Continuing a long-standing tradition, I give you "Green Fields of the Mind." It's safe to say we feel the same sentiment.

--A. Bartlettt Giamatti

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops".

Despite another last place finish, we should be proud of how the Red Sox played the last two months. They never eased up and they made us continue to watch. The future looks very bright but it sucks that we have to wait until April 4, 2016.

No matter the season, no matter the results, no matter how well or how poorly things end, the last game of the season is at best bittersweet, and at worst downright depressing. I always feel so lost without the games to keep me on schedule and tied to at least some sort of reality. Life is simply not the same without Red Sox Baseball.

I'll say this: I am fired up to see this team next year.

I've been a SoSH member since 2004 and I don't post very much because I don't get to see many games with the time difference here in Japan. I'm going to go counter-luckysox and say that I love this thread every year, only because it is such a beautiful tradition. I really think this team is going to do things in 2016. I also think, though Soxless, this postseason is going to be great to watch.

Just when I needed it most, I found SoSH.

Thanks BSL for this thread yet again. I needed it just now and there it was.

This thread hurts.

It hurts a little less when the Red Sox win the last game of the year, and it hurts a lot more when it surprises you.

This year, oddly, I'm so excited about next year that it's the normal sort of hurt, softened by what I hope will be a fabulous month of October baseball and a milder winter than last.

There's always next year.

I tuned into the game for only the last couple of innings yesterday as it was all I had time for.  I knew I had to make space for two things: Orsillo's goodbye and then to switch to the radio to hear Joe read the first part of this epic piece which so often moves me to tears when I hear it.

Pitchers and catchers report in 20 weeks.

Well 20 weeks doesn't sound so bad. I feel better this morning.
