I hate this day. Tradition has it at the conclusion of the season, I post this poem that says it all:

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops."

The losing was definitely hard to watch, but hopefully we can look back on this in a few years & think of it as the necessary growing pains in a successful youth movement.  A lot of kids made a lot of strides this season.

The 2014 season was neither the best nor the worst of times. Now, summer is well and truly over, if indeed it ever arrived this year. The good news is that the segue of the seasons continues.

When lonely feelings chill
The meadows of your mind
Just think when winter comes
Can spring be far behind?

The hints at emergence of some of the kids gives me hope that there will be what feels like summer in 2015.

For the last couple of hours I've been wondering what's a better way to end the season; like this one where you know your team sucked and you suffered with them along the way but you've accepted it by the last day of the season, or to have it end in a heart breaking fashion like in 1978, 1986 or 2003 but to be able to look back in a few weeks and appreciate that your team was really good and that the ball didn't bounce your way in the randomness of a playoff game.

The latter .. It's the heartbreaks that make the winning so much sweeter.

Just imagine landing in Normandy and not losing a single man; marching through Bastogne with your whole company intact; raiding the Eagle's Nest without a single casualty.  Then, stabbing Hilter (Jeter) in the face with your bayonet wouldn't be half as much fun.
