Brady drinks beer?

I’m amazed he doesn’t take in any caffeine. I can’t imagine competing without it, much less studying film all night.

The beer thing was from a while back. No idea if he still enjoys one once in a while. I think there was an article with Peter King a few years back where he said he does have a beer or burger or whatever once in a while.

Re: caffeine, Brady goes to bed pretty early in general, again per interviews. Exception of course is night games.

There’s story out there about Pats stuck in Buffalo (I think) and Brady destroys folks in drinking contest.

"We played up at Buffalo and we couldn't fly back into Boston because the weather was so bad, so we had to stay the night in Rochester. We drove there, and we all decided we'd go out to dinner together. Tom being who he was, he usually couldn't come to a team event like that. We might be at Capital Grille and he is sneaking in the back door and then people realize he's there and he has to leave. But this was impromptu at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Rochester. The whole team is there. And it turns into a beer-chugging contest. You have linemen, Julian Edelman, they all think they are going to win. Then someone says, 'I heard Tom is really great at chugging a beer.' We don't usually get to experience him like this, but we finally coax him into doing it. He does it, and let me tell you, you couldn't have poured out the beer faster into a glass. It was unbelievable. And he slams the mug on the table and puts both fists in the air. He walks away with a look on his face that said, 'You really thought you were going to beat me on this?' The place went nuts."

Are we sure Brady's not related to Larry Joe?

What you won’t hear from Team Brady is that Brady largely checked out in 2018 after the loss to Pittsburgh and hated how the offense pivoted to a more run-based attack. ... But that ended in a Super Bowl title, so you don’t hear any public complaints about that season.
Bedard really flinging some shit on twitter about Brady. When someone in the comments challenged him, citing Brady's stats the Chargers and Chiefs games, Bedard responds with "I didn't say playoffs" I could see him being frustrated after the Steelers game. And he wasn't great the next week against Buffalo. But then he went on to have 3 monster games in a row and eventually won a Super Bowl. Frustrated? Maybe. Checked out? I highly doubt it.

Bedard is desperately trying to stay relevant, and he knows Patriots conspiracies are catnip to the aggregators. He'll get his clicks, but it really is pitiable.

Bedard fucking sucks, it's head-to-head with him and Volin on the Patriots writers I respect the least. A smarmy, know-it-all asshole that couldn't hold a candle to Reiss or Howe.

I’m sure there’s a tiny speck of truth to that Bedard report, but there’s also a reason BSJ is where it is and he had to take another job somewhere.

I would say there's some reason to at least wonder about the dynamics in 2018 given the offseason contract negotiations and rumors about Brady/McDaniels frustrations. But that only goes a little ways in my mind.

Ultimately, what we would need to know (and do not) is how different those dynamics were from what are likely various other ups and downs over time. I would be pretty surprised if there weren't a whole variety of things that happened over the 19 years and we know almost none of them. So that makes it hard to calibrate any one event or item that is reported---accurately or not.

This, to me has alwyas been a big part of the problem with the infamous Wickersham report. It is possible he was more or less right, but it is at least as likely he was taking something and blowing it way out of proportion because there was so little information to measure whatever kernel of reality he might have against. I don't doubt Bedard has some info from somewhere (he is not a Volin-like fabricator) but I do not come away from this one feeling like we have enough of the story to conclude much about anything

deep inside Guido territory
TAMPA — About 20 minutes after sunrise, just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, the luxury vehicles began rolling past the guarded entrance at Berkeley Preparatory School — a Tesla coupe followed by a Porsche and a Ford truck or two.

On the artificial turf football field, tucked away in a well-secluded enclave of the sprawling campus, Tom Brady and about eight of his Bucs teammates began a two-hour throwing session.

At times, like he did with receiver Mike Evans, Brady would walk through the route, showing players exactly where to make their cuts.

Brady’s arm looked live and he took advantage of the large collection of pass catchers to also get in some work on deep routes. Among those attending the practice were receiver Scotty Miller, tight ends Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard, quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Griffin, and running back Dare Ogunbowale.

This feels ominously like a Schilling-like path toward losing an awful lot of goodwill.
Really? We’ve always known the health/nutrition side of Brady was a bit nutty. We already had concussion water. The only thing that’s changed is he’s now on a different team.

He’s nothing like Schilling so far. Not even close.

