Funny thing is, I was talking with a Steelers fan yesterday, and his first words were "at least they don't cheat."

Of course this is another nothingburger, but the sainted Gints are doing the accusing, so...raise a pole and assemble the kindling, it's time for a burning!

IGL will conveniently be applied here.
That would be the absolute best. The League to come out with a statement: "Of course the balls were at 11 psi. It was 35 degrees. It's just science."

The dynamics here are interesting, because it involves Mara and the game was actually competitive. Now that Fox has reported it, it is hard to imagine a graceful way out for the league, other than Goodell prevailing on Mara to stand down or deny the story.

Well Roger we expect you to come out and after "careful" consideration take away Pittsburghs 1st and 4th round picks and fine them something around a million dollars since they were generally aware...

Ben should be ready to just accept a 4 game suspension.

In reality he's good friends with the Rooney family. I doubt anything happens.

Is there no way to do a spot check a few times a game, just to put this type of stuff to bed.

If this is a non-story(which it is) by the league given the fuhrer that was Deflategate that will tell me all I need to know about the owners' bias and jealousy towards Kraft and the Patriots.
If you intentionally used "fuhrer" and not "furor" that would be awesome.

Can any remind me of any public statements the Steelers made during the whole saga?

RG: We need less deflated balls.

Troy Vincent: Fewer.

RG: Don't call me that, I prefer Generalissimo.

I predict NFL will say that its measurements were in the normal range for the game conditions and sweep this under the rug.

Interesting choice point for Kraft---he certainly could raise an ugly public stink here, and probably should.

I'm guessing the Giants will lose a 1st round pick for tampering with footballs? They're not authorized to test balls during a game.

Clearly, those were two footballs left over from when the Steelers played the Patriots

Yes, what's the argument they can take the balls and do anything? It's all so preposterous.

Isn't it irrelevant whether the pre-game measurement was in compliance? The question is the measuremnet post-challenge.

This sounds to me like someone at the Giants got a hold of a couple of balls "deflated" by the cold, measured them on the sidelines, and went nuts when they were under the limit. They reported to the league, who checked the balls after they'd been indoors and had a chance to warm up, and the balls were in compliance.

I was fully expecting these kinds of shenanigans tomorrow night at Gillette given who's coming to town. Harbaugh must be scrambling now that the Giants have stolen his thunder.

Conspiracy me says Goodell called his buddy Mara and they scrambled to put this to bed.
As a fellow member of the FURG cabal, I agree.

Gotta love ESPN on this: http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/224169/how-the-nfl-ensures-footballs-are-properly-inflated-or-at-least-tries-to

Includes the line "According to the league, "officiating game ball procedures were followed and there were no chain of command issues." So...no 90 seconds in the bathroom, no 1st, 4th, 4 games, $1M etc., right?

So I can assume he's not familiar with those Steelers teams of the 1970's that won four super bowls thanks to better growth through chemistry then?

You don't have to be a conspiracy nut. That's exactly what happened. NFL is playing word games again. We've seen it happen countless times before. Glazer didn't just make this story up.

NFL correct in saying no FORMAL complaint was FILED, Giants tested balls & informed the NFL they were under legal limit. Giants confirmed

So the NFL was able to quickly say in a matter of minutes that the Giants' balls were fine. Why did it take months and months to determine that the Pats' balls were not fine?

I think we all know the answers to all the questions we've asked, just as we know that this will blow over in a matter of days without any real inquiries, penalties or long term consequences.

Why does the NFL allow teams to measure footballs without penalty especially when these teams then leak unsubstantiated shit to the media? Goodell was stupid not to penalize the Colts.

You must be new around here. Please don't apply any common sense to what the NFL does.
