It's a brain hemorrhage, for those unaware.

The #RedSox announce hitting coach Greg Colbrunn suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, but believe he will have a ful/healthy recovery.

‏@PeteAbe
#RedSox say Colbrunn is expected to make a “good recovery.” He is hospitalized in Cleveland.

Jesus, you never want to hear something like that.  But, I will say that if you HAVE to get sick, Cleveland isn't a horrible place for that to happen.  The Cleveland Clinic is excellent.

Those type of things are scary. Good thing they caught it.

Sometimes these sort of things are written off as a bad headache or just dizziness, and become quite serious/deadly.

Wow, watching the team in Cleveland literally caused an aneurysm in his brain to burst.

Glad it sounds like he is going to be OK, but that is some scary stuff.

Maybe if he got hit in the head with one of the bunts, otherwise, probably not.  Elderly people can get it with a violent sneeze, but in younger people it usually takes a ruptured aneurysm or a good bump on the head, with the latter more common.

Very lucky. My wife had a close friend who was a neurosurgeon. He was at a conference and had an aneurysm. He knew what it was and sadly knew it was fatal as he called his colleague in from the room next door at his hotel. Had to fly family in to say goodbye at the hospital while he was on life support.

Hopefully Colbrunn recovers fully without further issues.

You make a good point. Although Minnesota has Mayo, Boston has many great hospitals, as does New York and the list goes on. Pretty much every major league city has great medical care facilities that deal with situations like this.

This was pretty cool to see.

We all talk quite a bit about how much money players earn. We don’t talk enough about how often they put their money to good use.

Case in point: After Red Sox hitting coach Greg Colbrunn was hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage last week, several players chipped in to charter a private jet for his wife and mother, who flew from their home in Charleston, S.C., to join Colbrunn in Cleveland.

The leaders of the effort, according to clubhouse sources, were second baseman Dustin Pedroia and pitchers John Lackey and Jon Lester.

It was also interesting to see who led the charge. Pedey and Lester sure, but Lackey?

Maybe time to rethink how I feel about him.

Yet, since Lackey got here, there has been numerous reports that Lackey is a great clubhouse guy and his teammates and coaches love him. Then throw in the fact that he's a World Series hero. Lastly, at this point, he's the guy that should inspire the most confidence of all the starters. In other words, there's still Lackey hate?

Not hate, just a feeling that he was never a guy who could handle the Boston environment and his behavior would reflect that. Maybe that's still true, but something like this gesture over-rides that kind of thinking.

I'm beginning to wonder if the RS should focus on extending him, but that's not for this thread.

Why would this surprise you? He's the guy that traveled with the team throughout the 2012 season, even as the season went to shit and he was rehabbing his elbow. His teammates have been widely reported to adore him. His personal life got ugly and that certainly didn't reflect well on him, but most reporting about baseball matters portray him as a stand up guy and a great teammate.

Just never seemed to be a guy who was happy to be here, but your other points are well taken.

I hope the RS find a way to extend him. I can't see him returning under his original deal.

"Good" news??? The mere fact that they're even talking about it just weeks after a brain hemorrhage is fucking spectacular news.
