I remember the dread I felt when the 2017 Yankees surprised everyone by pushing the Astros to 7 games in the ALCS. I feared that Judge and Sanchez would lead the MFY's to at least a couple of titles, if not more. Amazing to look back and realize that the '17 run would end up being the highlight of the 'Baby Bombers' era, and that our Red Sox would actually end their season two more times and claim another trophy along the way.

Happy YED, everyone!

Happy YED everyone.......aside from Christmas, this is BY FAR my favorite holiday.

And a four game sweep to boot; later today, we'll sit under the YED tree, open our gifts, sing YED carols then have a nice sit down YED dinner with friends and family.

i know a lot of you don't celebrate as traditionally as we do, but this has been something my family and I have been doing for a long time, call us old fashioned, but we enjoy the shit out of it.

Can't wait; wishing all of you a Happy YED!!

I know I’m one of the biggest “October is chaos and don’t read too much into it” people here, but for the record, in 36 innings against Houston:
NY: 9 RS, 18 RA
SEA: 9 RS, 13 RA

I didn't think I could love Pedro more.

HAPPY YANKEE ELIMINATION DAY.

Eat shit, Yankees players, coaches, management, employees and fans.

I'm off to watch the YES post game show. Sports porn at its finest.

I guess 4.66 billion doesn't buy what it used to.

You know; back when teams used to shit their pants at the sight of NY on the cap and those dapper pinstripes.
I thought it had already cleared 5 billion. Guess we have to wait two more years for that.

“We’ll get ‘em next year” was also the battle cry of the Dodgers Boys of Summer (Robinson, Snider, Hodges, Campanella, Reese, etc.) way back. They finally beat the Yankees in the World Series in 1955, after losing five straight, all to the Yankees, starting in 1941. The Dodgers however were considered lovable losers, or almost got theres. Come to think of it, we Red Sox fans used that “We’ll get ‘em next year” quote year after year until 2004.

He will 100% get canned. 99 wins…all that talent and swept in the ALCS, and he’s so many years in with no title. He’s gone.
Roberts has to go before him in a just world, right? Lone win was in a bastardized season. Better talent than NYY. Ownership willing to spend even more than The Boss' offspring.

When I was at Game 7 in 2004 (humblebrag) Frank came on after the last out and I remember my dad and I thought it was a mistake.
Can confirm. One of the highlights of the broadcast after the final out was McCarver saying "Start Spreading The News!"

I would like to respectfully submit that you are clinically insane. (No offense meant.)
None taken! To explain myself, I really do not want to see the Astros take home a title and would vastly prefer Philly to win it. To the extent to which the Astros could be sent to the World Series utterly gassed I'd have been down for that. But only if the outcome is set -- in reality I couldn't ever root for something that could risk the Yankees having a shot.

(Also I think it's more fun when fans really hate their rivals, short of causing actual harm of course. I despise factionalism, but factionalism is part of human nature and I think sports fandom is a great way to get that urge out in a harmless way. The more exaggerated the better so long as it doesn't spill out into actual real life interactions.)

It is now the trend that losing teams reveal their injuries.
I need a clip of this!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailey–Johnson_150-metre_race

On 1 August 1996, the night of Johnson's 200 m Olympic win, the host of NBC's Olympics coverage Bob Costas stated on-air that Johnson's gold-medal performance in the 200 m (19.32 seconds) was faster than Bailey's 100 m performance (9.84 seconds) five days earlier in that 19.32 divided by two is 9.66

I’m confused. If the knock against Roberts is his playoff performance, then why does the 2020 season not count? The playoffs functioned the same way that year - actually, there was an additional round he had to navigate (not unlike this year’s model), meaning there was one more chance for some randomness or alleged bad managing to derail the season. Is it your position that something about the 162-game season prevents him from managing well in October that was irrelevant after the 60-game season?

It's been a hockey thing for a long time, I'm sure you know, but Cortes has had issues with his groin since August. He went on the IL for a few weeks for it.
I am sure he was hurt. It was at one time people didn't admit it. Now agents, etc, get the news out a guy was hurt. Tatum did it for the Celtics. Price did it when he pitched poorly for the Sox. It is just an observation, but at times (KD, Kyrie) it is blatantly used as an excuse. It seems here the players did not want to talk about it.

Was this around the time Cashman called the Yankees a “fully operational Death Star”?

Much like Easter, the date of YED rotates within a ~6 week period of the year, results in a lot of prayers being answered, involves some poor schlubs publicly sacrificed for the sins of others, and symbolically represents the final triumph of life over death.

Hallelujah, amen.

GROIN LOCK needs to be Nestor’s sosh nickname from here on out.
I'd actually prefer that GROIN LOCK refer to any 3-run homer given up by a Yankee.

1. More opportunity to use it
2. I kinda like Nestor

edit 3. Would be enjoyable to scroll through a full gamethread page of GROIN LOCK!!! whenever the Yankees give up a 3-run HR
