How many shots like that do we see attempted that actually go in? 50:1? 100:1? You have to catch it perfectly, not have it take a deflection, put it on target... It might be one of the most difficult skills in the game and it requires a fair amount of luck to boot (no pun intended).
Bonus points if you can do it with your weak foot.

Always kills me when a dude hits a screamer and then the keeper gets up yelling at his defenders. Juts tip your cap to that one, man.
It’s like how keepers scream “away” at corners and crosses. Always annoyed me what the hell else did you think I was gonna do?

As a keeper, we're letting you know you don't have the time or the space to control the ball, just get it the hell clear.

Keepers making a call as the kicker's boot hits the ball are afraid of aerial duels.
My high school coach developed a scheme that I doubt would have worked at higher levels, but it was nice at the time. If I clobbered somebody on a corner or free kick early on, we'd change up the call. The standard "Keeper" became the "away." If a ball was borderline or in the area I might come get it, I'd make that call and hope it gave somebody pause. It was probably only a fraction of opponents that would be intimated by the memory of the earlier collision, but it likely bought my defenders a few unchallenged clearances over the course of the season. Everybody knew I hated the term "goalie" for my position, so naturally the call for me to take the ball became "Goalie!" Assholes.
And I'm sure by telling the forum this story, I'll see "goalie" all over the fucking place now.

I'm still trying to figure out if he was actually going for goal or just trying to flip it into a dangerous area.

I don't want to trash a U20 goalkeeper, but considering her positioning was fine, how did she not make that save?
I genuinely think the goal is too big for the women’s game. Women can strike a ball with the pace and accuracy to make many keepers irrelevant far too frequently. There simply arent enough women playing to get a pool of keepers that have the size and skills. The men have a hard enough time finding the bodies.
I get this and think it might be correct if the aim is to have the same balance of scoring and goalkeeping as the men's game, but on the other hand, I don't know if "too many cool looking long-range goals and too much scoring" is a problem that the womens' game should be trying very hard to correct.
Yeah, if we just accept that scoring may be easier at the top women's level than the top men's level (and is there any data to really back that up?) does it really matter if the game is different? If anything it could benefit the women's game by being different than the men's game.
Goalkeeper's union! I trained with some women that were 10x better than me in most situations but could be beaten from almost any range on shots headed just under the crossbar. If they added a foot to the height of the goal and maybe a foot or two in span, it would have had the same effect on me.
I am in full agreement that women and men play variants of the same ruleset and not the same game. If we look at it that way, then absolutely, there's no harm in it. On the other hand (har), I'd just like to see goalkeepers have a proportionally correct area to defend. Their job is simply harder.
