Help me disable the crappy "lightbox"

Part of the draw of SoSH is saving posted pictures of scantily clad females (and recently-deceased Massachusetts-born ballplayers) to my hard drive. Unfortunately, there are stupid a-holes on this earth seeking to make that task more difficult for no reason whatsoever.

Here's what I get when I right-click a posted SoSH image in Chrome:

Which works great. Image saved, and I can move on.

But here's what I get when right-clicking in Firefox (and Pale Moon):

I don't know why Chrome blocks it, but I'm going to assume this feature has somehow been added to the ProBoards software. Because there's no way any rational human being involved with operating this community could ever think to themselves, "Hey, I've got a GREAT idea for SoSH!!! And here it is!!"

This atrocity is similar to the "Theater" pop-up on Facebook. The lights dim, the image pops out. And it's garbage. Thankfully, there's a utility (Social Fixer) that kills it on FB.

When I click on "SAVE", it merely opens the image in another tab. I can save from there, but this whole thing creates multiple needless extra steps: I have to right click on the image again and choose my option. Once saved, I have to close the new tab. Then I need to navigate back to the SoSH tab. Finally, I have to manually close the theater photo window by either clicking CLOSE or hitting my ESC key. It's not just intrusive. it's visually and functionally obnoxious.

I can suppress this by disabling javascript, but then there's a warning at the top of the page telling me a number of functions here will no longer work. I have no idea what those are, so I'd rather be able to kill this feature inherently with a GreaseMonkey script or a Windows 7 config change. Or with a simpler solution if one exists.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

EDIT - Before anyone suggests I just use Chrome, here's why that's no longer an option. I'm a Pale Moon convert, and Couperin47 is my David Koresh.

As I mentioned a couple of times in that thread, it's badly misnamed; there are still multiple ways (approved by Google) to install 3rd party extensions. Allowing the page to override the right-click menu is a much bigger browser problem than making the extension system more secure at the expense of a little trickier config for unapproved extensions.

You can halfway solve this in Firefox (might work in Palemoon, too, I'm not sure):
1. Go to the URL "about:config"
2. Search for "dom.event.contextmenu.enabled"
3. Double-click on the value to set it to false.

Be that as it may, I'm done with Chrome. I'm not about to search for the "multiple ways" to install each of the numerous extensions I was using. Pale Moon has versions for most of them.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work in Pale Moon -- or in Firefox.

I tested it in firefox before posting. It makes the menu pop up with the option to save as, but still displays the light box as well--that's why I said it only halfway solves it.

Are you not finding the option in Firefox, or is it failing to function? The URL is just "about:config" (no http or anything):

(You want it to be "False", so double-click if it says "True").

That's exactly what I did. No dice, even after closing and re-opening the browser.

After the lightbox opens, if I right-click on it the drop-down menu appears. But there's no option listed to save the image -- just the whole page. Same as before.

I want to find whoever added this thing, and bludgeon them with a brick like Andy Dufresne whacking the sewer pipe in Shawshank.

Try this:

1. Complain on the board about lightbox
2. Get a geek interested enough to dig around, find the setting, and disable it entirely across the site.

If you right-click on the "Save" icon at the bottom of the lightbox, there's an option to "Save Link As" which bypasses the step of left-clicking and having the image open in a new window/tab.  The key is choosing to save the link and not save the image, otherwise you end up with a copy of the save icon on your hard drive.

I take it you're not interested enough.

Along with a central oft-noted mantra ("People are douchebags"), my general outlook on life has boiled down to two other basic tenets:

1) If there's something SumnerH doesn't know about then it doesn't exist.
2) If there's a problem SumnerH can't resolve then there is no solution.

Hence, this is a soul-crushing development, destined to compound my despondence to benthic depths.

I'll rephrase my last post: lightbox should now be turned off across the site.

EDIT: As always, that assumes you're using the default skin, SOSH BLUE. Any of the other skins, who knows (in practice the SOSH RED one is usually pretty safe, the others are more of a crapshoot).

Holy crap. I had to step out for a while so I just saw this. Thanks a pantload, Mr. Hayes.

I can confirm that Sumner's tweak seems to be working perfectly with my preferred setup for Palemoon x64: I'm not seeing any lightbox and the menu has direct options to sensibly save the graphic.
Using Classic Compact 24.0.2 in Apperance and the related Classic Compact Options 24.0.2 extension to configure in excruciating detail the specifics of that skin. Kudos !
