It would have been awesome to get both PG and Hayward, but if we could only get one of them this offseason this was the right piece given cost. Sets them up perfectly with a building block for the near and long term (especially if IT isn't re-signed).

It was such a tough decision. But there was one person who I knew I could talk to about it from every angle, who I knew would give me the smartest and most honest perspective available: Coach Stevens.
Yeah, lazy narrative overrated etc etc etc lol

What’s crazy is — before I even had a chance to make my decision, before I had a chance to sit down and write this, and before I even had a chance to talk about it with the people I love — I was already reading reports about where I was going. And I guess that’s just the way things work, in 2017. But I’m sorry it had to work out like that.

Slow waaaay down. This Hayward could be the same guy that leaked the information earlier today and this could all get walked back again momentarily. At the very least I'd like to hear from the agent, or a named Boston or Utah source.

He is exactly the guy who will make the Celts awesome. If Horford was the best FA signing ever last year this surpasses that by orders of magnitude.

With Gordon Hayward now agreeing to a four-year $127M max contract, Celtics management now has a series of transactions to do in order to create cap space. The Celtics would have to pull the qualifying offer on Kelly Olynyk, renounce free agents Jonas Jerebko, James Young, Gerald Green and waive the contracts of Jordan Mickey and Demetrius Jackson (or trade). The Celtics would be left with $27.6M in room and likely need to move the contract of Jae Crowder, Terry Rozier or Marcus Smart. Trading Rozier would have the Celtics short $1M of a max salary a lot.

Maybe the hold up was Hayward saying he'll take $1mil less this year so they can keep everyone by just moving Rozier. Wishful thinking.

Seems like Stevens definitely played a roll if his statement closes with this:

"And of course, there was Coach Stevens: Not just for the relationship that we’ve built off the court — but also for the one that we started building on the court, all of those years ago, in Indiana. And that unfinished business we had together, back in 2010, when I left Butler for the NBA … as far as I’m concerned, all of these years later, we still have it: And that’s to win a championship."

Remember when some in this thread were arguing Stevens wasn't a factor in Hayward's decision because Spoelstra was also a good coach? LOL
Anyone questioning Stevens was very, very wrong. Half the piece was devoted to him.
