I can't believe the same guy who somehow got the umps to overturn 2 bad calls... that favored NY... in the postseason... in Yankee Stadium... in the peak era of Yankee propaganda... without video review... didn't even bother to challenge that call.

It’s kind of amazing this team (a) won its division and (b) pushed the Yankees to 5 games considering how terrible this offense is.
2nd best hitter in the league, arguably, plus the best closer, good relievers and starters, a good manager, usually good fundamentals, and 38 games against the tigers and royals

I think a true bullpen game, starting Hentges or Morgan and then going to Civale if it becomes a 2-3 run game may have been the way to go. Civale clearly suffered from 2 weeks of inactivity. Starting Bieber still would have been a dumb move… he's never pitched on 3 days rest, he's never pitched outside a regular routine (even the two relief appearances in his pro career were scheduled) and 17 of his starts this year were on 5 days rest. Even if it had worked, they'd be left with Civale and Plesac to start the first two against Houston, so what would be the point?

He certainly did. He also has struck out is almost every other at bat he's had, no?
Yeah but maybe you don't get just how bad a lot of the Yankee hitters are currently. For instance, Marwin Gonzalez is currently in the lineup and you and I have hit about as well as him the past few months.

Gonzalez definitely didn't hit 62 homers this year, tho.

Like I said earlier…he’s gonna hear a lot of this pretty soon.
A lot of lies? As Abbey already pointed out, Shawnbru's post is not even close to accurate. They spent their 3 best starters in the last 4 days. It was Civale or the bullpen today unless they had held back Plesac or Morris Sunday night.

Not going with the bullpen plan was not a good call. Use the arms you have.

Not challenging a clearly wrong play after incorrectly challenging every close play in the previous 4 games will certainly be questioned.

What do you think the chances are that Tito retires?

Use arms you have indeed

Should have been
Stefan for 2
Karinchak for 1-2
Hentges for 1-2
Morgan for 1-2
DLS for 7th
Clase for 8-9th
Bieber for 10-11 if necessary
McKenzie for 12+ if necessary

He said a month or two ago that he plans to be back next year, so I think it would take a more serious medical situation than he foresees to change that. He is having surgery in the off-season, but I don't recall what it is off the top of my head – I don't think it's expected to get in the way of anything for next season. I do believe that was his way of making a soft retirement announcement for after the 2023 season. I think Sandy Alomar is still the heir apparent (it would almost seem underhanded not to give him the job after he's turned down several opportunities to leave). If more medical issues come up for Tito during the 2023 season, they'd probably make the transition official in-season. Alomar managed most of the 2020 season.
