This is disappointing, but not shocking. Tom's idol, Joe Montana, went to the Chiefs to prove that he could win outside of SF. Tom's friend, Peyton Manning, had a great second act in Denver. A guy who has always had a chip on his shoulder and something to prove had nothing left to prove in New England. He owes us as fans nothing, beyond the thank you and farewell that he has already issued. I wish him all the best in Tampa. He made a completely putrid offensive roster look competent for a decent chunk of last season. Our adjustment is going to be harsh.
Honestly, I'm more disappointed for my 8-year-old son than I am more myself. He took Mookie leaving fairly well, because I had all offseason to prep him for it. I had warned him that Brady might leave, but still thought it was more likely than not that he stayed. I hadn't had a chance to warn him that odds were dropping as the Patriots devoted cap space to other players in the past few days. Now, there is no Mookie, he doesn't have multiple regular life things that he enjoys that have been disrupted (school, family visits, etc.), and now there's no Brady.
On the plus side, at least this happened before Sunday Ticket renewed.