Selling snake oil during a pandemic is as bad as anything Schilling has done.
Snake oil? Saying malaria pills will ward off the virus against all medical opinion is snake oil. Tell people to take his brand of natural supplements as opposed to the hundreds of other natural supplements is business. Poorly timed business, but no worse than companies selling you their masks or wanting you o buy their burgers through the "safe" drive-thru lane

The guy clearly describes them as “Immunity pills”. It’s pretty easy to infer what he’s talking about. Anyone hawking a product using that word right now is a gaping asshole.

Products like this can be found in any GNC or health store that exists. Jesus, this is a reach. I guess anyone selling Emergen-C is an asshole too.

It's easy to make someone seem like an asshole if you start with the premise that they're an asshole.

Often times I think Boston sports fans get a bad wrap when former athletes criticize them, but sometimes they are justified. "Fuck Tom Brady", really guys?

Yup. And TB is one of them. TB is an asshole for introducing a product that “boosts immunity” in the middle of a pandemic. It’s a matter of timing.
I don’t know. Boosting immune system. Antioxidants. Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Fish Oil.
Copper in wristbands and socks or whatever.

On and on and on. Anyone who doesn’t do their own research at this point is a willing participant or enjoys a nice placebo effect.

My outrage level is 0.5 out of 10.

edit- Gatorade is as bad as most of these things.

edit2: so screw Michael Jordan.

I liked Tom Brady much more when he was just a football player. I am not a fan of his business venture as it seems entirely phony.

I mean, we have known or suspected TB12 was a bit of a dbag for a while, right? I say this with all affection as I don't really care what these guys do off the field (within reason, Hernandez). And if people are dumb enough to buy Brady's immunity pills/Kardashain's beauty products/Trump as a presidential candidate, that is on the people. Not on the ones selling them a bill of goods.

So, timing means nothing to you?
There are hundreds, probably thousands, of products just like this that were on the market before corona and will be on the market after corona. So is there some moratorium about new ones now? It's not like it doesn't fit in with what he was already selling. If he had been selling sporting gear and then suddenly came out with an immune booster, I might feel different.

And your claim that using "immune" or "immunity" is obviously trying to trick people into thinking it's some kind of Covid cure isn't at all obvious, because how the hell else are you supposed to describe it? That's how all those types of products have always been described.

I don't use any of these things, but acting like they're not commonly used products with commonly used terms so you can crucify Brady feels like stretching based on already held notions.

Yes, plus, that stuff DOES boost immunity as a general matter, and there have been multiple studies at least suggesting stuff like Vitamin D, Vitamin C, zinc, etc. may have a benefit specifically with regard to the coronavirus. Put another way, if you gave me the options only of taking no supplements at all or taking Brady's thing, I'd take Brady's thing.

Now, obviously, I have no idea why anyone would pay for this over a basic multivitamin, but that's just marketing. The concussion water stuff was way, way worse.

Nobody specifically called you out but people are more likely to heap blame on him for stuff now that he wears a different color laundry. It'll start subtle and grow.

I think I kicked off a partial shitshow, and I apologize.

I want to be very clear about my comment, as a result: I am not comfortable with the timing of Brady’s announcement. Given Covid, it feels like any other celebrity being opportunistic in turning a buck on fame over science. That sucks for me.

My comparison to Schilling was even more vague and shitposty. It dives too deep into V&N territory to get into here, but sufficient it to say that we can turn on our local heroes if they go down certain paths. There was backlash when Brady posted his concussion juice, and this seems like a logical extension at the absolute worst time. This is Alex Jones-level peddling in my opinion, and that’s difficult for me to reconcile and ignore with a sports legend I otherwise admire.

OK. Not a fan of either. But over 20 years here to say that those give you “dbag vibes” seems a stretch. Dbag is more of a ongoing personality trait, those are poor choices.

I don’t think Brady is craven about this stuff. That is, I don’t think he’s trying to flat out profit from concussions or corona. He hasn’t been all about money his whole career, it’d be odd if he were stooping so low to backdoor millions now.

That said, the fact he believes any of this stuff is a bit wacky, but I really only care(d) about his football smarts.

Really, the timing is a good thing. If one person out there sees his ad and decides to start boosting his or her immune system by buying Brady's supplements, that's a good thing. Fuck, I want some myself now.

I'm a Brady guy but, Tampa Tom's marketing of magic pills that with a wink has an implied benefit for your immune system and to battling dangerous viruses in the midst of a health crisis, seems at best exploitive and snaky oily.
