So the Fire need to practice defending throw ins, that much is clear.

That could go either way, but I’d prefer the ref to stick with his original call.

Disappointed to blow a 2 goal lead, but still happy to get out with a point. New England and Chicago don’t meet again for 6 months, but then twice in 2 weeks (Oct 16 & 31). Until then, friends.

I think both sides should be be happy/relieved to get a point. I think it’s fair to say New England had the biggest missed chance of the match (Kizza’s header) but also scored the flukiest goal (Chicago loosing Buchanan on a throw-in leading to Bou’s goal). A draw is the "fair" result.

I think most of New England’s problems are fixable. Obviously the back four had an atrocious opening quarter hour, but did seem to improve as the match went on. Matt Turner will also hide many inadequacies there.

The attack was pretty good once Gil and Buchanan switched sides, although I’m not convinced about Gil as a wide player. I think you want his MLS Best XI-level talent in the middle of the pitch.

The holding midfielders were mediocre. Tommy Mac isn’t a starting caliber player at this point in his career, but should be behind Kaptoum and Caciedo once those two are healthy.

This is something that I've been really keyed into. The Revs have lots of okay CMs. Hopefully Kaptoum can be better than okay, but he's still an unknown. I noticed that Arena said that Maciel would have started if he had been available, so it's interesting to see him a bit higher in the depth chart than I might have expected.

I’ll also add Matt Polster’s name to that list. He’s been mostly fine, but he went to Europe based on his talent at right back. His play in the midfield has been somewhat disappointing, considering expectations. Not helping matters is Arena’s insistence on starting two holding midfielders ever since Michael Bradley was hung out to dry as the 6 in Couva.

Fun aspect of the Revs' win yesterday: Matt Turner had noticed that Carles Gil had taken too many penalties down the middle lately and told him to mix it up. Sure enough, the Revs win a penalty, Gil goes to the corner this time, and Guzan chose to stay in the middle instead of diving.

Great stuff from Turner, coming into the match he had saved three straight penalties for club and country, so his scouting must be impressive. He also guessed correctly on Moreno’s PK, but it was very well taken.

I’m not sure why Atlanta used such heavy squad rotation against an eastern conference opponent with an irrelevant midweek game upcoming. When they came out of halftime still tied, Heinze was really aggressive with substitutions, which really bit them when Barco came off injured.

I said earlier that the Revs were better when Carles Gil played as a 10, and I feel a little vindicated by his performance last night. I’m not sure how that’ll work when Bou is back though.

What a horse shit no call on fouling Turner that led to the equalizer.
I don't understand how the VAR official doesn't call the red over to look at it. That was a clear elbow to the face of the goalkeeper as Turner is reaching for the ball. Even the Premier league officials would have called for a review there...

Arena's main strength of "knowing the league" has really paid off so far. The Revs have spent more in recent years, but most importantly the talent they are acquiring (mainly Bou, Gil and Buksa) have all delivered and some solid player development in guys like Tajon Buchanan have completely reshaped the team into what appears to be a legit title contender.

He was already a USL-1 regular, so I assume this just closes down the NCAA path to him?
Yes, exactly. Same with Colby Quiñones (Bedford, NH) who signed a USL deal over the offseason.

Revolutions are up 2-1 in the 82nd minute and Red Bull NY are down to 10 men. Have got to see this out, period.

Dominant win against NYRB (a man up, but no one told Reyes to be an idiot), then this announcement, then a game against Cincinnati this weekend. Good week in Revs land.

That was a fairly dominant win against an overmatched opponent. The Revs attempted 21 first half shots. Cincinnati really didn’t get anything going until they had to chase the match down 1-0.

Finishing is still a concern. Adam Buksa finally broke through, but he also had some awful first touches on crosses that could have led to scoring chances.

Bold strategy scheduling them against the UCL final. Though I guess against the Bruins would have been subpar as well.
That’s was pretty darn annoying. Even staggering the matches by an hour or so would have been appreciated

Hard to tell really, my guess is that the logo references the stamp act/intolerable acts, which is pretty cool I guess. I kind of like the current logo but that might be just do to familiarity.

The best thing they have done is really push the New England flag to represent the Revs. That shit is cool.

Love it

edit - I wonder if this means they’re adopting the sash as a permanent kit component. I’m definitely an advocate for that.

The designer of the new logo has taken down the webpage explaining its origins, as well as demonstrating uses for the new designs, but you can still view the Google cache version.

I like it for the most part, and I already liked the other design elements introduced, especially the typeface. I don’t love it though, and I’m going to miss the flag. The R gives me strong Flamengo vibes and I honestly think the letter mark could be better on its on. The sash is a neat callback to the 1996 uniforms.I’m glad we’re not dropping the name or appending SC or some crap.

Hah, I just remarked on Twitter that despite everyone saying it reminded them of Rangers, I was seeing the Flamengo R. Then I clicked on this thread. Great minds.

I agree with your perspective on the logo.

The Revs signed Noel Buck to a USL contract. He has been playing regularly for the reserve team in USL League One this year and has reportedly been doing well, though I haven't watched any of the games. I know he's scored some goals.

Buck is a young midfielder — an '05 who just turned 16 in April — from Arlington (also home of USMNT hopeful Miles Robinson).

3-0 from Bou on a breakaway. The Revs are on their way to the top of the Supporters Shield table, at least until Seattle plays tonight.

Might add that to my 2021 collection along with the much-maligned white away. Important to have shirts from the year they finally win an MLS Cup!
