It looks like CC again stands for "Captain Crunch" - the big lefty has reported to Spring Training at close to his old weight, deadspin http://deadspin.com/cc-sabathia-gained-a-bunch-of-weight-on-purpose-1687422053 and others are reporting.

Yankees starter CC Sabathia (the epithet "Yankees ace" is probably long out-of-date, as he's coming off two very rough seasons) reported to camp at 305 pounds, about 30 pounds heaver than he was last spring. That's good, if only because he doesn't look like a stranger. But Sabathia believes his regained bulk should make him a better pitcher.

Maybe he bought into all the jokes about how the lost weight affected his fastball velocity.  Of course the more logical explanation for that would be the almost 3,000 innings he has thrown between the regular and post seasons during his career.  Not sure how being heavier will ALSO help the deteriorating knees, but it has the organization's blessing it seems:

Joe Girardi signed off on this bigger Sabathia, with the Yankees' doctor and trainers setting a target weight that's still below what he weighed in Cleveland, but one they expect will put less wear and tear on that knee.

Of course this is a fairly odd reversal on several levels - he was quoted last year giving the following rationale for the weight loss:

Swearing off Captain Crunch wasn’t the only factor in this year’s 40 lb. weight loss. CC says that a no carb diet and hard workout program helped him get “a little more toned and a lot more strong.” Sabathia was motivated by his family and Demetrius Davis’ heart attack to lose weight for health reasons

So I guess family, heart attacks and "health reasons" be damned - full speed ahead to (hypothetically) better fastball velocity!

More logical, sure, but there's nothing he can do to unpitch those 3000 innings.  Attributing the decline to the weight loss at least gives him the illusion of control.  Or something.

He looks like he ate Sandoval in that picture.

Regardless of his health at that weight, putting on that kind of weight in just one offseason has to be incredibly unhealthy.
