They've always seemed like real friends, props to Zo for this. I'll miss Gresh (during football season :D)

This must be tough for Gresh. As Chad Finn noted in his column, the show's ratings were incredible throughout this Patriots' run. It beat WEEI's midday show handedly throughout the years as well.

It's clear that Gresh's firing isn't performance-based. I'd be curious to know the backstory if it ever comes out.

Whether we liked the show or not, it dominated its time slot. There didn't seem to be a reason to do this. Again, something must've blown up behind the scenes in Gresh's contract negotiations. That's the only logical explanation, in my opinion.

Sounds like Gresh thinks he's worth more than 98.5 wanted to give him, they couldn't settle on the price he wanted and he's off to bigger and better things.

That's my take anyways.

I like Bertrand, as his informed opinion and reasoned tone tends to offset some of the hysterics from 2-6. I think F&M losing Bertrand hurts them more than whatever they have to gain by pairing him with Zo 10-2.

But you know when you listen to the radio and it just feels... comfortable? Like two buddies sitting out back on some lawn chairs knocking down some cans of natty light? Everyone has a couple of those guys in their group... Overly excitable, unabashed but sincere. Another who goes on at length, yet still concocts an eloquent combination of accurate information and bullshit. I think that chemistry is going to be hard to replace, because it was genuine.

Yes, they are doing it all show.  Kind of a celebration of what has gone on.  I like these guys and will miss their rapport but Beetle will provide better coverage 12 months a year.  But, from July to February they were the best at talking football.

I missed the opening segment...did Gresh talk about the behind-the-scenes, or his side of it?

Did not really get into specifics.  But he addressed that "this ain't a funeral" and it's a celebration of what the show has accomplished.  As NortheasternPJ mentioned, it sounds like he is moving on to a bigger platform.

The first caller didn't like GRESH apparently. Ended with YOU SUCK and Good Riddance.

I don't care how much you don't like the guy, Gresh isn't a dick like F&M are. If you don't like him fine, but calling up on his last show and saying he's brutal, sucks and glad he's gone is pretty shitty.

FWIW, i've met and or been in the same place as Gresh a handful of times and i can say, in those instances, he was a major dick

Also, to summarize the opening part that I listened to, Gresh basically said that only one person knows the truth of what's happened, and that person is him.  Said he was pissed about how it's been portrayed in the public and that he thinks it's unfair.  Decided instead of airing dirty laundry the better course of action is to take the high road (admitting that dirty laundry airing hurts future employment options)

I caught him coming out of the broadcast booth for the UMASS/UNH game at Gillette last year. I yelled "Gresh!" and he gave me a really great high-five. It's well established that the major dick's modus operandi is the firm handshake.

That sounded like CYA mode to me. Gresh seemed to pretty much say that there are all of these great opportunities out there from him to choose from, so it'll be interesting to see where he lands next. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the graveyard shift in some podunk town.

He did just take a veiled shot at Scott Cordischi's prostitution-related arrest, so at least that was fun. :D

What did he do?
A couple of the times were at restaurants / bars (once @ the Hooters in Warwick) after appearances for his show back when he was on the providence station. He was really rude to some people who were either trying to talk to him or get an autograph. "You need to get away from me" type language. Another time i was at a restaurant waiting for a table and he was rude to a hostess because he didn't want to wait. "I'm here all the time with my show!"
Sorta one step from the "Don't you know who I am?" type behavior.

And I can say that Tony Mazz is a really really nice guy in person and did some really cool things to help me that he didn't have to at all (granted this was before he was on F+M).

Mazz may be annoying on the radio but overall I can see him being a genuinely good guy.

A couple years ago I called in and ripped Mazz for something. He became furious and started yelling at me. Then he called me an obnoxious jerk or something like that. About five minutes later I got a text from the show saying something like "Tony hopes you didn't take the jerk remark the wrong way. Keep calling in". I have no idea if he told them to do that or not but I guess it was nice of him. Fwiw, I texted back that I appreciated it and I wasn't remotely offended. I can't stand him on radio but I've never heard a bad word about him off the air. Same with Felger.

I think this move has more to do with Bertrand than Gresh.  I suspect that WEEI was probably targeting Bertrand for his own show, and after getting passed over for Jones on nights, had no need to be loyal.  They basically made room for Bertrand at the expense of Gresh.

Like mostly everyone I'm glad he's gone. However I think he did a pretty good job exiting. He (appeared) to be graceful on his way out. Could've ended pretty badly

As I had posted elsewhere, I think Bertrand is bland and brings nothing new to the table.

Since 99% of my sports talk consumption is through podcasts, I can easily pick & choose which topic I'm going to listen to (and delete the rest). Gresh & Zo had by far and away the best local Patriots coverage, and I'd take that as a win over Bertrand and Gresh the non-football version.

Are you Gresh's mom or brother?  Not sure why the Beetle hate but keep on I guess.

Heard Gresh filling in for T&R today and he wasn't bad solo, granted it was mostly pop culture SNL type stuff, he didn't make me want to turn the dial.

I was listening this morning to him and Wallach talk about Revis and had to shut it off. Just unlistenable.

D&C just before the 7:00 hour today went off on Gresh for a few minutes.  From their "sources", they heard Gresh was pretty much a dick to everybody up and down the ladder at 98.5.  Where his attitude many not have been the MAIN variable that lead to his departure but was a factor.

No, PFW in progress is the podcast with the best local coverage.

FARMINGTON – A new sports talk show is coming to WTIC NewsTalk 1080 featuring Joe D’Ambrosio and Andy Gresh.

The show will debut Monday, April 27. It will be called “Joe D and Gresh” and will run on WTIC from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The show will feature D’Ambrosio and Gresh, who are described as a New York sports fan and a Boston sports fan respectively. They will talk about national, college and local sports topics.

“We are excited to begin this next chapter of afternoon drive on WTIC. Sports has always been a huge part of WTIC Radio and now we are dedicating time every afternoon for sports fans, regardless of where their loyalties lie, to come together and talk about their teams,” said WTIC radio Operations Manager Steve Salhany.

D’Ambrosio has been with WTIC for 23 years. Gresh was most recently with WBZ-FM in Boston.
