Yup. And the bigger question is can he move on defense? We can’t afford a 7’3 Luka out there as tantalizing as it would be to add his offense.

Doesn't quite feel like Joe's style, but maybe. I think it's more likely he doesn't play at all, unless it's a close game and Tillman struggles, then they may try to grab a few minutes with KP to let Al rest in the 2nd half.
Yeah, if 9 guys foul out. Predictable language from Joe to once again utilize gamesmanship to his advantage.

A bit rough early but some quality minutes in the second half, very gutsy performance, and that jam on the feed from Jaylen was picture perfect
I honestly don't know how he played. He left it all out there! So damn impressed with him.
He upgraded the Al Horford rest periods from "Tillman and sleight-of-hand" to a legit threat on offense and at least some rim protection (if not his usual mobility) on defense. They hunted him a bit, but he held his own and was a net positive. Amazing for him to be out there.
Still only 28 years-old, which is crazy to think about. His skill set should age quite well but the body may not be up for it. The perfect 5 for the Jays and he’s basically a cheat code when healthy. Here’s to hoping they get a few more playoff runs out of him. Such a joy to watch and a seemingly good guy too.
He probably held back at the start just in case he had to available for another game.. then when the game was getting close to the end he figured he'd go for it because it's the last game of the season.

This was a big key tonight. He didn't have to be all-star adjacent KP. He just needed to spell Al and be better than Tillman or Tatum as the 5 and he was. That's all it took.
My wife said I wouldn't risk my career for one game tonight and I said I would. IDK if he was really risking his career but getting the title is forever. Even Ray Allen was welcomed back tonight. The title is everything and it also helps to be under contract for a couple more years.
He looked so terrible when he first came in that I thought the Celtics must have been at the end of their rope to even try using him. Combined with the fact that when they tried Tatum at the 5 for a short time Dallas went on a little dunkfest prompting Joe to quickly end that experiment, it seemed like all Dallas had to so was exploit the Celtics lack of a backup center who could play in this series. I'll leave it to people smarter than me to explain why Dallas went right at KP with success when he first came in but really not so much after that.

I think he's only under contract for next season. I'm sure his agent will be pushing for an extension, and I could make a strong case for it--he was such an asset this year and he's still only 28. But it's also worth considering his fragility and the fact that even if he decides to come back for another season, Al Horford is going to turn 39 next playoffs and can't be expected to play more than a sixth-man role at that age.
And then they went with the 2 bigs, once in each half, when Al came back out there. KP did look better the second time around last night, but I agree, it didn't look right. But it worked out ok, I guess
They did go after him. According to NBA.com, KP was the defender on 15 (!) shot attempts by DAL even though KP only played 16 minutes. DAL went 7-15 but that included 5-11 on 3Ps.
Do we think Al returns? Probably a topic for another thread but would imagine a retirement is a significant possibility.

Now, it's wholly possible that Horford told him and/or C's brass this while on a championship high and will reassess after the euphoria wears off, but until we hear differently he's still their sixth man.
They did go at him over and over, they just made all the wide open 3s he was giving up in the 1st quarter and missed them all in the 2nd half so it didn't seem like they were. He also made multiple nice plays at the rim in the 2nd half when they tried to drive on him
This injury/pending surgery will keep KP out of the Olympics. Does that qualify as a silver lining for the 24/25 Celts?
It would be nice to know what the general timetable is like for his return. Hoping by the all star break maybe?
Was actually thinking the same thing. I'm hoping DWhite don't have to play too many minutes for team US as well.
JT on the other hand, I don't mind since I want him to build more connection with other superstars in the league.

If he needs more time than that, the Celtics should give it to him. Horford, too.
What an odd injury. Hopefully the rehab and everything end up strengthening the area and he comes back better. As for his return, I'm sure they'll balance conditioning with injury risk and bring him back gradually, even if he's ready for the start of the season. The back up bigs (including maybe a rookie) are going to be playing a lot early, which in the end could be a positive thing.
Tough break for Team Latvia at the Olympics, but I'm sure he'll find other ways to be an ambassador for them.
