I didn't know where else to put this, but Bruce Allen at BSM just posted a press release by "The Sports Hub" that says Andy Gresh is going to become a permanent host on the station.

He'll have a regular weekend show, and serve as the primary fill-in host. I guess similar to the role Felger had at EEI last year.

Don't know much about him, except he looks like and sounds like a big loudmouth. But hey, any weekend show is better than the horrible Jerry Trupiano show. Maybe they'll finally get rid of that.

He is borderline unbearable on the Pats pre-game. I can't fathom how he will carry a show. He really knows very little about sports. Then again that isn't really a prerequisite anymore is it.

His contract expired 12/31 on Mad Dog's station. Dog was frustrated that they couldn't work out terms, said he didn't want to lose him.

Gresh started at Mad Dog Radio in the evening slot, and about 4 months ago moved to mornings with a co-host. Rationale was that it's very hard to sustain an evening show alone (Ted Nation!), and the byplay with the morning guy and their interests in different sports balanced each other out.

Gresh is a boisterous sort and is generally irreverant. As a fill-in host I think he'll be tolerable, but as a 5-days-a-week guy he'll wear his welcome out fast (especially if solo). He's better than Mustard and Johnson, but that's certainly damning with faint praise.

Does anyone know anything about this guy beyond the fact he is fat and loud? Those things don't seem conducive to intelligent sports talk, but one never knows. Is he at all tolerable?

Yes, I thought he was more than tolerable on XM. I think he's mellowed slightly recently.

I will say this about 98.5 and EEI, particularly for us ex-pats the podcast features on their websites are really cool. Before I leave work each day, I download shows or interviews from that day to my Blackberry and play them on the drive home. If I close my eyes, it's almost like I'm stuck in traffic on 128.

Did you play the game? DID YOU PLAY THE GAME???

I DIDN'T THINK SO, SO WHY DON'T YOU JUST SHUT YOUR MOUTH ABOUT THE SUBJECT YOU OBVIOUSLY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT!.

Not sure why he didn't end up on The Big Show.

Like URI said, he played college ball on the O-Line at URI. He co-hosted a mid-day radio show with Zolak for the SCORE in Providence for a few years. I'll let you decide whether he or Zolak knows more about baseball. Co-host of the Pats pre and postgame radio show with the esteemed Tanguay and Zolak. He's made guest appearances on Comcast Sports Tonight for many years. Gresh also slimmed down noticeably once he moved to New York.

I really don't think he's very good at what he does, and he often comes off as shrill, loud and ill-informed. He also has a tendency to over-react to just about anything and immediately assumes the worst. The station having a swing-guy was probably necessary, it's just too bad that he's going to be a lot like co-hosts on the big show

Gresh is in for Tanguay and Zolak today and is doing hockey talk.

Now, I honestly appreciate how he seems to have taken an active interest in the game. It's evident that he's been watching (at least lately) and trying to learn the game. It's refreshing to see (well, hear) a guy that has no hockey background to speak of try to educate himself regarding a sport that his new employer broadcasts. And listening to him talk hockey is far from terrible.

But man, he has a ways to go. He'll take a call or read an email where someone makes some absolutely inane trade proposal and instead of shooting it down like any knowledgeable hockey fan would, he engages and sometimes agrees.

Regardless, I actually think he's been a pleasant surprise on TSH. I expected more "fat guy yelling" crap ala the Big Show and he's not that at all.

Yesterday on Comcast they showed her accident and Felger and Curran said it was because her she was looking for something in her purse. Unlike Gresh's comment, that is funny imo.

This is actually not the point you were making but listening to Gresh helps you understand Sheppard. He may be a bit of a blowhard but he is a passionate fan and actually tries to keep on top of things by doing his homework.

I'd actually be interested in hearing Sheppard as himself and not as a Big Show cartoon.

So I'd pretty much like to retract this. Maybe I caught him on a good day, but beyond this one time where I found him interesting, he's been godawful for all the reasons others have mentioned in this thread.

To parrot markford, he's got that "I cannot whisper" voice that is at max volume at all times. That's just not very easy to listen to in the morning.

