Kind of numb but prepared myself for this as Bill isn't going to hamstring the team with a salary for TB just to sign him for sentimental reasons. Have to think Bill had a number and wouldn't move off it and he has a post Brady plan.

I'm done with football for a while. If TB12 isn't under center, I really don't give a fuck if it's Stidham, Dalton or Nick fucking Foles. I also would have given him a blank check because that's what you do for the person responsible for taking you from a joke to the greatest dynasty in history, so I view this far differently than the team did. I love Bill, but I don't show up to watch him coach - at least not in the way we watch players, obviously.

Wow. Fuck Tom Brady. A few extra million was all it took? Here's hoping that cliff hits you right in the face.
You're a clown.

Felger (I know) tweeted last night: quarterback #TomBrady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a 2 year, 62 million dollar deal. Brady will have full control over offensive play calling, as well as personal.

Wonder how close that is to *gulp* reality?
I assume he meant "personnel". But what does that mean? That Brady has full control over what players the Bucs have? So he's the GM there now too?

Really? Fuck Tom Brady?
Yes. Why is it ok to play for less money his whole career but now it's all about that might dollar? I mean, my fault for actually believing he was above such things, don't get me wrong. But this really tarnishes his story for me.

Just stunned. We all knew it was a possibility that he'd opt to leave, but to see it happen is a gut punch.

Is it weird for me to say that I'm looking forward right now to seeing him play in another uniform, because it will mean that football is back and society is somewhat returning to normal?

Last pass was the Logan Ryan pick-6. That’s going to annoy me.
Probably every other player in history would have retired on top after the SB win and we wouldn’t be sweating any of this.

But then if Tom Brady were any other player, he wouldn’t have been Tom Brady.

Aside from Ted Williams, I don't think anyone remembers how iconic players ended their careers on the field. As has been quoted in this thread, if things didn't end badly they wouldn't end at all.

Guy couldn't even get on the field his first year. Even Stitham managed that.

What an amazing story. It'd be one thing to celebrate the #1 overall pick like Peyton or Drew doing the hoped for, but it is beyond special how he got here. Thanks.

I love the Red Sox, love the Bruins, love the Celtics, but at the fiber of my being I'm a football guy. Always have been. Grew up in a football town, a football neighborhood, dreaming of winning high school football titles and going on to play in college.

Tom Brady has been the quarterback of the Patriots my whole adult life. He is my favorite athlete of all-time moreso than even David Ortiz, Nomar, etc. any Boston athlete in my lifetime.

I just can't believe that the Patriots are letting him play in another jersey. I can't believe I have to watch him in another jersey. This is akin to Jeter playing in another jersey besides the Yankees, etc.

This is the end of the Patriots dynasty. Back to mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

Kind of shocking he would take this step at this stage of his career, but I suppose it's hard to say what he has to prove staying in NE. Thank you Tom, incredible run!

Brady to TB would be exciting from a pure football standpoint. They have serious weapons on offense. It will be fun to watch how he does in such a situation. At this age though it's hard to say what to expect.

You are out of your mind. "He won us 6 Super Bowls being underpaid, why does he want to be treated better now?" is quite a take.

Sad but expected. Whatever he does in the next 2 seasons will just be a footnote--nobody thinks of Montana in a KC uniform. A great run and it went much longer than we as fans could ever have imagined.

Or it is time to realize the Pats won’t be the Pats without Brady. That is okay.
I know BB is also the GOAT, but I am doubtful he will have the Pats competing for anything other than 3rd place in the AFC East next year. I mean his first year here with Bledsoe was 5 wins. The second year was the beginning of the dynasty.
Sign me up for the rebuild.

I also don't really understand the "if we pay him, how do we fill the roster?" This is going to be a bad football team. Not top 3 pick bad, even worse, top 15 ish? I'd rather make the playoffs and get bounced every year until he retires and then rebuild. As it is now, we get the worst of both worlds. At least I'll save money this year. It is absurd that this was allowed to happen and it taints my view of the franchise in general. Is that fair? I don't know, but I also don't care. They won't get my money or my eyes on their product anymore.

Shit. Guess I’ll have to focus on my career and my family this fall. I was crushed when Orr left...this is a bit better due to being 53, not 8...and Brady had a mostly full and healthy career unlike Bobby. But it really stings.

Is your take that since they literally could not afford $25-$30M for Brady they shouldn't sign defensive guys?
I think it is more why pay for an aging (albeit still really good) safety to captain the secondary of a team that is looking like it won’t be in the playoffs.

Well, can official be done with the NFL now. After all the overblown scandals, I was just waiting for Brady to be done.

I knew the possibility existed and tried to prepare for it, but it still hurts. I will still root for him and would love to see him win another ring or 6. But this still fucking sucks.

We're onto the rebuild.

I'm oddly not too upset by this. The weeks and months of stories and rumors did soften the blow I guess. Nevertheless, it just feels like finishing the best book I ever read. The only other sports-related thing I'll ever experience is when Messi decides to hang it up for Barca.

When these guys are on your team, you know you had the best and most clutch player on the field. If there was even a sliver of a chance they could win, they'd find it and rip it away from their opponents mercilessly. TB is an assassin on the football field. His career is a goddamn fairy tale and it was a privilege to root for him. GOAT.
I remember watching the 4th quarter of the 2018 AFC championship game at KC and thinking "No way he does this again, right?"....of course he did and ripped the heart out of Chiefs fans (for one more year anyway). Even at the time, it kind of felt like his swan song. It's more obvious in retrospect of course. But you could never count the dude out.

I've heard people say that Stidham isn't the answer, but how do we know that? We didn't know what we had in Brady after the 2000-2001 season (his rookie year), so how do we know that Stidham can't be a very good NFL QB?

Honestly, I’m glad, and this is why I’m forever grateful to have Belichick and Kraft. It was time - Brady has been in clear decline and other teams want to pay him like he’s elite. The team does not have the cap space to give him enough support to win as a good, not great, QB, and so the right call has been made.

It’s been an honor, you all.

Now let’s go do it again.

So he played a good 10yrs below market value but because he finally decided he wanted closer to market value that tarnishes his story? Are you fucking kidding me. Not to mention we don't even know if NE offered him a contract at all at this point. They aren't exactly flush with cap space right now.

Brady probably realized that with the weapons he had in NE regardless of what he did it was going to appear he was hitting the cliff because Bill has shit the bed when it comes to the draft the last few seasons and now that is coming home to roost.

I am out if my mind as well, absolutely. This is a guiy punch. But tha'ts not what my take is. Part of what I loved about him was that he was willing to put salary aside for the game. And again, totally my fault for believing that. I actually feel a bit silly. But this shatters that illusion.
