This Liverpool team is at a crazy crossroads. They got here with scouting and moneyball tactics then switched to adding big money signings. That worked great to fill in the gaps but we seem to be back at a stage where we need to revamp the whole squad. They unfortunately have moved on from scouting/moneyball yet don’t have the budget to play with the financial big boys. So FSG needs to do something. Either rebuild from grassroots, step up with some money or sell the team. Lettting them go back to mid table just to be cash cow is going to be super ugly.
this is spot on and the best summation I’ve seen.
unfortunately this is the world now. FSG are receding to the PL upper half which is still better than the rest of the footy world but-
If there are going to be petrodollar clubs, everyone else will be playing to snatch something off the table.
PSG, City, increasingly apparently Newcastle, maybe Chelsea, maybe El Clasico but they have debt issues, are able to dictate. MU and Arsenal happen to be cycling high on the American debt-laden owner hitting in the right coach strategy but structurally they’re closer to LFC than City. Brighton Brentford and maybe Fulham (??) are riding high on the sound-organization and execution path but “hire someone who knows what they’re doing” is not easy.
Other than their brand - which is a huge $$ pot but becomes pressure on the players snd manager week in week out performance is not commensurate, as we saw at Utd in the Ole era- LFC have no advantage over the PL middle that can’t be lost.
