I hate to be a downer, but I'm having a hard time getting excited for this season. The fact that sports are just plowing along in the midst of this pandemic is a great example of how off the USA's priorities have been. That said, I'm also thinking that I need to take fun and something to look forward to where I can find it -- so I'll watch some games and hope that everyone involved with the teams stays healthy.

Sports have been "plowing along" in pretty much every other country too.

True. Most other countries have done a much better job containing things, too.
EDIT: I also realize that this is not where we need to be discussing sports in the context of COVID, so I'll shut up about that now.

Conversely, I'm more excited about this Truck Day than I have been in a while. This is a big symbolic part of putting 2020 in the review, for me.

Same.
Last year was a disaster (big understatement and "fucking duh!!!") but just regarding the Sox, there's so many things to be excited about this year. Can't even begin to count them all but I'm hoping it doesn't take Devers 5 weeks to uncork himself in '21.

I like this non-pessimistic viewpoint, both to the world at large as well as the baseball season.

If @amh03 doesn't take a picture of it, does it really head south?
I remember that being @sittingstill but I haven't seen her around much lately.
I have lost my enthusiasm about the upcoming season. Maybe it will come back---especially if JBJ would resign.
Lol - thanks @Lose Remerswaal!!

Both @sittingstill & I used to cover it back in the day (and a few other SoSHers I believe)...I do miss those days of pure innocence before it really became a “thing”.

Haven’t gone in years, but I can share the pic below from maybe 10 years ago...

I love Truck Day. I love baseball. And I especially love the Red Sox. There will never be a Red Sox season that I'm not excited for. It's awesome when they win, but it's also okay if they don't. It's just always a better day for me when there is a Sox game on.
Ever since 1967 when I sat in the bleachers behind the bullpen, I have been utterly and completely sold. I have more angst than BMHH when they lose, but that has always been the case, even during the long droughts of mediocrity. The last 17 years have been something else again and it is more difficult to endure mediocrity these days. However, the scintillating game that baseball is brings me joy, no matter what. Watching the kids grow up and some of them become stars is always special. The nuances of the game have been heightened by the analysis here and I will always retain hope every year, that this year is The Year, again.

This expresses how I feel perfectly. I LOVE baseball and this season, more than almost any other, I NEED baseball. 8 days until pitchers and catchers!

Agreed.
I love Baseball, and I love the Red Sox. Neither of those things are ever changing.

I cannot wait for the season to start. The Red Sox have been a large, if not the largest part of my life for as long as I can remember. Sure, there have been years where I have paid more attention to the Patriots, or recently the Bruins, but my first and forever favorite sport is baseball, and the Red Sox will always be my favorite of all the Boston teams. I have not even lived in MA since 1986, when my terrible, awful Yankee loving parents moved us to the craphole that is NJ. Still, I suppose they deserve some kudos for allowing us as kids to watch the Sox on WSBK-38 and taking us to McCoy and Fenway, while silently snickering at all of the crushing defeats that happened up until 2004. However, in a turn of events, my father has been beaten into submission from 2004 on - so much so, that I even had him with me at the 2013 and 2018 World Series in Fenway, dressed in Sox gear. He is a far better man than me - I would never wear a single piece of Yankee gear no matter how much my kid loved them (assuming I even talked to my stupid Yankee loving kid).

Sensational tale, thanks for posting it. The ultimate truck day was the one with the truck leaving Fenway in a snowstorm.

I sent my 14 year old daughter a text yesterday of nothing but "Happy Truck Day!" for her to see after school and was rewarded with a response of "19 days to spring training". The season can't start soon enough. Baseball is such a huge portion of my life - and the Red Sox the dominant thread through that - that I miss it during the off season. When covid first starting to be a thing last year and Spring Training got cancelled, then the season was pushed back, I found myself sliding back into my depressive states more easily and more often (I'm Bipolar 2). The rhythm of the baseball season was missing and it took me a while to realize that. Even with the abbreviated and weird season I probably watched more non-Sox games than usual to make up for the lost time.

When I first found SoSH in 03 it gave me a place to read, write, and talk baseball year round. The annual threads for Truck Day became as important as a sign of the new year as @BoSoxLady 's posting of Green Fields of the Mind to close it out. The real spring is here now and I'm ready to break out the Tek home jersey I've worn on Opening Day every year since 2005.

I didn't know how I'd feel when the bastardized 2020 season started amid a raging pandemic and other nonsense. But as it turned out, a day with a Sox game *was* better than a day without one. Even in 2020. And even with the 2020 Red Sox. And the fact that the post season was in October may have been one of the first externally "normal" things that helped stop my head from spinning a bit. So let's get on with this. I know how things look, but as the late philosopher Joaquin Andujar frequently reminded us, "youneverknow."

Ah yes, I remember being young and enthusiastic enough to go over there.

These are from 2007, where we met The Dentist and my friend got to try on his World Series ring:

I always tried to get the small details, but @amh03 totally clobbered me on the big shots like this.

I haven't gone in a while--had a job change that took me out for four years and while I could have gone since then I guess my photo mojo was lacking even if my love for Truck Day remains. Had to give the galleries their own folder! I'll reminisce with the time Pesky almost took off with the truck...

I do love it--even the corny aspects of it. The loading of the vacuum cleaners that apparently can't just be purchased in duplicate (never mind the bubble gum that couldn't just... be shipped there in the first place?) brings joy to my heart. It's nice to have something normal happen, even if none of the minor league teams have an Opening Day confirmed yet.

Yet the post is still there.
You could edit it out and remove it.
I don't think my viewpoint on Truck Day this year warrants editing, even if it's not a popular one. I'm not going to derail the conversation further by talking about such things, but my experience is just as valid as anyone else's.

Per this article, we have the first sighting of a "best shape of my career" quote! Hope springs eternal! Rather than continuing discussion in the ramp up to P&Cs in the Truck Day thread, can somebody start a Spring Training thread?

I appreciate that you found the first one
Heck, it may even be true, since he's only 27

"I've gotten stronger this offseason," he said. "I feel like physically I'm probably in the best shape I have been in throughout my career. I'm doing really well."
