against a competent opponent.

Perhaps speaking too soon on this specific injury, but soccer needs to figure out head injuries. Buksa basically punched (inadvertently) in the face going for a header and is allowed to return. Shortly after that he asks out, pointing to his head and face. Scary stuff.

Hopefully just his nose, but tough to see him being allowed to come back on the field in the first place.

A nine-point week without Turner, Buchanan, and Kessler (for two matches) is pretty damn impressive. Back on top of the shield standings.

Well, well, well. Two late goals from the Revs to snag three points on the road. Adam Buksa finally gets his reward after hitting the woodwork twice. Four straight wins, all without Turner and Buchanan.

Buchanan won young player of the tournament and Turner got the golden gloves. It seems absurd they’ve won four straight without either of them.

Oof. Bright side is he's going to get some much-needed rest, but that's a big hit to the Shield race, and probably dooms his chances at the assist record.

This sounds more like "interest" being blown out of proportion; I doubt anything will happen this summer and I'm skeptical anything will happen in the winter. But it sure does feel like many, many more clubs are paying attention to what's happening in this league.

You can add DeJuan Jones to the list of Americans drawing interest from abroad, with sources telling SBI that a pair of German Bundesliga clubs have expressed interest in Jones, along with teams from Belgium and Greece.

The interest in Jones has yet to reach the level where formal offers have been presented to New England, but bids could be delivered in the coming days.

They're coming for Tajon. The Revs are correct to reject a lowball $3.5m offer, but it might be tough to hold onto him after this winter.

View: https://twitter.com/tombogert/status/1416476174314835971
And indeed, we're now talking about an offer 2x as big. Tajon's rip-roaring Gold Cup performance certainly didn't hurt.

As expected, there's no way the Revs will let him go until after the 2021 season.

That’s a fair price for Buchanan, and that sets him up well to be involved in Canada’s fall octogon matches.
Hope no one was using this game to try to get somebody into Revolution soccer or MLS. What a snooze.
Every Nashville match is like that, I have no idea how their supports keep watching their games. Full credit though for to sticking to a strategy and they’re already miles ahead of their expansion cohorts such as Miami.

Relatively easy money last night, but boy is it nice to have Turner back, and good luck to Jim Curtain and his boys on Thursday night. It shouldn't be a surprise given how great he is, but the difference between the team with Gil to distribute and without him is amazing.

Glad things are going the way they are because I'm not in a position anymore to take a cross-country flight on no notice to go to an MLS Cup. Keep it local.
