My favorite moment is at 6:40; watch how Pierce outthinks the whole Cavaliers team.

Pitino obviously ultimately sucked but that game was fun as hell and had me as a real believer.
We were like 3 rows from the court for that game (wife's friend worked for Sportschannel Chicago IIRC, whoever did the game for the champs). Atmosphere was pure giddy. Stupid giddy, like high fiving strangers and security giddy. Top 3 highlight of the Pitino era.

Early that season, I thought they were the funnest shitty team I'd ever seem. They'd be full-court pressing and diving for every loose ball with limitless enthusiasm while they were getting their collective ass handed to them pretty much every night. Good times.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this one yet:

The end of the 2nd OT had everything: Van Arsdale shot with 10 seconds left; Westphal stealing the inbounds setting up the shot that gives the Suns the lead with 5 seconds; Havlicek shot that appears to win it, except there's 1 second left; Celtics heading to the locker room; Boston Garden fan fighting with the official on the floor; Suns taking a deliberate technical to allow them to inbounds at half court; JoJo White hitting the technical; and Gar Heard hitting a shot right at the buzzer to send the game into the 3rd OT.

Those 1970's teams get overlooked sometimes, but they were quite the juggernaut in their own right at their peak.

Thanks. This was the first C’s championship I remember. Former C Westphal was all we could handle. But JoJo and Hondo came through!

I was lucky enough to snag tickets to G5 '76 Finals and it was no doubt the best, most insanely exciting and intense game I've ever seen.

i bought the tix before the series started thinking it was going to be the clinching 4th win and i would see my beloved Celts win the championship in person.

But the Suns were tougher than expected and my handicapping fell a little short of the mark, but all's well that ends well.

What's often forgotten is the Celts were killing the Suns and were up by 20+ in the 2nd qtr but the Suns didn't quit. That game had everything. It even stole my voice for about 2 days as I was so hoarse from screaming.

And in total agrement about the 70s team not getting the love they deserved as they were stuck between the Russell and Bird years. They probably would have won 3 titles if not for Havlicek getting mugged by the Knicks in the '73 ECF.

The 1981 ECF versus the 76ers was one of my favorite Celts remberences, as it might have been the best 7-gamer non-finals series I can remember.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/1981-nba-eastern-conference-finals-76ers-vs-celtics.html
Two great teams, (both won 62 games) that really didn't like each other, both stocked with HoF players, battling in close games (5 of the 7 games were 1 or 2 pts games) And G7 was a classic to settle a classic. It was a physical but not dirty war between two great teams.

And it securely cemented the sports-hate I had for the 76ers who's foundation was poured in the 60s.

Great stuff here. The Sizers series was probably my favorite ever - and in my memory, Gar Heard was 12 feet tall swishing a half-court turnaround...

Here's one I didn't get to see live. I was listening on a radio with iffy reception, all by myself on an island in a lake northeast of Toronto, standing - hopping - on one leg to keep the signal coming through the static...

Game 5 1976: My Dad was concerned I was going to that game since I had SATs early the next morning. I assured him I’d be home by about 10:30.

That 1981 series was epic. The late comeback in Game 5. Then on to Philly where they had lost something like 15 games in a row and were down by 17. And then the epic Game 7. Two things about that series: 1) there weren’t at that time all that many times that a team had come back from 3-1, and the most famous by far was Boston over Philly in 1968. 2) It was clearly the de facto finals since the two teams in the WCF were 40-42.

Lost in the championship seasons and even the epic series against Detroit the next round was the 4-3 Eastern Conference Semis against Milwaukee in 1987. Game 4 is a forgotten classic....I mean Games 5 & 7 against the Pistons that year were something else but good god:

Good call on Milt!

Here's highlights of an awesome 2OT Celtics win over the 1991 Bulls title team. Bird goes for 34, Reggie Lewis drops 25. MJ has an easy 37.

2 great teams throwing haymaker after haymaker.
LOL at Cliff Levingston checking and having to cover Bird. Even hobbled 1991 Bird knew that was an insult, and Bird takes Levingston apart down low.

Not a great moment but best place to ask i guess, I just remembered around 96 or so the first year they had female refs. There was Violet Palmer and another one Dee Kantner. Dee only lasted a year or so. Does anyone remember this? It had to have been a road game cause we didnt have cable so it was on 38 or whatever channel. It was 68? They were in a station like that after 38 around then. Tommy and Cooz. I wanna say a game in Vancouver. Kantner did the game and made lots of really bad calls. Tommy was letting her have it big time. I specifically remember him yelling “Go back to the kitchen Dee Kantnahhh!!!” & “ go back to dah girls league!!!” Etc.... if that popped up he be toast. Does anyone else remember that? Was like 96 or 97 around there. First year female refs

This reinforced what Wyc said last week about veteran players on championship teams. Posey, House, PJ Brown all made big plays in support of the star players, who were vets and HOFers.

If TT and Teague stay healthy, they’re going to be a big help, but the Celtics might still be one vet away.
