There are threads for the 2018 players, Cora and Dombrowkski. How about a thread for Henry and Werner. Although the Red Sox were always an "historic" franchise before they got here, the franchise had not been part of baseball royalty for close to 100 years. I think that this 2018 season is the culmination of ownership's efforts to get the franchise back to where it belongs. They've done it in a myriad of ways since they took over, and it's resulted in a golden age of Red Sox baseball.

The ownership group sometimes takes a lot of criticism from here and elsewhere, and in some cases it is deserved. But they've invested in high caliber talent in both the front office and the field, and it's paid off with 4 titles in 14 years. Those 4 titles are not a result of "getting lucky".

Posted this in another thread, but this ownership group is 16-3 in World Series games.

I think the only one that can even qualify as "getting lucky" from a roster standpoint was 2013, where every single signing worked.

If you're counting, that's more complete World Series WINS than individual game losses.

Not trying to get off topic, but these guys (at least Henry - not sure who else is with FSG) are also responsible for Liverpool's resurgence. They are good at this.

I’ve never understood the amount of shit the owners get here. The results, even before this year, are what they are, and those criticizing individual decisions forget that they only know part of the story.

I’m a lawyer and have been involved in cases that have gotten media attention at certain times during my 30 plus year career. What I’m struck every time by is how little of the actual story the media ever gets right. Every article is partially right but missing facts or points of emphasis that change the whole calculus.

I will give one example as it pertains to the Sox and I hope we don’t bog down in it. There’s a narrative that’s taken as gospel that Lester left because he was lowballed and offended by same. That might be true. But there are so many facts about what actually happened — the course of negotiations primarily — that are not known. And it also presumes that Lester was not represented by experienced people who would have told him that opening low ball offers happen every day and are not worth getting offended over, which is the real world. The point is that there’s so much more to every story that we don’t know and developing hard like views based on only pieces of information seems silly to me.

I get it, they inflicted Bobby V on us and one can list other supposed mistakes and transgressions.

But for me, it comes down to performance. And I do love Fenway and am glad they have kept it and improved it.

In the great One Day at Fenway, which was written after the Grady Boner game, the author observed at the end that this ownership group was different and would bring a title to Boston. And perhaps multiple titles. Prescient. And based on up close observation of this group (and of course Larry and Theo).

Thanks, owners.

The ownership team should at the very least be given credit for recognizing mistakes and changing their approach when warranted.

They traded Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl 'bleepin' Crawford, and, oh yeah, Nick Punto when they realized the roster and payroll needed a big reset. They parted ways with their preferred hire of Valentine when it was clear he was not going to work in Boston. When they realized the Lucchino/Cherington dynamic wasn't working, they brought in Dombrowski to run the show, and gave him free reign to run the team. These are the types of things you want owners to do.

Although they lost their first two closers for the year and Miller for the playoffs. It wasn't all good luck.

To expand upon this - I have to think that Henry and Werner must have realized at some point post-2011 that things never should have gotten to the point of Theo Epstein having to leave the Red Sox organization the way he did. They likely realized that they need to give the right baseball executive the leeway to run the team without interference, and then when they realized that Ben Cherington wasn't their guy, moved aggressively to get Dombrowski as soon as he became available.

Kudos also to them for hiring Janet Marie Smith to redesign parts of Fenway. While there are certainly some sections of the park that are less favorable to sit in, she & they added alot to the comfort around the park which make it an enjoyable and still historic place to visit.
