Monroe looked rusty in his first 10 minutes stint, but he also looked like someone who will be a real asset to the team. Has never practiced with them.

He hustled (2 steals), showed off his passing and rebounding skills, and while his shot was way off at the outset, he finished up with a nice 3 point play.

The one area that looked like an obvious (and expected) weakness was when he ended up switched out onto small perimeter guys. Watching him try to defend those plays gave me a real appreciation for Daniel Theis. I think there's a little bit of room for improvement there, though it will always be a weakness.

The Celtics played some freaky big lineups. The Monroe-Theis-Morris frontcourt got a lot of run, mostly with Brown at SG, but Tatum also got a couple of minutes there. Disappointingly, Rozier played the point in these big lineups - I think Brad missed a golden opportunity to go Point Al again!

Monroe gives the Celtics some much-needed size in the middle. I’m confident that Stevens will use him properly and he’ll certainly be needed this spring with potential matchups looming against guys like Valanciunas, Thompson, Whiteside, Gortat, etc. The matchup combinations with this roster are almost infinite.

I was happy with his hustle last night - first day in and all. If hem can improve on that effort at all Brad may be able to reduce Als minutes enough to keep him fresher for the playoffs.

Is this team playing more iso and pick and roll ball than they were earlier in the season? The offense doesn't seem as easy as it was.

I don't know the reason, but assists were very low. On topic, I was impressed with Monroe's passing. I think he'll fit in well offensively.

Was at game last night and Monroe looked more skilled than I remember him. He had a least a couple of moves that would have gone in except he was clearly rusty.

I was also impressed by his hustle as he went to the floor a couple of times and also got back on defense.

On a positive note for the 'Zards fans, his two missed FTs in the 4Q "earned" everyone free chick-fil-a.

Granted a small stretch against a bad team, but Monroe’s contributions have me feeling good about the bench depth during the playoffs. He does a bit of everything outside of defending.

Looked better last night and is finding his place on this team. I suspect will continue to improve.

I dunno. I'd like to see more than garbage time contributions out of Monroe. He "looks" like an awful fit with whatever lineup is out there and I'd be interested to see if the statheads have day-ta/da-ta (#gruden) that confirms that our defense appears as bad as the eyes tell me it does when he's on the floor. I mean, his affect on our defense "looks" like it as much of a negative impact as Isaiah in Cleveland.....to me anyway.

Does a bit of everything besides half the game. Hehe. I knew he was slow coming in but man hes slower than I thought. On the other hand watching him go to work down low is a blast from the past a thing of beautiousness.

Sample size being extremely small, but his DRtg is sitting at 98 with the Celtics. His career mark is 106, compared to 111 for IT4, though IT gets a bump for his offense.

I just like the idea of Stevens having another body to play the matchup game with--if he stinks, he won't get minutes so this is all upside, I think.

What I don't get is how he has such quick spin moves on offense, but on defense sometimes, he can be so slow it's like somebody hit him upside the head with a two-by-four. I'm having trouble squaring that circle.

The obvious answer is that he initiates his offense, but he has to react on defense. I don't know if that's the right answer, though.

In a more general sense, it's always fascinating to me that certain players can be so good at one thing and yet so bad an another when the skill sets seemingly should line up pretty well.

For example, great rebounding bigs who can't defend at all (i.e. Enes Kanter). You'd think someone with the size, instincts, and short-area quickness to do that well on the boards could translate at least decently to some aspects of defense... but sometimes it just doesn't.

Yes, this is it in a nutshell. His offense is proactive, he knows what he wants to do and can do it quickly. His defense is reactive, he is slow (for an NBA big) to process and react. Two completely different motor functions.

Monroe last night: 18 points, 6 boards, 2 blocks, +23 in 19 minutes. Meanwhile Semi and Theis (albeit hobbled) were DNP-CD. From my sofa he looks to be settling into the team sets pretty well. We have Toronto again at the end of the month; wonder if the dynamic will be changed at all.

Monroe has upped his stats to 9 and 6 with Boston. His per 36 numbers are great; 20 and 12 with 56 percent shooting from the field; after a slow start he has turned it around and looks like a contributor. I think with his defense he is still going to be matchup-dependent in the playoffs, but he has shown that he can do some things for this team, which is all you can ask for from a buyout guy.

The teams they might play in the 1st round are all pretty flawed in a variety of ways, and there should be a lot of minutes in which Monroe won't be exposed. If Kyrie is actually fully ready to go in 4 weeks, they be able to get pretty far, and Monroe in the 1st round will likely be a big part of it.

Yes, since the injuries have hit Monroe has really settled into a nice niche off our bench. He looks like a playoff rotation contributor now.

Monroe is great playing with the second unit for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, they can throw it down to him and let him create his offense against second tier guys. That's really good for that unit. Second, he's not being as exposed on defense playing against other team's second tier guys.

Great pickup for the Cs.

His C's advanced data is as follows:
17 games / 17.7 mpg / .576 TS% / .532 efg% / 12.4 ORB% / 24.5 DRB% / 18.8 TRB% / 16.1 AST% / 2.3 STL% / 3.9 BLK% / 18.5 TOV% / 25.7 USG% / 105 Otrg / 101 Dtrg.

When Monroe is off, he looks horrible. Last night in Phoenix, I had Shelden Williams flashbacks.

Hate him at $16 million, per, love him at $5 million.
