It seems very inconsistent to simultaneously say that someone is asymptomatic and that they have significant lung damage. Is this trying to have your cake and eat it too?
Not sure what to tell you... this is what we see sometimes. A lot of patients coming in for abdominal pain, neck pain, motor vehicle accidents, shoulder dislocations, etc with no respiratory symptoms. They get scanned, the lungs look ugly on CT, and it turns out they are COVID positive. No cough, no shortness of breath, (sometimes) no fever.

Usually in healthier younger patents with plenty of lung reserve. The extent of the long term damage is still of course unclear, but when the CT image should be black and there is a lot of white.... there is clearly inflammation, pus, blood, etc. filling up the lung tissue. That stuff is "damaging", at least in the short term for sure. And other pneumonias can cause long term damage too, I would be surprised if COVID is somehow much different.

Do you see low blood oxygen levels, or just ugly CT scans?
Edit: removed “shortness of breath” after taking a short “reading is fun” course.

Sounds like the shittiest cake ever. Maybe a cake that someone with covid had licked repeatedly?
Why not? The fatality rate for healthy adults under 50 is tiny. Treating camp like a measles party for kids would be smart.
Well, not sure if you're aware, but we actually have a highly effective measles vaccine so such parties are highly unnecessary and seem quite dangerous! Additionally, nice of you to volunteer others and, by extension, their families for this sort of thing. How many Covid parties have you attended?

Shortness of breath is a covid symptom, so they would not qualify as asymptomatic. Newer studies are showing some people who had no clue they had it until they were tested have stuff popping up on their scans. The actual long-term effects are difficult to predict for many.

It’s still not clear the extent but it definitely happens. This study from Boston tested all women admitted in labor and found that nearly half (45%) their total positives did not have coronavirus symptoms.

That's an interesting article (abstract, anyway), thanks for sharing

On the lighter side, I live in the town where Brady grew up, so I've always seen a lot of Pats stuff around. Yesterday an older guy at the grocery store saw my Sox hat and said "we used to root for the other team from there, but not anymore." I turned around and he had a new Bucs hat on. So the city of San Mateo is switching allegiances, as you'd expect.

Draeger's or Trag's?

I used to live in San Mateo but did not find it particularly Pats-friendly.

It seems to be a combination of some patients with no symptoms and normal oxygen levels and some patients with no symptoms and low oxygen levels. Uglier CTs = more likely low oxygen levels.

The term “happy hypoxia” has been thrown around a lot, people infected with Covid and don’t notice that their blood oxygen levels are actually quite low. I’m sure plenty of these patients never even go to an ER to get seen and recover.

Just FYI, this is mostly second and third hand info from talking to the ER docs and the body/chest radiologists in my group. I haven’t seen any of these patients in the ER and most days I’m doing orthopedic and spine imaging, though have seen “incidental” COVID on CTs and Xrays for unrelated indications. We’re still all sharing the interesting COVID cases amongst the group for interest and educational sake.

Brady continues to make it very easy not to miss him.

Brady continues to be the poster boy for "He might be an asshole, but he's our asshole." A lot of his shit, like the pseudoscience BS, <tantrums>"competitiveness"</tantrums>, etc, was easy to overlook when he was winning NEP championships, but now that he is in TB it's as easy to not overlook it.

I hate to call myself a hypocrite, but here I am thinking he's an entitled asshole.

It would be an interesting end to his career if the NFL never played this season and he left football after the season.

I watched this on a plane and Tom looked like a space alien. He was freshly botox’d and for the first time I looked at him like he was ugly.

Definitrly didn’t like it.
Botox hadn’t crossed my mind. I chalked it up to lighting and make up. Maybe he was just bloated from the beer he had just chugged (I think it was the same episode).

Tom will break that streak. When Arians dials up one of his "Hell with it, go deep and we'll see what happens" plays, Brady will scan the field, and if nothing develops he'll throw it into the stands. Arians QBs throw picks and take sacks. Brady does neither.

I think the TB defense is going to love playing with TB12-- no more facing first-and-ten from your own 30 three times a game.

You saps. If Tom Brady, perhaps our most durable athlete, is offering advice to our American Golden Boy we should be celebrating such a development. If Pulisic were to become as durable as Brady it would be pure ecstasy.

As long as Brady is still playing I can kind of put the marketing stuff aside and focus on his on-field performance (even if it’s not with the Patriots any more). But his shtick is going to get really old when he retires and starts focusing on this stuff full time.

He's a true believer and true believers proselytize. They do it because they think they have superior knowledge and it comes from a place of wanting to help. They have good intent but they are a pain in the ass.
I know nothing about this kind of stuff but he’s obviously been incredibly durable, even as his body has been twisted into pretzels at times. It makes all the sense in the world to me why he thinks that this stuff has helped him play all these years. And if he believes it, it makes perfect sense that he would pass it on to others.

Let’s put it this way: let’s say he actually DID find a secret to athletic longevity but chose not to share that info with anyone else. Would that make him more or less of a good person?

Then make the information free. Don't peddle cookbooks and concussion water. He's up there with Papi for me for guys that get a free pass, but he's pushing it a bit.

Edit: I think it's a leap to give him altruistic motivation.

What is the thesis on his whole schtick? Is it just stretch a lot and eat healthy, or is there something deeper there?