Not to pile on, but, (ok I guess to pile on)...absolutely brutal. Literally the first second I hear his voice I get annoyed. And for the hour or so I've heard him all week I feel like he doesn't actually know 90% of what he is trying to talk about.

It's got to be about money, because Pete Shepard would be something actually worth listening to in a spot like this where their regular hosts are our for a week.

I think it was about timing. Pete was laid off on January 18th while Gresh was hired the first week of January once his contract had expired at the end of 09 with Mad Dog radio.

All Gresh wanted to do this morning was bang on Tiger Woods. The callers and texters kept telling him it was bad radio, especially with a C's trade, spring training and the Olympics to get into. He kept berating them on it - "Regis and Kelly are talking about Tiger right now - but you're right, nobody cares." I think the Tiger thing is made for a guy like Gresh - pure opinion, no sports knowledge necessary. He must have been much more comfortable in that zone, and got pissed when the callers wouldn't keep him there.

What an annoying dude.

No kidding. He sucks so bad he truly rivals Larry Johnson. He just doesn't pimp his faith the way Johnson does. It's stunning to me that he gets so much radio and TV time. What information does TSH and CSN have that leads them to believe people like him? They must have it because why else would they continue with this loser. He must come really cheap, like four hundred bucks a week. Pete Sheppard, I can't believe I'm saying this, would be ten times better.

Listening to Gresh is much worse than listening to Larry Johnson. His voice is so much uglier and more intrusive, and his tone is so much meaner and angrier. The sound of his voice might be the most unappealing thing I've ever heard, and I can't think of anyone on radio or tv who makes me want to change the station as immediately.

JMOH...what if I told you GREEESSSHHH is actually friends with Guy Fieri?

I heard him "talking" (more like yelling) about how he got to see how Guy's show is taped and everything back when he was working with Sirius.

Speaking of GREEESSSHHH yelling, I heard him screaming at a text message yesterday afternoon. Yes, he was screaming at a text message: "774!!!!! YEAH, 774, YOU NEED TO OPEN YOUR EARS CAUSE I DID NOT SAY THAT! I DIDN'T SAY THAT ABOUT THE SAFETY POSITION! SO 774, LISTEN BEFORE YOU TEXT!!!!"

Seriously, it was the worst attempt at "talk radio outrage" that I've ever heard in my life.

He comes off more as the exact opposite to me. Guy Fieri acts like he's best friends with everyone and he loves every single thing they feed him, Gresh comes off to me as the type who wouldn't be able to resist letting you know that there was too much salt in this and not enough pepper in that, or saying snotty things about the last diner at the next one.

This wouldn't surprise me at all. These two guys seem like that they would hang out at a bar and act like "real guys" (no pun) all day long. Using slang that was mainstream 10 years ago, wearing shades indoors, screaming about some really small infraction while watching a game (it shows that they're real fans) and commenting on every single chick that walked by.

GRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSH and Guy would be one of the more intriguing if not infuriating TV shows ever.

This is how the question went:

"NOMAR...WELCOME TO THE OPINION BUSINESS!!!!! AN OPINION IS THAT THE RED SOX NEVER WON WITH YOU, AND THEY WON RIGHT AFTER YOU WERE TRADED. THERE IS AN OPNION OUT THERE AMONG MANY RED SOX FANS THAT YOU ALWAYS LOST AND I USED TO THINK THAT TOO....I MEAN I'M JUST SAYING THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE THINK, NOMAR HAS NEVER WON HE ALWAYS LOST!!!!!"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the point of an interview to get a good answer out of the interviewee? In what universe did GREEESSSSHHHH think that calling Nomar a "loser" would generate a worthwhile response?

The point of an interview is to get a good answer, not "yell" statements at somebody just so you can yell about the statements you said the next day.

Again, I have no problem with some hard questions, but they were asked (yelled) in a really unprofessional manner.

Maybe it was the loudmouth's way of seeing if Nomar could take a ribbing from one of his "contemporaries" now that he's a media personality. Maybe it was to see if he was still thin-skinned...maybe GREEESHHHHH! was just being a dick.
