Really hope this doesn't become a defining story on the fake news movement. I'm curious if espn hacks like Haynes have free reign from the company to tweet instantly or have to clear it with staff?

Blakely typed that story up 5 minutes after he spoke to the agent who said no decision has been made?
The story was written earlier, the tweet saying "Finally, fireworks - #Celtics get their man in Gordon Hayward" was put up 5 minutes after Blakely tweeted about speaking with Hayward's agent. Take it for what it's worth.

Yeah starting to get a little annoyed at Hayward - sounds like he just needs to make a choice and be done with it.

But if he signs with Boston all is forgiven :)

I hate to say this but logic dictates that if it really is this hard of a choice, he should stick with his present place of employment. I would never leave a job unless I was totally convinced my new place of employment was much better for me. The grass is not always greener.

Color me worried that Hayward will lock in on this way of thinking and stay.

Hope I am wrong.

Chris Haynes now reporting that I am not drinking myself into a coma today trying to follow this.

Wrong again, Chris!
Beautiful. My sources indicate a similar plan for myself today, but still trying to think it over with family and friends before coming into a final decision vis a vis a drunken stupor.

That's probably right. I liked him taking the night to think and get some distance from the Jazz pitch. But the longer it goes...

"Agent saying it may take another day" according to NBA TV announcers
I'm still lost on why the possible leak would change his actual decision.

If this is the "biggest decision of his life" why would a league source leaking it change where you want to spend your professional future?

I get being pissed at the leaker, but it shouldn't change the calculus. Because if it does, then the 3 day tour with Miami, Boston, and Utah was for nothing anyway.

I want the guy, but sack the fuck up dude. Take control.

Here
This is dumb if it goes another day. It clearly seems they were setting up an announcement on Facebook and the agent all but confirmed it. So because they got scooped they're gonna extend it out? Just say it.

Though if the leak was bullshit and he hadn't made a decision yet maybe he wants to take more time because now he's pissed off about it and doesn't want it to effect his final decision.

Best take I saw is that he has decided, but because he hadn't called Utah before the leak, he's slow playing it to save face with Utah.

This is so poorly organized.

You make the calls in the proper order and when you hang up on the final call you announce knowing you only have minutes to own your moment.

It's not supposed to be this difficult. He may need a more competent agent.

Danny's trying to extract a protected second round pick to come over with Hayward.

But seriously, this makes the most sense.
It doesn't make much sense to me. The signing can't be done until the 6th anyway, and the Celtics have no guarantee deadlines before then to worry about now that Zeller is cut, so no reason not to announce where he's signing. For comparison look at Millsap, announced signing, now might get rolled into a sign and trade, since nothing is binding until 6th, no reason to worry.
Also doesn't match with a ton of reports from both teams and Hayward's camp that he hasn't informed any team as to his decision.

Or he needs to not have people in his inner circle looking to curry favor by leaking. And again you assume that he
1. made calls (which his agent, the Jazz and the Celtics all say he didn't)
2. He had in fact made a final decision, not just said he was leaning one way and someone in his circle leaked it to curry favor elsewhere.

What the hell is going on here? Hayward doesn't need to wait for some minor trade to state his intentions. He really might be in the process of changing his mind

I don't know if this is on his agent or Hayward himself. The agent could very well have said "hey don't tell ANYONE until we inform the teams" but Hayward felt bad and told family, or his trainer, or whatever.

Then when the story broke the agent might have said "ok we have to announce now" but Hayward started hemming and hawing.
