Really? Wow. I didn't know he was that close to the ax.

No denying that he hasn't got this group to gel. Less than the sum of their parts. Havertz and Werner looking like maybe not the best use of funds.

But is this the time to be moving for a replacement? Sam has just been snapped up :)
I still thought he had some grace but was still under pressure. He did the right thing by talking down the earlier positive results and drawing on that in his more recent interviews. Work in progress etc.

I never thought, nor am i totally convinced he's so close to the sack as some are suggesting. But damn, if he is.

Tuchel looking to add to his Gulf oil money with some Russian oil money?

If it happens, I do feel a bit for Frank. He needed much more than a single season at Derby to be ready for the top-6 knife fight. There might yet be an excellent manager in him, hope he can find a supportive club to help him grow into it.

This is why Stevie G going to Rangers was a good (but brave) move. He knew he'd get time, which is really important. It was a huge job, and he had to win the league this season, but the three years at Rangers has done him the world of good as a manager and a coach.

It can turn on a dime though right? I thought Arteta was dead a month ago. He has no prior experience as the top guy. He's righted the ship.

Now I think Arteta's job might actually have been easier with high-upside kids like Saka and Smith-Rowe on the bench, who are hungry to get their shot - it's not like he could do worse that what he had out there.

Phil Foden has a lot more in his locker than I thought coming into this year. I figured he was out of position playing on the wing, just a Guardiola thing playing central midfielders everywhere, but his finishing and dribbling have both really popped the last few times I've watched City.

If Foden has gone down there, he would have earned a PK. There’s no benefit to fighting through.

No, not from the moment I remember reading the season preview where an Everton fan picked the 16 year old Rooney as his one to watch, through THAT city goal, to DC and DC. The "English players don't get credit," mindset, btw, goes at least as far back as Matt Le Tissier.

But please, explain soccer to me. Or better, explain how me pointing out the amusing irony of English fans thinking their players don't get credit while international fans think English players are overexposed equates to me knowing fuck all about the game.
Didn’t want to leave this out there—was just joking man. Certainly didn’t say you know fuck all about the game but sometimes tone doesn’t translate to text.

City have been all over Villa in an open match. Hard to believe City haven’t scored here it’s shaping into being a classic sucker punch. It’s been hard not to score some of these chances and that always comes back to haunt you

Not sure how that wasn't even VAR'd for offside? Rodri came from about 10 yards offside to take the ball off Mings

I don’t know what he said but it wasn’t said with enough emotion to warrant a red.

Also some sport we have got where you can be offside by a toenail when a freeze frame is taken but coming back from a massively offside position isn’t considered gaining an advantage

BT Sport in studio ex Prem ref Peter Walton reckons the City goal should have been ruled offside.
Maybe the clearest sign that it was the correct call then.

Gotta admire Cash’s befuddled anger at the very obvious handball.

Martinez has been phenomenal Arsenal is going to regret his departure

Don’t see how that can be anything but.

Of course, that was a legit handball. Not sure what Cash was doing there other than maybe Voguing.

You trolled better in the 2017-18 season. God you were good. Fresh, clean, tight. Great engine, could go 90 mins and the level never dropped.

I think it was the right call. Mings takes two touches (a chest then a foot) before Rodri takes it off his foot. Once he has possession, the next phase of play has begun and it doesn't matter if Rodri was offside previously. What is possession? I think a chest then a foot touch that is purposive has to constitute possession.

I’m on my second kid now it’s just not going to happen. That’s not a troll though Walton is a ninny
They (the Prem) just clarified the ruling and by the letter of the law it's a good goal cos Mings deliberately played the ball and the City player was deeemed not to have gained an advantage even though he's in an offside position.

Rio Ferdinand on pundit duties is adamant it's a terrible decision, surely that's enough to convince you. Say what you like about Walton, but Rio has no axe to grind here.

Edit: aside from all that - what the fuck was Mings doing in the first place?

It’s probably the technically correct call but it’s stupid. Rodri obviously gains an advantage just because he’s put Mings in a strange position. Simply another instance of a poorly written rule that tortures decency

It’s probably not wise for me to question the wisdom of handsome Scotty Parker and his villain turtleneck especially when he’s got a lead but Ruben Loftus Cheek at RM/RW is a strange choice to me

Pretty sure I'm the only one watching Real Madrid vs. CD Alcoyano in the Copa Del Rey, but Alcoyano just went a man down in the second half of extra time, then somehow found a goal to take the lead. Five more minutes.

The official Liverpool twitter account just shared that Matip & Tsmikas are back, which is excellent news.

Hopefully, Matip is straight back into the lineup today.

Given the need for league points, maybe put Tsmikas in against ManU on Sunday, give Robbo a rest.

Yesterday, Klopp said Jota is still a couple weeks away.

This is why I could never be a manager. I could not handle that if I were Dyche, and I could not handle that if I were Klopp.
